Not necessarily a mistranslation but they were simply calling out for God Usopp who had a bounty of 500 million laid out by Doflamingo, not Luffy.
Yeah but Doflamingo is the one who issued it, how would they be able to cash it in? Regardless for some odd reason I do think you are right and they were still referring to Usopp. Because there going off what they here more than likely, the world knows Usopp as Sogeking not God Usopp.

They were just labeling him 500 mil straw hat because they don't know what else to call him, not necessarily because they want the reward.

It was referring to Luffy not Usopp. His name is in the raw and Aohige confirmed it anyway
Weird way for the news to be delivered then if this is true.

If thats the case he got a pretty big boost.

yea that was bothering me as well, but if what Bogard says turns out true than it was Luffy indeed. Im more excited to see Zoro's bounty and the rest.

I'm still doubtful. Was Luffys name truly in the raw or was that just Aohige assuming just like we are, 500 mil straw hat could refer to any of the SHs. And we know Usopp had a 500 million bounty placed by Dofla but those guys who were supposedly referring to Luffy didn't even have a poster to prove they were in fact talking about Luffy.

Yea well I was just saying IF what he says turns out to be true. I seriously thought they were referring to Usopp.

But I don't know why everyone's complaining about a 500 million bounty. That's a pretty big jump from 400 mil especially since bounties aren't supposed to increase much at all once they're that great.

Well it is impressive, I just feel like his bounty should have been given after word of him having a 5600 man fleet. If he had waited it would be even higher.

sadly only 500.000.000
Even ace, who was weaker and not even captain, had more.
wtf oda plsz
Only? It was already said before that once past the 300m mark it because extremely difficult to increase it. Luffy just became the Supernova with the highest bounty in a manner of a few weeks while the others took 2 years to get their current bounty and you also can't forget the fact that Ace started his journey two or three years before Luffy.

That Ace would be weaker is in the least a far from being a fact, so that's not an argument and he was one of the highest commanders of who was considered to be the strongest Yonkou. All of the top three commanders were capable of taking on admirals.

I don't think its Luffy's bounty. I think they were referring to God Usopp. I'll Wait for the best translation.

a 100 million bounty boost isn't an eruption for you lol? Especially since they said its harder to raise bounty when its around 300 mil or so.....
I'm going to go with this interpretation, makes much morse sense.

That's not really important, I mean these guys are trying to take on the group of people who took down DD and they are talking about taking down king Riku while currently the marines are still very well present on the island. On top of that these were the guys who were dealing with DD, meaning they are pretty much accomplices. Essentially what they are saying and doing makes no sense, Oda plainly threw them out there as a 'prop' to create a certain atmosphere while they are drinking the sake and for the Fujitora scene.

In this case I don't find that much of a confirmation. Strawhat and Strawhat Luffy are so closely tied to each other that easily somewhere along the way a small mistake could have been made, I wouldn't even disclose it if the person who added the text on the original version in Japan would have made a mistake.

The context of this chapter makes me believe it's far more logical for them to be referring to Usopp rather than Luffy, so I'm goin with that interpretation till the manga would give a more clearer statement about the matter.

I agree with you about the Ace power thing, he was always shown as the superior member of ASL while they were all alive so to think that would have changed if he had remained alive seems a bit premature. He'd have to seriously slack off on his training/growth which isn't likely. Although Ace did start 2 years ahead of Luffy Luffy took a two year training break so now there power levels are a little more comparable(still not completely comparable since Ace's development level was capped with his death) and Luffy now is stronger than Ace was at his death in MF I believe.

Also I think Luffy deserves the highest bounty among the Supernova at least until we hear more about Kid's sailing. We know he's ruthless and attacks villages and innocents and stuff which would give him an edge over Luffy in the threat area but Luffy has taken out a lot of Government affiliations: Partnered with 3 shichibukai, beat another 3, beat 1 prior to becoming and would likely beat him again, has/had some connection to one through his father though if that remains is still to be seen, his "2nd in command" was trained by another though the last two may not be well known to the Government. He's dethroned 1 king, learned about Government cover ups while freeing countries like Alabasta. He invaded and freed the prisoners in Imple Down, he attacked Ennies Lobby and as they described it declared war on the world right to their face. He interrupted the War at MF. He's carrying around Roger's hat, is the son of the World's most dangerous criminal and sworn brother to the Priate King's son and that's just what I can remember impacting the WG directly. Kid would have to have a seriously heavy list of shit to really deserve a higher bounty than Luffy.

