Any plan involving genocide is just instant FAIL.....He turned the only person he cared about evil and has now made him a target for the village he was supposed to save, and as we've seen tobi he didnt stop tobi from doing anything and he definitely didnt stop a war he kinda egged it on by helping tobi...if he were noble he wouldve died trying to take tobi out
I agree gj

Since you dont understand whats going on allow me to this say. You say any plan involving genocide is an instant fail, but you see that wasnt his plan but the elders. His plan was to die by sasuke's hands and with it for him to gain a new power strong enough to protect himself and revive the clan. That was his plan. Lets not confuse what the elders told him to do with what he intended to do. I however agree that he turned the only person he loved evil. but all that was to make sasuke; stronger for future events. If he didnt and instead allowed sasuke to fool around, he would be around the level of neji and that isnt good enough against the current high level ninja's. How can you say he didnt stop a war, clearly you arent reading the same manga as me. You say he couldve died trying to take out tobi?. First of all they had an agreement, secondly itachi being the type of person he is, knew his limits somewhat and decided that in his current state being his poor healthy if he does defeat tobi he wouldve died as well and that was never the plan. The plan was to die by sasuke's hands. He entrusted the killing of tobi to sasuke, not just due to him implanting amaterasu, but also allowing him to activate a new power.

meh, haven't debated in a while and am feeling kinda bored....let's see, how about this sasuke thing?

remember it is sasuke who makes naruto stronger, he is constantly competing with him, even getting stronger so he can bring sasuke back. no sasuke equals a less motivated and weaker naruto, who was able to save the village. not only that, but sasuke is only a "threat" to the village, he hasn't done anything yet, lol. oh yeah....kill a hokage that nobody trusted and had a corrupt way of doing things, not only that, but his plan was to keep naruto contained, in which naruto wouldn't have been able to use his strength to defend the village. next one please? xd

A/c to their responsibilities and capabilities, Itachi did more...
If Minato had to stop Uchihas from their coup' he could have done it rather easily even if all were ready to fight back but Itachi might not be able to do so because 1 MS vs 100 3T would be impossible IMO but is nothing when 10000 FTG vs 100 3T....
Stopping Kyuubi is near impossible for both of two, hence Minato did the job sacrificing himself but Itachi could not be able to seal it or maybe he could with his totsuka but could have slowed down Kyuubi by applying Amaterasu for 3rd to seal it somehow...

Hmm well if Minato hadnt stopped Kurama then the whole village couldve well been destroyed.

Then again who knows the extent to the Uchiha's coup was going to go?

They both kinda had the opposite effect though. Konoha was safe but Naruto was shunned by the community while Sasuke was embraced.

naruto is the savior or hero of konoha and because of minato that he sacrifice his own life just to save the village and to stop tobi from making big disaster. that's why until now minato is still a savior because of naruto.

Itachi killed his family and his whole clan as well as his relatives just for the village. Minato sacrificed him self. It is harder to kill your parents and clan then to sacrifice yourself

Both did a lot for their village. Minato saved the village and all its members from utter destruction. While Itachi saved the village from Civil War at the cost of killing his own clan and tarnishing his name. Also, in a way he protected Naruto from the Akatsuki.

But, I feel Minato's actions outweigh Itachi's. Especially considering the outcome of their actions. Not only Minato save the village from destruction, but his "heir" is the one saving the world now. He knew that then, and ensured Naruto's survival. But with Itachi on the other hand, he couldn't bring himself to kill Sasuke. And conversely, his family (Sasuke) is the very one trying to destroy what he worked to save.

Regardless, as great as what both of them did, I think it's clear Minato did more. I feel those saying Itachi did more are more empathetic towards the fact that he had to kill his clan. Could be fan preference bias or simply they truly believe Itachi did more. Regardless, I can see why many would choose Itachi. Either way, both men have gone down as Legendary Shinobi in my book.
