Re: UEFA Euro 2012 Official Thread - Discussion, Analysis, Predictions & All News!

i really doubt that since zidane is the win win solution for France since 1998,
the team that played in 2006 is one of the best that France ever have,

they did start poorly in the group stage but own the favorite Spain, beat Brazil which is the defending champion back then in the quarter final beat Portugal in a tight match, but sadly Italy in 2006 is just too much for them,

my point is without Zidane i don't see France regain their former glory, but there is still hope well hope is always there
The same thing was said when Platini played. He took France to new heights and had a big influence. A long came Zidane, so did he. Tomorrow someone else will come and fulfill the same job.

As far as Italy goes, well they played dirty with Zidane, as far as I know racially abused him and his family.

Re: UEFA Euro 2012 Official Thread - Discussion, Analysis, Predictions & All News!

that's because they have zidane which is the player who can change the game atmosphere.
Bingo!

Not denying that, but this team is more talented than the one that played spain in 06
Nope, it isn't. Sure, on paper, it's very talented but it needs more confidence and more experience. The Generation 87 [Benzema-Nasri-Ben Arfa-Menez] needs to gel even better. The young defense [Rami-Kosielny-Debeuchy] should also get better markings. M'Villa needs to be back in full form.

They also don't have a leader. Lots of egos (Ribery, Nasri, Ben Arfa, Evra, Diarra, Mexes ect...) but no leader. That's why Zidane makes a difference.

He was someone who made everyone collaborate as team (despite egos) with his pedigree influence and charisma only. Then, of course, his talents and skills are heavenly blessed. The best !!!

If everything goes well against Spain, then even if they lose afterwards, it will spark promise for the team later on. It's a make or break situation today. if they defeat a major team in this Euro, they'll gain that necessary experience to be more serious contenders in Brazil 2014.

The result will define if their defeat/fight was a negative/positive effect. If they win they will come out saying how it made them stronger, but a loss will be another blame game. French media will be all over this, and Spain may face the same thing, Barca/Madrid topic will be brought back.
Completely agree. What sucks is that I'll be watching it on Canal +; that's why I didn't watch any of the TV comments. I'd be sure to hear biased commentary today...Mute button might turn helpful if Spain is leading 2+ goals. :p

Influence-wise, I think Zidane had a better impact. Perhaps, it's due to his playmaker position...

But I do agree for both your points.

Re: UEFA Euro 2012 Official Thread - Discussion, Analysis, Predictions & All News!

The Escorp's HT Analysis

Spain 1-0 France

- France had a very defensive lineup. They started in a Madrid approach against Barca (minus Messi/CR7) - that is; man-marking Xavi and Iniesta and pressing high. And of course, packed in 9-10 players in defense when dominated...

- It worked relatively well but despite the more packed defenders, France still got weakness in their wings. Alba completely dropped Debuchy and tipped a perfect cross for Xabi Alonso for the opener. It's the 100th match of Alonso for La Roja.

- I said in my pre-match analysis that after Spain's leading (yeah, I knew they will take the lead xd), France's future will hand between extreme positive and extreme negative.

- Surprisingly, they seemed worried about their defense's plight and Cabaye dropped his marking on Iniesta and Malouda also dropped his marking on Xavi. Spain seemed to control the match then.

- France reacted on a good Cabaye freekick though and a corner that had potential but alas, Casillas remain the boss!

- As expected, Spain are superior but France still got a mere hope; given that they conceded a goal only on a big defensive mistake of theirs. Their attacks are too basic though; and they need to step up...

- Benzema and Ribery are in great shape as they are the only two attacking threats on paper. They are trying to live to that hype; though outnumbered and not helped by their teammates' slow play.

- Is it me or did Benzema tried a freekick in "la Ronaldo" style at 25th mark...? He missed it completely though xd

- And Arbeloa is having problems to manage Ribery. Ribery's shirt can testify that xd

- Silva/Fabregas didn't brought much offensive threats. Just as it was the case against Italy; where mostly they just helped in possession play.

- The 4 midfielders of Spain are holding it very well and even better when the man-marking done by Cabaye & Malouda was dropped after goal.

Re: UEFA Euro 2012 Official Thread - Discussion, Analysis, Predictions & All News!

France were beaten well, but i blame the manager. Im not usually the type to blame the manager because i usually say at the end of the day its the players who are on the pitch, but i blame Blanc, a very stupid strategy.

He completely abandoned france's style of play which is to keep possession, the moment he tried to play defensive and switched formation, he admitted inferiority and to an extent defeat even before the game started.

How can you play one of the best teams in the word, with a new formation and strategy, youve never played before?. Also how that left over chelsea midfielder malouda started is beyond me. Infact how he was picked is beyond me. How blanc decide to play 2 right backs. The right back who played in the group stages should have kept his position. How nasri, menez and diarra didnt start is beyond me and at the same time benzema. He has been pampered so much that he can perform badly and he would still be picked. He imo has been the most piss poor player in the tournament and should not have started or should have started then subbed because he was poor.

The whole performance was ridiculous. We didnt fight at all. In the second half we saw abit of france and their possession play. If blanc had enough balls from the beginning and let france play the way they normally play, we wouldve troubled them. The 2 people who shouldnt have started caused the goal, malouda and that other right back

That was one boring match if you ask me. :/
Spain, as always, controlled the midfield which didn't allow France to make any proper attacks. And in my opinion benching Nasri was maybe the biggest mistake from Blanc, because this way they were basically left with only one wing and were easily predictable.

The Escorp's FT Analysis

Spain 2-0 France

- Spain: The calm force! I think that resumes well this match.

