He means the ideology that I posted which is why he used crime as an example. But yes they are two things you can't compare since one is a belief and the other is an act that the person does.
Yeah crime isnt exactly the best comparesing but i understand where he is coming from

How? I get what you're saying about my ideology but I just don't see crime as something comparable.

It's all about perspective. He views the religious scripts of religion to be bad which is why he compared as such. You can't expect an atheist to get what you're saying if they don't understand the text

religion is a joke. the only proof for god exists in a book. (which god is the real one anyways lol make up your minds) even spiderman is more realistic, he has comic books and 5 movies prooving he exists U_U

in my eyyes, people who believe in god are nothing more but 5year old kids still believing in santa

no offense though. if you wanna stay a kkid for the rest of your life go ahead^^

Maybe he did understand the scriptures if I recall correctly from older posts, he did say he used to be religious. Money (currency) would be a better example in my opinion since people can use it for good or bad and it can lead to killing such as assassinations. But that means we can't abandon currency for the blood on individuals.

At least you're honest but "Santa" is around a couple hundred years back whereas religion goes further than that.

so what? thre are like thousands of stories older than the bible, does being ancient make them real? in fact the far you go back the less strong is your argument, for way back then people were more superstitious and stupid and uneducated. the further in you go to the past the more times those ancient texts have been revised and rewritten and even been retold during generations....you didnt get my point. its not about a person named santa had existeed, but the fact that little kids believe he is real, flies with reindeers and gives presents to every kid on the entire planet in the same night.

How? I get what you're saying about my ideology but I just don't see crime as something comparable.
Metaphors, simile, syllogism, and analogies all compare things that are normally seen as nothing alike, especially by taking the reasoning used to make a conclusion about something and applying it to another concept.

I didn't even compare religion and crime. It was syllogism, in this case.

Religion has bad aspects.
Ignoring bad aspects make something good.
So ignoring the bad aspects of religion means it's good.

That was the baselines reasoning in the post made by the dude I originally quoted. So, I applied it to crime.

I just wanted to point out the flaw in that particular reasoning, not to point out flaws in religions.

First off, that's actually not true. I view the manipulation of religious texts as bad, but I think religious texts in themselves can do a lot of good. They can actually be morally educational for children, and even adults, when taken as metaphorical and allegorical. Don't be so presumptuous.

Secondly, I find it funny you still think that anyone who doesn't interpret religious texts the same as you don't understand it. A lot of atheists understand the bible well, they just interpreted it much differently than you did.

I've debated with him before I'm telling you he don't

Complex City thinks anyone who has reached a different conclusion from him on the Bible doesn't understand the Bible.

.... You said God was a prick, the same scriptures in the bible that is of God...

So if I interpret evolution in my own way despite the evidence for it, would my interpretation be ok if it's not what evolution is?

Well since I'm not a Christian, I don't know it either since the bible has many interpretations itself I guess. No offense Complex.

I have distaste for the characterization of God, yes. That doesn't mean I don't understand the Bible, that just means I feel differently about it than you do.

Except evolution isn't up to interpretation. Evolution is a precisely defined concept. You can't interpret it anymore than you can interpret the pythagorean theorem.

Helen Keller Riker strikes again :bdpf:

If I just told you that God lives through the scriptures and he is a prick, then how can you like something that God is? Just by the bold alone tells me of your ignorance of the bible. You still think gay marriage is ok'ed by God based off your interpretation of bible which I have showed you with concrete biblical evidence to be wrong.

Exactly my point the bible is not the only book in reference to Christianity just like there isn't just one piece of evidence for Evolution

This...doesn't make any sense...I said the bible can do good metaphorically and allegorically. As in, a fictional story with fictional characters, including God, that delivers a message...the messages in the Bible(such as not harming others, living in peace, not sacrificing your life for a chase of riches) can be beneficial.

I said the Bible creates a discrepancy, and that it's a contradiction in the scripture. I already linked you to 101 contradictions in the bible, showing it's fully possible for it to contain one more.

Exactly my point the bible is not the only book in reference to Christianity just like there isn't just one piece of evidence for Evolution
...Right?
