This post marks the beginning of my mission using these storyboard elements:
Investigate the history of a landmark ( 3 )
Cutsom: Provide medical attention to two or more people ( 3 )
Summary: I had an NPC ask my bio to investigate into the recent disappearance of a hunting party in this area.
Sado felt the chill in the air and noticed the dark, dreary and almost dead atmosphere around the forest. The snow blotted out the sun in places causing dark spots all throughout the forest, this was just what he could see from the outside looking in. He quickly scanned the tree line for any signs of recent foot traffic as he listened to Trunks speak to him. He paused briefly as he noticed two sets of tracks heading deeper into the forest. One seemed to have a longer gait like someone had rushed about in a hurried manner. Sado took several steps toward the tracks in turn creating a set of his own tracks in the snow. Sado nodded toward the tracks as Trunks spoke to him.
Creepy, the people these hunters we're trying to feed must have been bad off to make them come here for the hunt. That kind of desperation could have led them to follow any sign of life any amount of distance, and judging by how much fauna is here, that literally could be any direction. I think we have our work cut out for us here, Sado. What's our first move?
Sado was able to get a better look at the tracks as he approached noticing that the two lead inward deep into the forest. He took a deep breath in through the nose as he got a deep whiff of-... ash and dust. Something had been burnt recently. Sado waved his right hand at Trunks signaling him to follow and to remain somewhat quiet as he didn't know what was here. The scent wasn't like that of a small campfire or even that of a bonfire or funeral pyre. Sado was used to those scents due to his numerous years spent as a nomad.
This scent was heavy in the air as if something big, and complex was freshly burnt not just wood but chemicals, plastics, and other substances and it seemed very near-by. It was harsh and hot to the nose and throat almost like the dispersed smoke was still hanging in the air it was accompanied by small flecks of ash and dust almost impossible to distinguish from the dirty snow. Sado began to follow these sets of tracks taking his time and watching the immediate area making sure not to disturb the tracks themselves taking a lower stance hunched over slightly to reduce noise or bumping into tree branches and the like. He grunted toward Trunks in a low tone, as to signal where he was going. He was used to this it reminded him of the times he was picked for the hunting party for his tribe. It felt strange and familiar.
Additionally he squinted his eyes slightly to reduce the chances of snow blindness by reducing the amount of light that entered his eye line. He knew snow could be deceptively dangerous from his time on the frigid Lightning Mountains. There were small signs of game in the area, rabbit tracks, small birds and nests even a few sets of deer tracks. However as he entered the tree line the visibility of the area dropped considerably. It was a mixture of the bright light reflected by the snowbanks and dunes, and the dark spots created by the dense snow overhead. It created a very dark and foreboding aura with a sense of distress in the air. The animals seemed strange they scattered and scurried away as soon as Sado entered the tree line. That was to be expected, and wasn't the weird part. They all seemed to go in one direction, instead of scattering outwardly in whatever direction they were heading some of the small game literally turned one-hundred and eighty degrees to head in the same direction as the others. Sado noticed this and pointed at it with his left hand if Trunks had listened and followed him into the tree line.
The deep smell of burnt plastic, chemicals and wood became denser the further into the forest Sado ventured. He also noticed several more sets of tracks moving in a southern direction almost from the way he came but a bit more eastwardly than where he came from. They seemed to almost travel in a circle or ellipse as if lost. There were numerous sets, at least four but they were interwoven and disorderly almost haphazard.
Could be the hunting party, but they don't seem in the best condition if it is.
Sado thought to himself as he continued inward. He followed these tracks inward as the ash and dust began to become more noticeable. The snowbanks were dyed a deep black from them, caked with dirt, grime, dust and soot. Sado noticed a mound of burnt-... stuff was the only way he could describe it off in the distance. He traveled toward it coming up on it and bending over. He placed his left hand down upon the snow dipping his index and middle fingers into the snow lifting them and rubbing them together investigating the sickly substance. It was ash a lot of it, along with the remains of a building. Lab equipment and glass vials were scattered about. There were shards of glass throughout the area pockets of melted snow, and finally blood. Lots of it, some burnt and browned streaks of blood riddled the area some of the blood interweaving with the several tracks that seemed to originate from here.
There was a fire, it seems like a laboratory. I feel like these people were running from something, or someone. I don't know how the fire started but it let them escape to safety. With the numerous amount of tools I assume some were tortured and tested upon. I noticed several scalpels strewn through the debris. On top of that instruments made specifically to torture it's disturbing. Who would do something that sick and demented? We need to find those people, their tracks indicate that they're lost, starving and most likely injured.
Sado spoke for the first time in a while. His tone was melancholy and depressed. He realized that there truly were sick, twisted individuals in this world, and with how he acted when he became more violent he assumed he might be one of them. He stood up and dusted himself off as he turned toward the tracks and began to follow them. He darted forward now, seemingly moving at a fast pace rushing toward these people. He assumed they needed help, and he thought they might be the hunting party he was sent here to find.
He traveled in a large arc noticing that the tracks did indeed twist throughout the eerie forest. It was strange for hunters they seemed very out of place or lost. As he moved throughout the area he noticed the long spindle like trails of blood in the area. Whoever did this to them would pay, but that was something for later.
THESE WERE SADO'S PEOPLE-... he thought to himself almost angry at the thought of someone else stealing them away and hurting them. HE promised to protect them and he had failed, he would enact revenge upon whatever sick **** did this.
Moving forward through the coldness Sado seemed unaffected by the sheer cold, his anger and rage seemed to keep him warm more than that he was sweating profusely. He rushed onward the tracks becoming less like foot tracks and more like long marks dug into the snow by people dragging themselves. Eventually he began to notice small slash marks etched into the trees.
Smart, they began to mark their path like a lost animal.
Sado had seen similar marks when hunting wolves and bears in the mountains. They indicated the creature was lost or marking it's territory. Sado was getting closer. He picked up his pace even further grabbing the straps of his weights and dropping them down upon the ground increasing his speed further. In the distance he heard chatter. He made his way toward it coming into a clearing and seeing a group of people, six of them they were in terrible condition. Sado exhaled heavily as the warmth filled the air around his face creating a wash of steam.
He slowed down, as he noticed the group shutter and begin to move in fear, each person had a terrified gleam in their eye like beaten and abused animals. Sado could see from from here even without using the diagnosis skill the wounds they suffered were intense and on top of that they seem psychologically scarred by the events.
Wait, I'm here to help. I was sent by the people of Forskellig to find you.
Some of the group seemed to soften slightly while the rest became more fearful and even tried to break away from the others and run. It was understandable these people had probably been through hell. Sado didn't know what to do or say to calm them. He lifted his hands into the air at about head height and began to walk slowly toward them.
His demeanor was calm, kind and charismatic. He showed them his coat and how it showed he was a doctor, here to help. For some this seemed to calm them further for others it worried them more than his appearance. As Sado approached he lowered his stance even further trying to show non-hostility toward the group.
I can heal all of you I assume you've been through a lot. I came across the facility you escaped from.
I want information, I'm going to hold whoever did this responsible and they will be dealt with accordingly.
No one hurts those who fall under my protection and gets away with it. Never again.
Sado knelt down quickly summoning several healing instruments and a small hut pulling them out of his coat as if a magician pulling out a card or objects from thin air. Sado motioned for them to come over and a few did, namely three women and a man. Sado nodded lightly and opened the door of the hut showing that it was somehow larger on the inside than it was on the outside. The three women seemed amazed by this while the man was defensive. He spoke with a broken slurred speech, his letters sucking in air and swishing spit and blood through his mouth.
How do we know you are here to help? There was a man like you back at the facility dressed in a fancy coat.
His tone was full of sorrow and torment as if he had been tortured, starved and hurt repeatedly. Sado didn't know how to respond he wanted to help. Originally this was jut to prove a point that Golden Sabbath would protect Forskellig and the surrounding lands.
Now it had became more than that he genuinely wanted to provide aid to these people and get them home. It wasn't just for the publicity and the sake of spreading the name of his clan. It was more than that, he felt obligated to help.
Actions speak louder than words I guess.
Sado said as he performed the diagnosis skill outside of the small tent. He realized the man HAD been tortured. Severely at that, multiple broken ribs, several broken fingers, the fingernails removed from several fingers as well as a tooth or two ripped from his mouth. It was appalling and it only made Sado more furious. Again the thought entered his mind
"THESE WERE HIS PEOPLE" louder this time drowning out every other thought.
