Re: UEFA Euro 2012 Official Thread - Discussion, Analysis, Predictions & All News!

This is football, we will see some deserving teams succeed and some not. I feel what you mean I guess I'm more happy to see Spain make it at the end.

Well, thats hard, but at the end they both are in, if Spain had lost they'd be eliminated and if drawn Italy would question it, all tho I think they would have succeed on GA (most likely if score was 0-0 VS Spain for Croatia). I don't think we saw a single match go without a goal, so its a plus to see.

Agreed. People have posted the rule, but lack of knowledge to someone and fact their team gets beaten will never understand.

Well seems Spain VS France

and England VS Italy.

I like facing France TBH, they may still beat us and pose a threat, but we get to evade England defence tactic. Italy maybe the best match up both nations looking for their loss glory.

At least Sweden left with style lol France first loss out of 22/23? games.

Sweden 2-0 France

England 1-0 Ukraine
Spain will like facing France.

France's defence finally showed its weakness which was clear in today's match against Sweden. As I said, it really seemed problematic and that sure was proven. Now, defending against a team who'll hog 75% of the ball will be hard for them. Still, Spain's defense is no fortress but Spain will be big big favorite.

England did an applied match; though with its controversy. Ukraine scored a goal that barely crossed the line but it wasn't given to them. Sure, it was hard to guess in live action but oh well...Like every month, I'll address Mr. Platini and say it to him:

"Your Ballon D'Or rating is bullshit. Your idea of having a 5th referee is useless and showed its incompetency again today. So, f***ing hell, introduce video replaying in football.

Moving on, England defended his usual self. Parker and Co. deviated lots of ball while Joe Hart did a good match. Rooney returned and wasn't that good but he scored.

Apart from lacking competition, Rooney hasn't adapted itself in initiating counters. And given England's tactic now, he'll need to do that quick. Knowing him well, he likes to have players on wings during counters (Welbeck, Milner didn't do that often) or have a rapid passer along his side to combine (but there's no vivacious play-maker in England). So, all-in-all, he wasn't in the best of his form and combine with a system he's not used in United (with Valencia/Nani/Young ect...more on wings), he couldn't develop fully. I hope it gets better when Chamberlain/Walcott will play instead of Milner. He had the striker instinct to score the crucial goal though - goal that enables England to not play against Spain.

Italy will be tricky. But very interesting; especially since one is renowned for its defensive play and the other is being famed for it; ever since Chelsea did it. So yeah, it will be similar opposition clashing like Spain with France. All depends on who will try to keep possession in England-Italy; I'm think it'll be Italy who'll take the initiative given their approach against Spain. England's defense may resist though and can do it. Fully behind them and glad they even ended 1st of their group.

Re: UEFA Euro 2012 Official Thread - Discussion, Analysis, Predictions & All News!

Actually im with france and tbh im not scared of spain. I actually find it pathetic when people/teams admit inferiority/defeat even before a game has started. If you plan on winning this tournament you cannot be hiding/fearing teams.

Spains way of playing would suit france alot because sweden adopted the same strategy as england in the first game. The same strategy that italy play, so im actually happy that france play spain than italy
Actually I dont expect( like many others) England to go further than the quarter-finals. Throughout this tournament I've been keeping low expectations and not entirely bothered about England's chances of succes. My brain says Germany but heart obviously lies with England.

As for Spain vs France you can be sure to expect France somewhat parking the bus as well with Spain holding the majority of the posession. France will only be looking for quick breaks and counter attacking football.

Re: UEFA Euro 2012 Official Thread - Discussion, Analysis, Predictions & All News!

Portugal and Germany win 2-1 each.

- 2 goals, 2 posts and a good number of chances. Was a pretty great match from him. Nearly did an assists to Nani; who shot it onto Stekelenburg. Lots of run too and obviously was more lethal today since he dropped less into midfield and remain on wings and in the box only.

- Really glad for Portugal.

- Netherlands wasn't even 1/4 level of the team they were in 2010. Sure, it's the same rich squad but too many things are missing in their play. It's not flowing at all.

-And I'm not being critical with the '1/4 level' statement. Their defense are poor, 2 world-class strikers like RVP and Huntellar got only 2 chances combined in a whole match, their midfield are slacking in defensive tasks, the team play is not fluid, the pass are really slow. Really Van Marwick needs to remedy many things. 0 points is disastrous for WC Vice-Champion and it screams pathetic.

- Congrats to Germany for being the only team to grab 9 points in this Euro and hats off for doing it in the Group of Death.

- Denmark did a good Euro. Nothing to be ashamed of. Just unlucky to be in this group of death.

- I would have love if Portugal ended first to face-off Greece but never mind. Both Germany and Portugal are huge favorites though for QFs. The Semis will be the first real test for both of them but obviously, they need not to underestimate Czech or Greece.
Haha i agree, just a shame they couldn't hold the last ten minutes against Portugal when they got back at 2-2. I'm danish BTW

Listen to your heart :D

France will park a bus but their windows are made of tissue paper. Where I resides most teams favor England; followed by France. While I like France, I'd love to shut certain person's mouth, so yeah, I hope Spain trashes them.

I'd love Portugal v/s Spain and England v/s Germany for Semi-final.

