Dat Goda doeCrazy that Gear Second was introduced in chapter 387 and Gear Fourth is being introduced in chapter 783. Coincidence or no?
Not really.I hoped the gear 4 would never happen and even if it ever happened I had hope that it would be somewhere against an end game villain i.e Akainu or Blackbeard, its just the classic shonen things, transforming on and on and on which for me i pretty shitty no matter how u look at it, if gear 4 is needed against an opponent like Doffy and gear 2 has no effect against him then gear 2 has officially lost its importance on the story and the way luffy went straight for gear 4 was even more disappointing, we had already seen luffy stack gears against moria he had used G2 + G3 in order to neglect the weakness dofllamingo calls, back then luffy was fast and strong without having to ue a new power up and that + CoC and koka would be more then enough but instead we got some fancy 4th gear which is ridiculous and is more of fanservice for the screaming fanboys but truth said it makes no sense at all.
The more gears luffy uses the more importance of lesser gears will go off and especially the importance of normal or G1 Luffy now has gone to shit and the chapter pretty much proves that luffy's physical stats are crap compared to how well roundabout Doffy is build, he has great physical stats and speed without the need of having gears or whatsoever with his ito ito no mi being just an weapon to make more powerfull blows.
Overall the chapter was good, the interaction between Cabbage and Law made the chapter for me, 4/5.

Of course he isnt going to use gear 4 against a weakling like chinjao, really man? What was the purpose of training, what was the purpose of training haki and CoC, gear 4 is a fanservice weapon nothing more or less anyone with a brain can see that, making one gear losing importance while adding others up, like I said the writer could have found many ways to deal with a wounded doflamingo but he choose the most generic way of doing it, pull out a power up.Not really.
Rule of Gears, the gears all put a strain on Luffy, more than likely he won't be able to use Gear 4 constantly, it will be his end game move where Gears 2 and 3 he can use repetitively.
This is most likely something he will only use against the big bosses, he didn't even use it against Chinjao who has a 500 mil bounty, he just beat him with Gears 2 and 3.
Also, this chapter pretty much seals the friendship between Luffy and Law, Law basically said he should die alongside Luffy if Doflamingo wins.
The alliance will be permanent after this.
You do realize that Doflamingo has been holding back up till this point, the bad guy never goes all out until the end of the fight.Of course he isnt going to use gear 4 against a weakling like chinjao, really man? AS I said if gear 4 is used against an weakened dofla then we will definitely have a gear 5 later in story then I except luffy to have some spiky and yellow hair later in the story, yeah great!
That'd be pretty bad tbh.I am calling it that Doflamingo undoes his bird cage and turns it into a giant puppet of himself to fight Luffy.
No it doesn't actually. All this chapter has shown is that Luffy has been unable to do anything against Doflamingo while completely on his own, with both Gears being ineffective, which just reinforces that both Law and Luffy needed teamwork. Also this officially answers the Luffy vs Law question, Luffy is officially stronger than Law.
Hypocrites who don't like the "Gear 4th" thing without seeing it![]()
That doesn't dismiss the problem, that's EXACTLY the problem. Gears 2 and 3 were never like Enel's Vari. It was never a "Gear 2 didn't boost my strength enough, so now I need Gear 3's boost to go beyond." Gear 2 and 3 were on equal standing; they both had their drawbacks and gave a strength that the other couldn't and made up for a weakness the other had. Gear 2 and 3 were never "Well that Gear didn't boost my strength and speed enough, I need to go one Gear higher." They were interchangeable, with Luffy using Gear 2 when he needed to beat the shit out of someone and get around them, and using Gear 3 when he needed to unleash a big move, finisher-style.Gears are attacks inheritent to the DF Gomu Gomu no mi..
Ofcourse G2 will get weaker after 10 years
Enel uses 1, 5 Million, 10, 20, 30, 50, 60 Million, 100, and Max 200 Million Volt Vari
We could basically say those are Gear 1-8... for Enel (all these attacks increase his DC capacities)
It is absolutely no difference, both are attacks that are made possible from a DF , the only difference is the naming "Gear" that makes it sound like it a transformation but it's merely an abilty no different from other DF's
Calling Luffy's physical strength weak is bs if he can enhance it with Gear 4 so be it. His DF is part of who he is , in Lufy's case his body fundamentally changed
Maybe you haven't picked up on this. That'd be pretty bad tbh.

