The inner arguments are real but it's not like there's a definite fission among the group. It's just one fiery implosion that occurred after the Sweden match.
Reportedly, Ben Arfa clashed with Blanc verbally while Nasri and Benzema also said certain things to each other that well...better stay confidential. I personally think that it might turn disastrous but can also be a very good thing.
Let's analyze: They were on an unbeaten 23-match record. Their once egoistic players and broken youth started gelling well. They were in favorite position to end up first in Group D. However, their defense were showing worrying signs with Mexes continuously out of form and their offensive plays were good but stereotypical. Despite that, they were seeing "la Vie en rose" since they never paid any of their weaknesses until...Sweden.
That defeat bought them back to Earth IMO. It was uninvited, surprising and yet a good thing that they got a warning that they are not so strong. So, start concentrating harder on their matches. Obviously, such a sudden shock left immediate consequence and hence the aftermath and the inside "fight".
But as I said, it might lead to positive effects. If they did walk out with 7 points on top of Group D and started thinking that they might pose considerable threats to Spain, they could have been crushed. And that could have lead to irreversible effects. The Sweden defeat is a alarm that told them to wake up and that their glorious form was just a dream. They are still are a team who were humiliated in 2008 and 2010; so start busting your ass off before you are crushed.
Now, we should also see the negative aspects like they are broken by this defeat against Sweden. And when Spain will lead, they might see their South African demons haunting them back. And then, it will turn to a massacre.
Mexes is suspended and perhaps, it's a blessing in disguise as he was the weakest defender in Les Bleus. The dynamic duo of Kosielny-Rami may earn their stripes for good if they succeed in maintaining Spain at bay. Another thing is that their patient offensive construction won't really work against Spain; given the meager amount of possession France will have. They'll be forced to innovate a lot during their offensive moves; things they've barely done in Group Stages.
Now, bad morale or not - Spain are favorite but if France understood their flaws in their previous defeat, then they might pose certain threats. All-in-all, it's just lots of odds stacked against France while they were flying high a week ago. It's up to them to show that they can rise from the ground once again. And what better way than to aim for the highest bird - Spain?
I'm also intrigued to see both teams' lineups. France might spring a surprise depending on what occurred after Sweden's match and Spain's key players - Iniesta, Xavi, Silva and Xabi - seem really fatigued in the last 20-25 minutes of Croatia match. Will Del Bosque take a minim amount of risk like Germany or will he stick to his players even if it's their 4th match in 14 days-lapse and no turnovers has been done yet...?