I have the italians as slight favourites because they are better defensively and offensively than england, but the thing about italy is that they dont like pace and people like young, welbeck and walcott could cause problems, but the formation that the italians have adopted is demonic with rossi playing as a sweeper xd

I have the Spanish as slight favourites, as for france packing the bus i dont think so. That just isnt how we play. I can see us having quiet a bit of possession. France has what it takes to beat spain, but spain are slight favourites

I heard SaF wants Blanc to take over United after his departure

Is that how it is? Winner from Portugal faces winner from Spain? And same as Germany/England?

Re: UEFA Euro 2012 Official Thread - Discussion, Analysis, Predictions & All News!

British but i have my french ties. I was supporting barca/bayern to beat chelsea because i hate teams packing a ****ing double decker bus

As i said spain are more suited for us than italy. Sweden proved to us that when teams pack the bus and believe me the swedes packed the bus and were very rough. Identical to italy's style of play. Id take my chances with spain who actually play football than pack the bus. Also france are the few teams who can challenge spain in terms of possession but also quality in the starting 11 and on the bench.

Italy vs england would be one of the boring games, i can see it already. Both teams very cagey and cautious. Both would most likely use counter attacking and tbh i wouldnt be surprised if the game goes to penalties
It will be a good one tho many teams trying to challenge Spain offensively have failed, I do expect Spain midfield to push France into defence despite them not wanting too they can take possession, but that be also a challenge. I hope to see a explosive game from both.

Most likely it may go to ET/PK, but one may end up scoring off counter, they need one than drop back which both will due.

Spain will like facing France.

France's defence finally showed its weakness which was clear in today's match against Sweden. As I said, it really seemed problematic and that sure was proven. I've already justified the Ballon D'or, but the video reply we've already agreed upon, but even than expect players to swarm ref to get it check every foul, which is why they are preventing it, or stalling for now.

England jus doesn't have courage to attack which is there downfall, I mean defence will only get them so far, but without a strong offence approach they will struggle. They've been weak at that point.

Gerrard is very influential for them tho.

i agree the Germans seem to adjust to whatever situation they are in either it be losing a game by a goal, or lacking the ability to penetrate opponents defense and so on, they seem to find a way to make it work. (Substitutions, switching from Ariel passes to regular tip-tap passing) but the likes of spain are not to be underestimated even though they play boring foot ball they have been able to get the job done (even during the world Cup). Same thing was said about Barcelona and yet they disappointed countless of haters by defeating Madrid on several occasions in the past few years. Even the strongest of teams have fallen prey to this tactic.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. You know, Spain plays a game of passes but that's a strategy. And I, personally have nothing against it. It's not that boring, it's just matter of concentration, following the ball with your eyes. Haha.
As for France and England, I see them less favorites but who knows, it's football, no?
I see Germany a "beautiful" team. And I do hope they win. Yes, I do. For the only reason because I see them deserving it more than other teams. Beside everything, the "Hell" group they were in and all the good teams they did awesome job and became the only team to get 9 complete points from all the EURO 2012.
But then again, we can't be sure. It may happen like in the finals of Champions League. : P

One thing that all should know is to never underestimate Italy. Those guys have the needed spirit. And they always barely get out of the groups phase. But after that, in eleminations part they are all different. Fighting till the end and making lots of surprises. Like they won World Cup in 2006. Yeah, they were in a better situation back then but meh, they're not bad even now.

Is that how it is? Winner from Portugal faces winner from Spain? And same as Germany/England?
I think I heard on the sport news that it goes like that.

Schweinsteiger believes Barcelona and Spain are the ideal example for Germany, and all of football. At the end its your opinion. Germany have recently tried playing a lot like Spain/Barcelona except they aren't too much in the possession game yet, but offensively they play well, eve VS Spain.

Yeah, it's possible. If we were to make a Shortlist of managers who could "replace" him, I'd say O'Neil or Moyes. Renowned ones like Pep & Mou will somewhere be on it; courtesy of buzzes. And ex-United players like Blanc, Solskjaer or perhaps Giggs will be somewhere.

Yeah, and I have a Tournament Map link in the Main Post :p

I've already justified the Ballon D'or, but the video reply we've already agreed upon, but even than expect players to swarm ref to get it check every foul, which is why they are preventing it, or stalling for now.

I still need to reply on Ballon D'Or but I maintain my opinions and it's as this guy : "We might as well have Sara Carbonero standing there in his place; we would get the same results!"

England players just doesn't have the right chemistry yet to play offensive football. Even their counters are not so deadly. Their key players like Rooney, Gerrard, Parker and Hart have the merit to fight till the end though and as long as they keep instilling that 'Never Say Die' attitude, England will keep the hope of creating an upset.

Now, if they learn how to make use of their wingers properly and Rooney get cleansed of his ring rust, then they might have even better chance. Personally, if England wants to keep that single hope of clinching that Euro, then these are the 2 major points they'll need to improve against Italy and future teams if they were to pass.

Spain boring?

Spain are not boring. They've just became predictable like Barca. A whole team know they will make possession play since the fixture is announced. So, that team also will replicate a similar thing to counter the tactic - either extremely high pressing with defensive zonal marking (Madrid) or pack a defense if you lack ability to attack and clinch to dear life. (Chelsea)

Though, their Croatia performance was a tad disappointing :p