You have three broken ribs, two broken fingers, and two teeth ripped from your mouth.
The man became even more defensive at this.
Eh how do you know that? Yous one of them ain't cha?
He said in a rushed fearful tone almost ready to bolt.
Sado noticed this and immediately began to explain.
No, I'm trained in medical ninjutsu one of the abilities I learned early on was called the diagnosis skill. By taking my chakra and channeling it through a patient I'm able to get an accurate understanding of their ailments. Sometimes it also allows me to understand their emotions, and feelings. Through it I could sense your outward injuries as well as a few of the inward ones. I know you're afraid, and I know you're distrusting of me but I truly only want to help.
The man paused and lifted his right hand toward Sado.
'Ell if you wanna help. I 'aven't been able to move my hand for days.
Sado noticed the numerous nails pulled from the nail beds and the index, and pinky finger were broken in two places dislocated at the metacarpophalangeal joint and the distal interphalangeal joint. It was as if the fingers were just pulled and twisted until they were dislocated. Sado extended his right hand placing the man's hanging hand upon it as he placed his left hand upon it. He pushed downward with his left hand as he pushed upward with his right causing the fingers to straighten and push back into place. It would have been more correct to reset each joint but Sado didn't feel like there was time as there were numerous more people to heal. The fingers made a cracking noise as they were set into place and he channeled healing chakra into the hand. This additionally healed the nail beds.
There, how does that feel?
Sado said smiling slightly at the man to try and promote a friendly back and forth.
Better.
Sado lowered his right and left hand now placing one on either side of the man's chest. He had two broken vertebrosternal ribs on the left side and one on the right. He pushed inward with a considerable amount of force while pushing upward setting the ribs into place again channeling healing chakra through the body. This allowed the ribs to set and heal properly as Sado spoke again.
There you're all set, except your teeth. I can't do much about those I'm not a dentist.
The man looked around at the group and spoke a little bit clearer now that he wasn't dealing with the pain.
He's alright. I'm Colin, thank you for the help.
To that one of the three woman stepped forward. She was bruised and battered, a black eye, lacerations to the body with patches of flesh missing. It was as if the person doing this was taking samples of flesh. It was strange and angered Sado slightly. It was as if she had been treated like a cut of meat, it reminded him of his own past. There was a large patch of flesh missing from her stomach as she pulled up her shoddy linen over shirt. Blood had soaked through it was a miracle some of these people were still alive. Sado performed the diagnosis skill and placed a palm on each patch of missing flesh increasing the cellular regeneration rate allowing more flesh to be produced thus closing the open wounds. He used isopropyl alcohol to sterilize the wounds as to reduce the chance of infection.
There you should be fine. I need someone to explain everything.
I'll heal the rest of you but right now I'm pretty pissed at whoever did this to you all.
Any information would be useful.
The woman he had just healed began to speak.
My name is Helena, I'm from Forskellig, I traveled up this way with a woman named Aveline and a hunting party she was in charge of the hunting party. One day she just vanished we searched for her until we were all exhausted. We set to rest in a small clearing and in the middle of the night we were ambushed. I didn't see much, it was dark.
The woman began to cry at this point seemingly thinking how best to explain.
I was knocked unconscious and woke up in a sterile white room. It was padded and small like a prison cell. I was there for a few days separated from everyone my only contact to the world was through a metal slit in the door that a man dressed in a white coat passed food through. On about the third day-... that's when it started. The man would take me to an operating table, after sedating me. I was still conscious but I couldn't control my body. Once there a man would speak over a speaker to the doctor who would follow his directions. He used big words, and told him where and how to cut into me. It was painful I couldn't move my body, I was forced to just lay there and cry. Then another man came, a few days later. He began opening the doors and setting fires. He let us all go and seemed rather angry searching through the compound for anyone or anything. We scattered we found a few of our people but some of these people we don't know. We thought it best to travel in a group. Then you showed up and offered aid-... I just want to go home.
Sado listened intently and waited for her to stop.
He seemed even more angered by the story as he looked around for Trunks.