If Oda starts introducing Gears like that where Gear 8>Gear 7>Gear 6>Gear 5>Gear 4>Gear 3> Gear 2, then the lower Gears will become more and more obsolete as the enemies get stronger. If this is the route Oda is going, then if Gear 4 is needed against Doffy because Gears 2 and 3 aren't working, we're gonna get to villains even stronger than Doffy where Gear 4 won't be enough, so going to 3 and 2 would be useless. If Oda goes this route, we will eventually never see Gear 2 and Gear 3 again unless it's on relative fodder, which is the same route Akira Toriyama went with Super Saiyan and Kaioken, hence the comparison and worry. It's not that people don't like that there could be a Gear 4, it's just that there is the potential Oda will end up making Gears obsolete and take away the charm of Gears(which is that they weren't just > one with a lesser number, but were equal to one another in that they had a strength the other didn't have, but the others strength made up for their weaknesses. In a sense, Luffy's Gears were a perfect and amazing metaphor for the Strawhat Crew, especially when he devised them in the arc that the crew seemed to be falling apart with Usopp's defection and Robin leaving).
All can go well if Oda keeps the formula that just because a Gear has a higher number attached to it, that doesn't mean it's automatically stronger or makes the smaller numbered Gears useless.
I don't know why people keep saying "But Gears are just new techs." It's not the same as Luffy using a new attack called Red Hawk, or Hawk Gatling, or Hawk Whip. The Gears have been enhancing techniques. They are closer to the concept of transforming or entering a new mode than the concept of Luffy's offensive techniques. They are not new offensive techniques, they are enhancers to the offensive techniques. Luffy doesn't hit the opponents with Gear 2 or Gear 3, he just does the exact same thing as his normal techniques, and lets the Gears passively boost them.
No, I'm sure Doflamingo will show more moves later on, though I don't necessarily believe these will be inherently stronger than any moves shown so far. If anything, we'll most likely get Doflamingo exerting more physical effort and a few new techs, but not some new moveset that's entirely superior to the old one.Maybe you haven't picked up on this.
But Law is down and out.
Doflamingo hasn't even begun to get serious yet and unless Law is healed and flies up there next chapter Luffy will fight Doflamingo's full power by himself.
Or do you honestly think the author will end the arc without Doflamingo showing his strongest moves.
That proves that Luffy is above Law, as he will have to overpower Doflamingo's best moves, Law couldn't even overpower his weakest moves.
Heck this chapter showed that Luffy is holding back as well up to this point, he hasn't even gone all out against Doflamingo yet.
Luffy is barely standing according to Doflamingo because of his injuries, so they are even there, he even joked when Luffy said that he can kill Law over his dead body that he was already half way there..No, I'm sure Doflamingo will show more moves later on, though I don't necessarily believe these will be inherently stronger than any moves shown so far. Not only that, but it's not like Law went up against a 100% Doflamingo, failed, now Luffy is going up against a 100% Doflamingo as well. It was stressed more than once that Law's attack has had an effect on Doflamingo. Even if Doflamingo uses his strongest moves before he's defeated, Luffy didn't fight Doflamingo at his strongest. You can't say "Ha, Law failed and Luffy succeeded, therefore Luffy is stronger" when part of the reason Luffy succeeded IS the damage that Law inflicted. For all we know, if Doffy had never been hit by Gamma Knife or received any damage from Law prior to this fight, Luffy wouldn't be able to win even with Gear 4. We should also wait to see what exactly Gear 4 is even before just assuming this means he's stronger than Law.
I just hope that in visual terms its closer to g2 than g3 because to me g3 ang giant limbs have always been kinda meh while anything "jet" just looks awesomeLife Return+FBK to increase muscle mass? Could be the return of the Nightmare Luffy xD
Luffy barely has any significant injuries that weren't from Doffy himself.Luffy is barely standing according to Doflamingo because of his injuries, so they are even there, he even joked when Luffy said that he can kill Law over his dead body that he was already half way there..
And despite Doflamingo's state, he isn't worried or even concerned, heck he is fighting while controlling his bird cage, he hasn't even begun to try or take either of them seriously, he has a big confident smile on his face and has been playing games up till this point.
Its established that Luffy hasn't even been using his new abilities to their full extent.
Or are you trying to claim that what Law did made Doflamingo's strongest attacks weaker than his weakest attacks?
Because that is the only way that Law will be equal or stronger than Luffy.
Luffy is definitely stronger than Law at this point, if he can take down Dofalmingo's strongest attacks.
Completely agree. The sonic boom effects and close combat martial arts are awesome, and the steam looks badass.I just hope that in visual terms its closer to g2 than g3 because to me g3 ang giant limbs have always been kinda meh while anything "jet" just looks awesome
