Obito was scared of uchiha itachi because he had nothing other than his one MS technique/wood/fire. The rinnegan eyes were with nagato. He didn't have control of the tailed demons or the demon statue. Whether he was master behind scene, that's a different story. He knew better not confront nagato because he needed nagato to complete his plan. With the limited power he had at his disposal, he was scared of uchiha itachi. Against uchiha itachi, he knew he would need all the power he can have but that would only cause problems to his plans.

One reason why uchiha itachi is so deadly, is his genjutsu/tsukuyomi/susanoo. I have yet to see a better user of tsukuyomi other than uchiha itachi. Every single opponent of uchiha itachi fell under his tsukuyomi.

Obito's genjutsu was powerful enough to control yagura, a perfect jinchuriki, which is considered impossible to do....Bee says this because to break out of genjutsu you need a partner, and the bijuu just smack them out of it. So if Obito was able to control yagura, then that means his genjutsu is on another level.

So the whole argument of Itachi's genjutsu being so deadly is thrown out the window because Obito's is just as deadly and Itachi can get caught in it as well.

Originally, uchiha itachi's shisui MS power was so that it can be used against sasuke but uchiha itachi's quick thinking allowed him to find a new purpose. He broke free from kabuto and stopped kabuto.

Obito was talking about the surprise amaterasu attack, not about a full on 1v1 fight....which means the best Itachi could do was try to do a sneak attack.

Rock Lee and Neji were called geniuses....guess that means they can beat Itachi then huh?

Just with rinnegan alone, Nagata was able to summon the demon statue (non uchiha body and not the original owner of the rinnegan) but he wasn't able to fully control it. Just one use of the demon statue suck the life out of him. Which is the main reason why he didn't use it against naruto.

Sasuke used it against killer bee. however, uchiha itachi's genjutsu is different. Uchiha itachi creates things and makes it seem as if the reality is not real.

No one can use kage bushins like naruto can, because he uses it on every single battle. He has mastered this technique. No one uses kumai like obito does because he uses this technique on every battle. Kakashi is getting better with his kumai (gifted) because he has been using it a lot so he found more applications to this technique.

Had itachi known obito's ability, he would have been dead. This means obito knew that level of capacity itachi's brain had. He knows he would have found a way to kill him even him using his technique.

In a battle, every thing is a surprise. You might be able to know every single ability your opponent has but there is no way you can tell in what way they are going to be used so everything attack becomes a surprise because of the variations. Even though, raikage (A), studied minato's ability, he wasn't able to top him. Simply because of the variations that can be used with one technique.

Neji is genius, in fact every one in naruto has one or two ways of being geniuses. However, this doesn't mean they can defeat an opponent like obito who is also a genius. I am not saying that uchiha itachi is the only genius or just because he is genius he is able to defeat anyone. In addition to his abilities, he is genius and his intelligence supersedes everyone but minato. Just re-read itachi's life and you will understand why his intelligence is greater. Obito as I recall, wasn't as genius as itachi was at his age. He was somewhat like naruto (clumpsy). He could have finished his plan long time ago but he didn't because his plans didn't work. Knowing people's story and manipulating them with it isn't exactly some thing genius. Nagato turned against him. Sasuke is turning against him.
