Hiruzen didn't even fight in the first war, and he certainly wasn't Hokage, as he only attained that title in the second war when Tobirama needlessly sacrificed himself (seriously, that was pure plot, could have just used Hiraishin to teleport himself and his comrades back to Konoha, that needing a decoy ish was garbage). Anyway, Hiruzen took over in the middle of the second war, but he wasn't even the corner stone to them winning it, the Sannin were the heroes of that war, but I'll let it slide since he was their sensei.
