Religion is somewhat like bleach. How good the religion is depends on how the individual chooses to use it. If you use it as a cleaning item around the house, then the bleach is beneficial to you. Conversely, if you shove the same item down someone's throat, then you are a cold-blooded murderer. I view religion the same way. It's just another tool or item that we can choose to use to enhance our lives. On the proviso that people use their religion for their personal desires such as to satiate their need for "spirituality", or just as a tool to comfort them via the belief that there is a higher power who is there for them, then religion is perfectly fine. Religion only becomes problematic when people try and involve everyone else in their religion, by either looking down on "non-believers" and treating them differently, or by trying to proselytize them. Religion should remain a personal tool, and should be used for the betterment of the individual and the society, not as an excuse to look down on others. Most of what I said goes for atheists too, since it's also not good for an atheist to try and force his beliefs on religious people. Carry on guys. :bdpf:

OP: Kind of a dumb question as we don't believe in god so why would answer regarding him...however if I turn out to be wrong I wouldn't feel regret even if he is a real being I would never want to believe in something like him Lol nothing but an arrogant prick of a fictional character in my book. Basically religion clouds logical reasoning and human empathy. It drives an individual or whole population crazy.
Today religion is the major thing that keeps population divided and keeps large amount population stupid. The current middle east conflict is all about sunni vs shias.

As with all beliefs and ideologies, religion is part of human society. Unfortunately the tendency of Humans to try to force their views on others or use said views to encourage conflict using particularly religion which is important to a huge portion of the worlds population to achieve this causes religion to be viewed in a bad light by a number of people.

I agree with Conspirator, religious people should keep their religion as their own personal view no need to try to force it on another, this isn't to say one can't express their own beliefs to others in a friendly way(if they are interested), I don't believe there is anything wrong with that. This goes for what ever belief or ideology a person may have, whether they believe the earth sits on a bull or that man develops through conflict etc

Just follow it if you want and don't if you prefer not to, it's that simple. It affects people differently depending on many aspects including culture,education, interpretation etc...and so you cannot conclude its overall affect. Religion is like cars, give it to one type of human and they'll make use of it, give it to some others and they'll run someone over to murder, give it to some others and they'll crash due to not knowing how to drive.:yeah:
