I never said I didnt, in fact I strongly believe everything is created from something/someone. I just dont get why religion has caused people tostadt problems in the past and the present

people use religion for their selfishness, for example Muslim terrorist use Islam as bale and Islam forbids committing suicide, terrorism and killing others for no reason, these guys aren't following the teaching of the quran and the prophets (Jesus, Mohammed, Moses, Adam and Abraham etc)

It is very difficult to think of any organised human activity that could not be corrupted…The lesson is that anti-religious corruptions and religious corruptions are both possible. There is no magic system or belief, not even belief in liberal democracy, which can be guaranteed to prevent it.

That's the only way to change it.

Wat? :| By bringing in and creating more technology and shit so that people can turn them into weapons to fight wars? Why not just use the resources you already have for good purposes and for helping out people that are in need like in Africa and Asia. U_U

Wut? The most atheist countries in the world, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands and Denmark are the ones who are the ones who are recycling the most and have the best education in the world... All because of our technological advancement.

Yah, i'm not saying that you should just scrap all the technology and stuff that was recently created. As there is still benefit if it is used for a good purpose and in the right way(e.g. helping out people in Africa and Asia via food, education and proper sanitation systems). :yeah: Read above^

That's not true at all. I'm an atheist, but I wouldn't destroy the world at all. Infact, look at Scandinavia, the Netherlands and Germany. The most peacefull and advanced countries in the world, yet the highest atheist rates.

Yah, but they're preparing themselves for war, like every other European country as well as US, China, Iran, Israel and Russia. Countries like that are just war-mongering and how did they end up like that? It was through Modern Technological Advancement.

Yes humanity used the laws of religion (and many others) and shaped it when times change but that change came from critical thinking, not from God

There was a point when religion was important, but not anymore

So your thinking that people just randomly appear and randomly die. :| That people have no real purpose in this life and just do the shit they do for no such reason. That logic. U_U That's one of the most ****ed up things I've come across and guess where it comes from..... Atheists! The existence of God is clearly logical and everything created and happening is through him. hmm

Yes, that's a common thing now, taking statements from these "books" and using it to curse religon or anything similar. But why do you ignore the "good" statements? I never read the bible, nor any religious book. But I'm aware that there are parts in which "love everyone" is supported, am I wrong?

So, if those parts exist, why don't we support them? Nothing is perfect, so you can't expect those religions to be perfect either. But if there are good parts, good statements in it, and some people chose to follow mostly them, then what's the damage?

So, stop saying as if religions only make people hate each other, and only that, because that's false.
Yes there are good passages but there are a lot of bad ones as well, and actually it should be perfect because the holly books are supposed to be the word of God but in the end the laws of God are almost equal to the laws that already existed at that time, one example, the Commandments are almost equal to the Code of Hammurabi (a babylonion law code that already existed some time before Moises)

So in the end following the laws of Torah would make you a normal person from 4000 years ago...

No.

No, but you're most welcome to walk into sermon naked if you like.

Yeah dude! Go flop your d*ck around in front of everyone, those clothes-wearers don't know sh*t!

Don't remember saying you did it on purpose. But it is your fault either way.

Show up on time, show up in nice clothes. That's really all going to church requires.

It doesnt really need to be a requirement, and when was it stated its required? I dont see any bad reason as to how wearing sweatpants is wrong. So because I had to do something before coming makes it a fault? Yeah OK. You just admitted you are those kind of people who think coming in a little late and wearing casual clothes is wrong. When it really isnt.

Yes but in terms of applying that knowledge to finding out more about how humanity came to be and its origin that knowledge isnt used. When asked about it, they would base their answer around God without any other thought. Im just saying basing my existence on something I cant prove is a bit difficult, and that if we want true answers, we should find it ourselves instead of a book.

Yes, but that's not the only use that science has, right? You like the cool, stable, big buildings you live in? Well, you better thank those people I mentioned.
When people think about science, for some reason, all they can see is biology and the studies about the origins of life. But there's much, much more to it. There are countless researches and works that are just as useful as knowing how life came to be. So, don't take away it's credit.

Yes, you're correct, we should research. But it's not simply because a person is religious that they will use "God" to explain everything. Again, you're mistaking regular religious people with fanatics.
Besides, there are many atheists that just wait for other people to get an answer as well, and find other regular jobs.

So, it's not simply because they are religious that they are not researching.

***Do NOT start bashing on religions, this is a serious discussion so please do not start flame wars***

Religion has been around for a very long time. But does it truly bring peace? Many wars in the past were caused by religion itself, and even today people still hate other people because of who they follow. In fact I have even witnessed a religion talking trash about another multople times (I will not say which of course). Does religion cause hate the is beyond unecessary?

Also I also find that Religion causes many prejudices and uneeded hate. Such as the disliking towards homosexuals. Why do they dislike them? Is it because you are still following a book/teaching that was written ages ago? This is the present, stop following the past. I also find that when religious people say "never judge someone", they are being a hypocrite. I remember one time I came into my church in sweatpants and was about 10 Minutes late and everyone gave ugly looks. Why are you upset with me? Be grateful I even came

So I'll ask you this as well. Do you believe Religion is "An Excuse for Ignorance"?

