Mission Elements: Meet with a major faction representative (4)
Mission Summary: Meeting the the head and second in command of the Ashina Clan as well as the head of the Hirata Clan
The red fever had worsened in the Land of Fire, ever since Tiamat's departure civilian bodies have lined the streets of Keishi, the once bustling business center of Tanigakure. It had now been turned into a morgue or in lighter cases a quarantine zone. Sephiroth walked these streets during Madara's absence, naturally once the Kage was off to handle his own business responsibilities fell on Sephiorth. He normally doesn't frequent this section of the village but he was summoned by local residents about an on going riot taking place outside of the landmark's bank. Smoke filled the sky as Sephiroth approached the inner part of town and chants echoed in the alleyways.
THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING FOR US! THEY ARE STEALING OUR SUPPLIES, OUR FOOD AND WHAT DO THE ONES IN CHARGE DO? THEY DO NOTHING! DOWN WITH THE TEKIKAGE AND HIS PAWNS! WE'VE HAD ENOUGH!
As this was shouted, they lit local businesses aflame.
Sephiroth emerged from behind the crowd and in a calm tone addressed them. His voice calm. yet stern enough to strike the hearts of everyone around him.
Is that so? Who has been stealing from you? Sephiroth inquired. From what he understood, these people had not much left to steal. The appearance of the red fever decimated the work force, not much food was being produced and the same goes for the supplies.
Yea, It's so! You know damn well who has been stealing from us. And yet you've done nothing! This town runs on agriculture. It directly funds this marketplace but You wouldn't know that because you aren't even from here! Ever since you incorporated us into your... your JOKE of a village, you've done nothing for us!
Another from the crowd chimed in, a young woman who was clearly afflicted with an intense case of red fever.
T-the Ashina clan. The Ashina on the other side of town...they've ...they've had control of the fields for decades. And they are.. not giving us our half... *cough* *cough*
Those damn Ashina! I caught them breaking into our warehouse and stealing the few reserves of food we have left. These people on the street. Most of them aren't even dead due to the Red Fever! It's due to STARVATION and neglect. Us Hirata are suffering because of Ashina evil and your incompetence! added in an elderly woman. Mostly likely one of the Hirata's elders.
Sephiroth listened to their cries and pleas against the Ashina clan. They had a history of conflict with the Hirata clan. Contrary to their beliefs, he had been keeping an eye on the Ashina-Hirata conflict since they were assimilated into the village. While smaller, Ashina's influence not only controlled the agriculture fields around the marketplace, but they also had influence over surrounding landmarks. Their power ran deep even before Tani's formation. However, he responded in kind.
The crimes of the Ashina will not go unnoticed. However, your aggression is misplaced. We do not typically interfere with petty clan rivalries, but the destruction of the market center will not be tolerated. You out number the Ashina, whether you have supplies or not. Do what you will with that information. But seeing how bloodthirsty you all are. I will visit them myself. We have things to....discuss. Sephiroth turned his back to the crowd and began to make his way to confront the head of the Ashina.
About an hour later Sephiroth arrived at the outskirts of Keishi, the Ashina Estate. The Ashina have been out in these lands for ages, staying to themselves unless they had to do business. The architecture was vastly different, modeled after old shinto temples. As he approached the entrance, Sephiroth was greeted by a young man , most likely a servant or low ranking member of the Ashina. Sephiroth spoke
Take me to Isshin Ashina. We have business to discuss. It concerns the Hirata Clan. Upon hearing the words "Hirata Clan", the man's eyes darted towards the ground in disgust, reluctantly directing him to the inner sanctum of the Ashina estate. Isshin's office located on the fifth floor.
In there. The escort quickly left before closing the door behind Sephiroth. What he saw surprised him deeply, it was a bedridden Isshin, most likely due to the complications of the Red Fever. Sephiroth walked over and looked down on him.
The Hirata, you've been coordinating the theft of their supplies and leaving them to rot. But it looks like you aren't in much better condition....Ashina.
Sephi..roth. The Hirata... they..take up too much resources. Their clan- too big.. such a waste of...energy to save them. Isshin tried to sit up in his bed. We.. as Ashina. Have a duty... to maintain the power of this clan. Our influence stretches far. Why should...should we help those who oppose us where we have allies... all over Tanigakure?
The power that your clan has, only still exists because I allow it. The truth is, we have use for you and your family. You have access to the other clans across the village. A local governance if you will. But the question is... what use do we have for you in this state? You are weakened. What is stopping the Hirata from taking up what little arms they have and storming you? They have nothing to lose and everything to gain. What will you do, Isshin?
Isshin's silence was extremely telling. The Ashina themselves were weak and would likely lose a battle against the Hirata at this state.
I suggest you come to terms with them quickly. Because two things are inevitable. You continue to exacerbate the issue, and the Hirata will attack and when that happens the Ashina would inevitably fall. You can't outlast them.
Isshin finally spoke. I, Isshin Ashina, have to put the family first... I need.. to protect them. Tomorrow... I along with my send down my second in command and financial advisor will come *cough* to the marketplace. There, will try to make ... peace with the Hirata.
- Next Day -
The marketplace was in a worse state than it was before, smoldering craters were buildings once stood, the blood of men, women and children painted the streets. Chants were replaced with screams. The Ashina attacked overnight, to strike first against the Hirata clan. They thought it better to strike first to have a chance than to wait for the Hirata to make their move.
PEACE WAS NEVER AN OPTION, HIRATA. BE WIPED FROM THE EARTH! Genichiro Ashina, the grandson and second in command to Isshin, yelled. To ever think we would broker a peace treaty with you lowly dogs? Don't make me laugh. For the glory of Ashina!
The head of the Hirata clan fuming at the loss of so many of his people barked back, You waste of life! THE END OF THE ASHINA IS NIGH! Isshin didn't even have the guts to face me himself so he sent his bastard of a grandchild to do his dirty work for him. Ha!
Their two swords clashed as members of both their clans perished behind them. Senseless violence in the middle of a worldwide pandemic was a waste. Each physical interaction, every drop of blood shed would further propagate the Red Fever and lead to the destruction of both clans. It seemed Isshin didn't head Sephiroth's advice opting to eliminate his foe by force rather than make peace with them. Sephiroth watched as he approached the center of the battle, using chakra rods to disable their motions.
Is this your idea of peace, Ashina? I thought your grandfather and I had an understanding.
There was nothing to understand. Make peace? Foolishness. Red Fever or not. I'll die before I ever work with them!
Look, I guess there is something me and this thief can agree on!
Sephiroth just sighed and shot two chakra rods one for each man and impaled them in the back of their legs. Sending his chakra into them and stopping their movement.
Take a second to look around you. Your family is dying, your numbers are dwindling not just because of the virus but because of their petty feud. And more importantly... Sephiroth squatted down to the two men. You are putting this entire village in danger. Infighting is a sign of weakness and in these times you cannot afford to be seen as weak. Especially in my eyes. You will broker a deal and put this struggle behind you. or I will see to it myself that neither clan makes it out of this alive. This village was made to unite clans in the quest for power and now look at you.
Grabbing the both of them, Sephiroth brought them to Ashina Estate to speak with Isshin about a peace treaty.