- Pedro made a good entry and provoked a penalty that Alonso converted too end minimal suspense. A nice brace as a gift for his 100th match. Who said, football isn't poetic?

- France came in with more offensive intent but the play was still too slow and incoherent. Only one good chance which was a header by Debauchy over the bar.

- Spain dropped their possession play as they seemed sure to contain a France who just couldn't be innovative enough.

- Torres and Pedro came in instead of Fabregas and Silva to bring some depth in Spain's counters. Given how solid Spain's team is, I wonder why they even put Fab and Silva when they were well superior in this match anyways.

- This match wasn't a physically demanding one from Spain but I keep thinking that it might end up as a factor since the 2 hardest test are coming from them. Portugal and if possible, a final to make history.

- France's side definitely didn't make any big impression. Sure, they tried with offensive subs like Menez, Giroud and Nasri but insufficient.

- Benzema completely lost his force and juice in second-half. He tried well in first half but just fell apart in second. Ribery kept trying to bring France on his shoulders but couldn't. Les Bleus clearly without a leader since Zidane's departure. That was a screaming truth today.

- I'm still awaiting for a real test for Spain though. Portugal and France's teamplay is not much apart but Portugal got a CR7 in an absolute flamboyance. And his form is proving to inspire his teammates too. Surely, Portugal will pose more of a threat to Spain's dominance.

- @ReLax - I said to you (when you were lamenting on Spain's defense) that Spain defense may be bad but that's also the case for France and Holland. Given Holland's lackluster display and the glaring mistakes of France against a Spain who didn't tried to nail them, show indeed that their defense are not as worrying.

If you thought that France will play their patient possession football that's based on patience and slow development and without one-touch football, then you were dreaming.

When you usually play in an inferior possession style than that your opponent, it's far form unwise to change your tactic. I said it before and I said it again, it's useless to criticize a team's defensive lineup when they play against Barca/Spain. Tell me how many teams defeated Barca/Spain in big matches by playing offensively?

Spain were just superior. You may bitch about all Blanc's decision - you still won't have won today.

Though I never like Malouda, he did a better performance than any of the subs - which include Nasri and Menez. I never saw a fire or rebellion despite the more offensive approach and it's then that you realize that it's even hopeless when you're creating plays to attack. History proves that you beat Barca/Spain by defending well. Ironic or not, it's like that.

Though, the choice of players by Blanc was audacious, his defensive lineup wasn't surprising. He knew that his team was weak in defense. He knew that he needs to reinforce it to have a chance against Spain. They still did bad mistakes and paid it heavily. End of story. Back to Clairefontaine!

That was one boring match if you ask me. :/

I was bored, I'll admit it. When I make such in-depth analysis, it's mainly because I was bored enough and got time to analyze.

They were predictable during the whole match anyways. None of the subs brought variety and any kind of impact. They are just not enough strong to beat Spain. I think that was glaring in this match.

Not necessarily offensively, but sticking to your usual playing style. Playing a different formation/style youve never played before will affect you more than if you stick to you normal style of play

Spain were just superior. You may bitch about all Blanc's decision - you still won't have won today.
Spain were superior and ive already said that france didnt show up. If we stuck to our style of play who knows what might happen or are you trying to play god now, what do you mean by you still wont have won?

Well done spain, but fracne handed them the game even before it started. When we played them in 06, the style and play was never changed. It was more or less the same formation/same people who started in the group stages

Nah, but when he confuses his footballing brain with fortune telling you know there is something wrong.

Anyway im not annoyed that we lost. Im annoyed at how we approached the game and lost without giving a fight. We lost even before the game started with the whole formation and strategic play

You just kept high hopes that they'll play their usual style. I was sure that Blanc will pull a defensive tactic.

I'm not playing to God. They won't have won because they lack teamplay and solidarity. Madrid's defensive approach had fiery into it, Chelsea's defensive approach had heroic solidarity in it and Italy's defensive approach was cohesive.

Next time, Blanc makes a tactic - new/old or offensive/defensive - he should rather ensure that the team has a soul. What I'm saying, it's not tactics or lineups that Blanc must ensure primordially. He should rather make sure that the team works well together and don't wander on the field for 90 minutes. No leader since Zidane's departure and all so evident today also.

That's what I'm saying. In 2006, they can stick to whatever style as long as they had a leader who himself was inspirational and regrouped the whole team. France's team was more promising this year but their group just can't stop falling apart.

The all-so-hyped rebellion of Sweden's afterclash or the will of revenge of Knysna all turned out to be a dull outcome. Blanc put on a defensive tactic. At the very least, the players should have put more heart in what they were doing.

So, I still maintain it that they would still have lost today despite any lineup. I agree with you that they lost the match beforehand though cause they simply didn't learned from their Sweden's mistakes and didn't find any teamwork.

Escorp vs Blaze... This match seems to be more interesting than that of Spain vs France U_U
It's not a clash. He want to take out some frustration after his team's dull performance and I'm having my usual football dose. So, I'm just moving on...

The Gats' FT Analysis

Spain 2 - 0 France

- That shit was boring.
lmao, this is the perfect analysis.

@Blaze, I understand everything you said, the fact is Blanc realised/thought if they played the way they do, they would have stood no chance, against a team who does things better than them.

Regardless, he should have just gone with their usual play as you said, Spain were far from impressive, so if France played the way they know, that might have been enough to see them through, but most likely not, Spain are doing what they need to, and I believe they will continue to do so and take the cup.

Fact remains, France should have beaten Sweden and they wouldn't have been in this position. People kept bringing up the point that France have never lost to Spain in a competitive match, that meant F*ck all!