The religious it self not the cause of the problem for what already happen as you state in your post. But it's start from the follower, I mean human.

There are human take their believe to the extreme level to the extent become extremist. Actually this kind of human is already going to far out from what their religious teaching. They thought what they doing is right but it's actually wrong. It contradict what inside the religious teaching tech them about something.

Thanks.

Wait, aren't you a Christian?

I am, yes.

All I'm saying is that showing up late and in sweat pants is going to come off as disrespectful/sloppy to regular church-goers. Which is true.

Yes, but they are not perfect, so? You do realize that, nowadays, noly fanatics blindly follow EVERYTHING in the their holly books, right?
Regular religious people just live their lives following some statements, or hell, nowadays, many don't even read the books, they just believe in the same god.

As I said, I don't see the damage here, nor a reason to insult/disrespect them.

1) There could have been a situation which prevented him from coming on time
2) Since when is wearing regular clothes disrespectful? Show me the Bible passage saying that, and i'll concede
3) It's none of their buisness if he comes a little late back it's his life, and they don't know what occured for him to be late in the first place.
4) It being disrespectful is opinionated.

But that way you aren't really Christain or Muslim or Jew, you're just a person who believes in God, you aren't really part of those religions

Wait, wearing clothes in public? (Because not doing so will get you charges) Or dressing nicely to church? It isn't a requirement, but it's common courtesy and shows respect.

I dont see any bad reason as to how wearing sweatpants is wrong.

Obviously. I don't really care how you see it, but know that maybe 2% of regular church-goers will agree with you. So you want to be that guy who dresses the complete opposite of everyone else? Be my guest, but don't complain about dirty looks when you consciously wore what you wore knowing full well how people see it.

So because I had to do something before coming makes it a fault? Yeah OK.

Yes, actually. Get your sh*t done some other day. If an emergency comes up, then fine, you have an excuse. Just show up next week on time and orderly.

You just admitted you are those kind of people who think coming in a little late and wearing casual clothes is wrong. When it really isnt.

In your mind it isn't wrong. Other people? They actually value things like timeliness and orderliness.

Yes I know there's other scientific jobs and thats good for them, but what i'm talking about are those that do indeed go to finding out our origin because thats where the majority of scientists are athiests. That's the side of science that questions religion.

True they are many athiests who sit back and do nothing but my point is they at least question their existence, they wonder how we came to be and as long as we have humans out there who at least ponder the thought that our origin isnt like religion dictates then humanity has hope.

Thought leads to action, if someone's not religious then there more likely to sit down and say "Hmmmm I wonder how we were really created" then they sit down, do their own little research, become interested, consider a career, and we have 1 more scientists added to the world who is pursuing the truth behind our existence. You dont necessarily need to have a career in a science field that pursues our origin, just at least ponder the thought that religion may not be behind our existence.

1) There could have been a situation which prevented him from coming on time

Then show up next week properly. Not that difficult.

2) Since when is wearing regular clothes disrespectful? Show me the Bible passage saying that, and i'll concede

It's not Bible passage, it's something called etiquette. If you disagree with that, then fine, be different. Don't dress like you care. But don't complain about other people raising an eyebrow.

3) It's none of their buisness if he comes a little late back it's his life, and they don't know what occured for him to be late in the first place.

Of course they don't, but they're still going to do it anyway. People have their perceptions and stereotypes, everyone has them. If you're going to show up in such a manner than expect to get looks.

4) It being disrespectful is opinionated.

It being disrespectful is quite common among church-goers.

Lol thank god I am not a Christian....

So contradictory.

How so? Because he did not enter the house of god dressed like everyone else or at the same time as everyone else?

I didn't see anywhere in the OP's post that suggests this is a common occurrence. You have no idea what just happened prior to him being late. For all you know the "matter" he had to take care of could have meant the difference between life and death.

Even so he still swallowed his pride and showed up to church that day underdressed when he could have just as easily not come at all. The OP is right. There is no set rules nor is it written in the bible that you need to show up in a pretty dress or a nice suit. These were implied by man not god.

You are giving an example of what this entire thread is about. You call him disrespectful because in your eyes, he didn't show up with others or dressed like others.

The fact that he still wanted and did go is in itself, an admirable trait. Remember,

"Let ye without sin caste the 1st stone"

Just please admit that you are one of those people who judge for no reason, it'll save time. Wearing Sweatpants to church isnt wrong, and was never stated that it was. Snobby relogious people just made that up to look down at others. You are basically helping me prove that Religion cause unecessary judgement. I dont need to do things some other time just for the church. If I have a college eaaay thats due that day so I can pass that class, Im doing the essay. Im not gonna miss an opportunity like that just to hear someting that is repeated over and over again every year.
