My money on the Portuguese for this quarter-final match up.
My money on the Portuguese for this quarter-final match up.
The match seems like it's going to get uglyLate I know, but match prediction (still 0-0 after 12 min) for the quarter final match between Czech and Portugal... 3-1 to Portugal, Ronaldo hattrick![]()
A bit more lucky and Ronaldo would have scored two alreadyThe match seems like it's going to get ugly
Good sum up as always, Professor in football Institution, Escorpiius Scorp.HT 0-0 between Portugal and Czech.
- The Czech did a very good 20 minutes. Some nice offensive intent and instant pressure whenever they lost the ball.
- Afterwards, Portuguese got back little by little in the match but the Czech are extremely dedicated defensively and are defending at 10-11 players at mostly every action. They are also keeping the pressure very high. Fatigue definitely will interfere at a moment for them. The later, the better for them though.
- Ronaldo is being man-marked very strictly. It's minimum of 2 players whenever he gets near the box and at times, it extended to 3-5 players. They clearly are fearing him after his display against Netherlands.
- By such, he's coming a lot into midfield to accelerate his team's play.
- CR7 got 2 chances. He tried a bicycle kick which went off-target and at the 45th minute, he did a fantastic solo try - Controlled a cross with his chest, did an inverse sombrero and shot past Cech but it hit the post. Would've been the Goal of Euro if it gone in IMO.
If Portugal keep their cool and concentration, then they'll find the key with patience.
Not really. He's still getting plenty of room. If Portugal wins it will mainly be due to poor Ronaldo marking either goal by him, or assist. He's being one man marked at time, and than theres those times were they just forget about him, Ie: Offside goal if the forward let it go seemed Ronaldo was on side and would have put it in, while the defender marking him did it poorly. There is more than one occasion Ronaldo was badly marked and given space, at times in difficult position, but still was given and can prove to be costly.- Ronaldo is being man-marked very strictly. come on man, that goal deserves a lot of credit. and ronaldo already deserved at least 3 goals^^^
Ronaldo goal = poor marking and a lot of space.
I'm not against the goal. All I said was he was given a lot of space, the goal and those others occasion proved it.come on man, that goal deserves a lot of credit. and ronaldo already deserved at least 3 goals
i hope we get france. i want payback for euro 2000I'm not against the goal. All I said was he was given a lot of space, the goal and those others occasion proved it.
Anyways Portugal thru to Semi, now they will await for the winner between Spain/France.
Well the defender couldn't mark Ronaldo at the 16 yard line, because that was were he came running from at the cross, and if he had, Almeida would have had even more space in the box.^^^

Well, the Czech kept preaching about how they were going to play tough defence on CR, but I didn't see it. He was given a ton of space on occasion. He was still in the PK box before the cross came in and ran around the defender and headed it in, which was poorly defended.Well the defender couldn't mark Ronaldo at the 16 yard line, because that was were he came running from at the cross, and if he had, Almeida would have had even more space in the box.
I'd agree that his marking decreased in the second-half but my analysis was for 1st half and sincerely, he was marked really tight in that half. Not really. He's still getting plenty of room. Agreed, but still, no Kompany, Silva, Terry, Puyol, Ramos in the Czech defense. And they did manage to hold him off at times, but it still not good enough if they want to play the next round for sure.Well, the Czech kept preaching about how they were going to play tough defence on CR, but I didn't see it. A person who scored 60 goals this season, including a fantastic performance VS Netherlands shouldn't have been given the space he was.
I don't really need to add more as we always seem to share the same views on thingsI'd agree that his marking decreased in the second-half but my analysis was for 1st half and sincerely, he was marked really tight in that half.
And the less-tight marking didn't surprise me in second-half as I did predict that Czech won't be able to maintain their 1st period's flamboyance. They sunk in 2nd half and barely had more than 5 minutes of possession spell.
And there's another reason why he's marking went from 2-3 players to 1. The central midfielders - Veloso, Mereiles and Moutinho - got more offensive in the second half and this gave more space to Cristiano.
And gotta hand lots of credit to CR7 too. If we analyze all offensive players in this Euro, he gotta be the Best Player in the last 2 matches hands down.
He's also very unlucky. Apart from shots on-target and off-target, he's surrealistically touching lots of posts. it's 4-5 posts that prevent him from scoring since Euro began. He would have already ended Top Scorer by far if he was more lucky.
I really liked his matches today - dedicated and very hardworking. He knows his responsibility as Captain and is showing the example to all his teammates. Lots of shots, more altruist with his passes, better freekicks, scoring goals, helping the teamplay in midfield and doing amazing amount of sprint just to create minimal space. He's gave his all in the last 2 matches against Netherlands and Czech. He certainly isn't flopping in National team; even with much less skillful teammates than in United/Madrid.
Portugal are also pretty consistent in National Competitions now. Semi-Final is now a consistent stage for them and Ronaldo is the major cause today. Let's see if they can finally pull that next step which they always miss against France/Spain.
You don't need those defenders. We've seen many national teams/clubs perform good defence without top class defenders it just takes focus, and the biggest threat on the pitch (Ronaldo) wasn't being marked enough.Agreed, but still, no Kompany, Silva, Terry, Puyol, Ramos in the Czech defense. But, yeah, Ronaldo has hit the posts 4 times in this Euro Championship, more times than any other National teams! Sweden is closest with 3 post shots, while Holland had 2.
