This doesn't even make any sense =/ All these gears ARE Luffy's skills. He just calls them gears because they can be classified differently from his regular techs because they can be used in conjunction with those techs. With other words they have a supportive role. For example he has his regular "Pistol" attack, then he has with Gear 2nd "Jet Pistol" and with Gear 3rd "Giant Pistol", but in essence all these Gears are still very well techs and both of these Gears have been explained as how they work. So I really don't understand why so many people are whining about it and comparing it to Super Saiyans and Naruto and act like it's some kind of hack despite them being completely different and perfectly genuine techs.

Apparently if he would have just named them something like Gomu Gomu no Jet and Gomu Gomu no Giant instead of Gear 2nd and 3rd, there wouldn't have been any issues =/

Also Doflamingo pointed out the flaws in some of Luffy's techs, not any lack of them.

The problem is that Gear 2 and Gear 3, while being genuine techniques, are not the same as a Gomu Gomu no Pistol or Jet Gatling. They're compared to Super Saiyan because they are supplementary techniques, they're enhancers. They are meant to enhance Luffy's offensive and defensive ability. What gave Gears 2 and 3 their charm was that they weren't ranked enhancers. Luffy swapped them in and out of battle, it wasn't a "Gear 2 is failing, I better power-up even further to Gear 3." The potential problem with Gear 4 is that it could be a ranked enhancer, like Super Saiyan was to Kaioken. It'd suck if Gear 4 drives Oda into a corner where the readers go "Why is Luffy continuing to use Gear 2 and 3 when he has Gear 4?"

A solution is giving Gear 4 some kind of massive drawback, but I'd also like it if Gear 4 could do something Gear 2 and 3 can't, while keeping it so that Gear 2 can do something Gear 3 and 4 can't, and Gear 3 doing something Gear 2 and 4 can't.

Finally Gear 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This also confirms that the rest of the battle will be Luffy vs Doflamingo one on one. And people throught there would be no one on one fight.

Heck Doflamingo probably has yet to unveil his trump card, so we will soon see Luffy's most poweful trick vs Doflamingo's most powerful trick.

I am calling it that Doflamingo undoes his bird cage and turns it into a giant puppet of himself to fight Luffy.

Also this officially answers the Luffy vs Law question, Luffy is officially stronger than Law.

Now about Gear 4, I doubt it will be a combo of Gear 2 and 3 because that's already been done, it will be something very new.

For someone with the username intellect you make some pretty stupid comments.

First of all you don't know when to use 'hypocrites' correctly and second and worst is that you blame Oda for the break while it isn't Oda who is taking the break but the pulisher.

Oda never takes a break because he continues working and the breaks are scheduled so that you don't have to be surprised every time there is one.

I suggest a name change.

I'm not talking about the power-up itself, but more the physical stats Luffy showed so far. This chapter completely shitted on the purpose of gear2 in Enies Lobby where it was supposed to upgrade his power and speed, yet his upgraded power had always looked like lightweight since post-timeskip with many guys blocking or withstanding it(base Hyouzou, Monet, Bellamy, etc) and now we have this chapter basically confirming the weakness in attack power of the mode by Doflamingo.

Gear2 wasn't introduced to be this weak in the past. It was supposed to double Luffy's base strength, so if his gear second is now "too weak", it means his base stats are now shitty. Luffy needing to use gear4 is then a confirmation that all what Luffy had shown so far in gear2 and gear3 that i used to buy as plot instances even against the weakest ones, was infact his real stats, to the point that he needed to upgrade the stretching capabilities of his devil fruit in order to grow in strength instead of concentrating on his already powerful base stats(preskip at least). It sounded like Luffy actually needs gear4 upgrade from stretching capabilities to be a monster fighter as opposed to others base stats that are already this high without power-up. It wasn't like this before

I understand what u mean but Luffy's DF is his 'base'.. the moment he ate it. It's not just something he can deny. Luffy is a DF fighter. In Luffy's case this is more so strengthened by the fact his entire body changed drastically.
His DF is not just a weapon, it is literally Luffy's very essence. He revolved his very fighting style around his DF. That counts for every DF eater. It's useless to speculate how strong he would be if he didn't have a DF either, or how strong he would be in 'base'. He would have probably trained in a very different way if he never ate it. Base Luffy did not excist anymore the moment he took a bite out of the Gomu Gomu no mi.
It's the same for people who say "Law is weak without his DF".. It's just not a fair thing to say cause his DF is simply a part of himself so there is no way of knowing how strong a DF user would be if they did not eat their respective fruit.
Also Gear 2 has been going for 10 + years now, maybe it was time for a new power up. 10 years ain't nothing.
