It doesn't matter since Gai is a taijutsu specialist, but still got defeated in that category, so what makes you believe that the gap became that huge over years when Kakashi was greater than him from the start even without Sharingan? They use to make duels and along them there are taijutsu matchs. It's exactly like Hashirama and Madara practicing

Kakashi is always at 3T, meaning he has to ACTIVATE MS himself.
Sasuke, in recent chapters has been shown to jump straight into MS, while his eyes were normal.

So there's no chance of Kakashi just kamui'ing Sasuke out of the blue, before Sasuke can do anything.
