Jiraiya most certainly is not weak or underrated. He still remains one of the strongest ninja in the shinobi world & also you're saying "he didn't even master Sage mode" like thats an easy thing to do.

On the other hand, I do think that the only reason Itachi & Kisame high-tailed it out of there part in part 1 by coming face to face with him was completely the fact that his purpose there was NOT to run into Konoha and start trashing the village in an enormous battle, he simply went in, messed up Kakashi and sent them a warning message that he was still alive and to be feared. Also remember, Jiraiya's legend was most likely exaggerated (not that the toad sage didn't deserve his title) but Itachi knew little of him other than the grand amazing title of his.

Don't mess with Jiraiya. I'm no fanboy, but he definitely earned respect, just like Itachi.

I hate when everyone says Itachi said he couldn't win. He didn't want to fight. Him and Kisame would kill Jiraiya two on one.

Jiraiya is one of the best characters. Don't underestimate him though, but remember and think that Itachi and Kisame would beat him 2 on one, and the reason Itachi said he couldn't was because he didn't want a fight.

genjutsu won't work on jiraya....bcoz of sage mode...

Cant use sage mode while in Genjutsu. Your a sitting duck in genjutsu, otherwise naruto wouldve summoned a clone while he was in one.

You can't really use the fight against Orochimaru as a true example of Jiraiya's strength. Tsunade drugged Jiraiya and he wasn't fully in control of his chakra. It took him two tries to summon Gamabunta, he couldn't use Dark swamp or Ino Jitsu to their normal capacity. It's fair to have an argument, but your basis for it is unstable.

jiraya was pretty badass in combat but lyk most people said, its a two on one combo but dont also forget that j-man was a crazy cracker, he fought six demons(Nagato) and killed four. in a battle lyk that, chakra is going to be a problem for itachi if he's up against jiraiya. mostlikely going to be a stalemate and many parts of the part 1 story have holes in them wen some info is released in shippudenn.