a captain always gets more bounty - look at Zoro and Luffy (they are equal or maybe Luffy stronger, idk)
and look the difference in their bountys (still waiting for new Zoro bounty)
Luffy is the son of the most wanted man
i cant think of a serious reply to this, cause this is just bullshit.zoro fans bringing zoro into every faking little thing.i said ace had a better bounty cause he was a bigger threat,i didn't even mentoin zoro.
also luffy only recently became a considerable threat to the WG.he had to train and took time to reach levels.ace being strong naturally and eating a logia made it easier for him to climb up the ladder.

No, it isn't. If you compare it to Luffy's previous bounty changes it isn't a significant change. People were expecting a significant change in part as a way of acknowledging just how strong Luffy has gotten over the time skip and also because Doflamingo was a shichibukai, underworld kingping, an actual king and a former tenryuubito making him the most important man Luffy has gone up against and beaten.

There is no point in raising a bounty after a certain point because the number of people who can cash it in will decrease as the threat grows bigger.

Oda said himself that all bounties beyond 500M wont go up that much anymore. And it makes sense because even if Dragon's bounty would be 15 billion Berri, there would be no one who can go and defeat him.

What strong pirate would risk his life to do the work of the marines for a couple of Berri.

Bounties are far more effective when placed on mediocre 'grand line pirates', if I was a New World captain I would be cashing bounties of rookies on sabaody archipelago, after that point the people who make it to the new world are not worth hunting.

Ace's bounty was so high simply because he was the son of Gol D. Roger.

I do think Oda ****ed up with making Ace's bounty 500 mil, when it doesn't correlate with his power level or anything. But then his bounty was focused around him being Roger's son, and not on actual "threat" he was presenting to the government.

All that said I think Bounty Price escalation is one of the few things Oda didn't really consider. How do you have Croc a Shichibukai at 81 million bounty but Bellamy had a 55 mil and then a 195 mil? There's no world where Bellamy is more of a threat than Croc. Maybe Croc got his Shichibukai invite early on in his Pirate career and his bounty cut off early?
Boa Hancock, who was introduced a lot later in the series, only got a bounty of 80,000,000, which is slightly lower than Crocodile's. However, this can be explained. The World Government feared her potential and invited her to the Shichibukai at the young age of 18. Crocodile probably follows in the same example. This should explain it better:

"There is an enormous range in the bounties between the members of the Shichibukai due to differences in circumstances under which they were recruited, with Trafalgar Law, who had a bounty of 440,000,000, and Blackbeard, who had no bounty at all. It should be noted that these are their former bounties, and do not represent the current threat they could achieve as active pirates. Jinbe's bounty, for example, jumped from 250,000,000 to over 400,000,000 after his resignation. Another example is Crocodile, who, with a bounty of 81,000,000, was imprisoned in Level 6 of Impel Down, while Luffy with a bounty of 300,000,000 at the time was put only at Level 5." - One Piece Wikia

Did you miss the part where they murdered innocent pregnant women in order to exterminate the Roger bloodline ?

I think it was pretty clear there was a threat to the WG as long as someone with the blood of the Pirate King was still sailing around.

Ace being alive is the embodiment of marine failure and the Roger's will living on. Ace didn't even had to be strong, if he went around the world telling people about the One Piece it would be just as bad as when Roger did it himself during his execution.

The government cant have Roger's son sailing in freedom, and that is why he is a threat to them, and why he has that bounty.

Also I do believe that Ace could've achieved a 500M bounty based on power as well.

Why are you saying this to KH like he didn't say the same thing?

Buy some glasses or try to actually read when you're looking at a bunch of letters.

Not going into detail but I said that to KH for 2 reasons;

1) I don't think Oda ****ed up the bounty, I think it's pretty reasonable for Ace to have a 500M bounty considering his potential threat to the government, as explained in my post.

2) KH said: "and not on actual "threat" he was presenting to the government." And I disagreed with that. Ace was a very real threat and a thorn in their sides as long as he sailed in freedom. Maybe not in terms of power on his own but by representing marine failure.
