Bayern München vs Juventus
Stadium: Fußball Arena München, Munich (GER)
Quarter Finals - 1st leg
This game may look more like an ''international match'' Germany-Italy but it totally isn't. A lot of rumors say that Juventus will beat Bayern, just because Italy won against Germany on EURO 2012. That weak loss for Germans got a nickname like ''Germans have problems with Italian football''. Actually this isn't even a reason why Juventus can beat Bayern. A good/funny comment by Muller was: "Actually, we went through against Fiorentina (in the 2009/10 round of 16) and we beat Napoli in the group stages last year, thank you very much!" Bayern even won 4-1 against Juve in 2009/2010 ChL Group-stages. Lahm (Bayern) also commented: ''We can crack Juve''. ''We've got some very good players and can combine them to great effect, as we did against Hamburg at the weekend. In this game, every loss of concentration will be ruthlessly punished and we can't allow that to happen, especially at home.''
So (''Bayern'')Germany-Italy(''Juventus'') has nothing to do with this match.
This game, has no favorite. Juventus are unbeaten in 9 ChL games, sending a ''scary message'' to Bayern by making them know that Juventus has a very good defence! Bayern can be called ''the better team'' but, Juventus is ''the dangerous team''. Even if Bayern may have a weaker defence, they have a better attack...The opposite for Juve. As for midfield they look equal.
Possible line-up for Bayern will be:
Neuer - Lahm, Boateng, Dante, Alaba - Gustavo, Schweinsteiger - Muller, Kroos, Ribery - Mandzukic
For Juventus:
Buffon - Barzagli, Chiellini, Bonucci - Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Asamoah - Matri, Quagliarella
Bayern's last amazing BundeLiga game warned Juve. Smashing Hamburg 9-2, 4 goals from Pizarro, 2 from Robben, etc. Robben was a key player, but the whole team made a perfect match.
I think Bayern came back to their cool form. From some close results in the BundesLiga (1-0; 3-2; 2-1) and a shocking loss in the Champions League (0-2 against Arsenal) to a 9-2 ''warm-up'' win!
But, we shouldn't forget Juve's last match, 2-1 win against Inter.
The 1st leg, is at Bayern's home stadium so they should totally be the better team! Losing at home, can destroy everything. Their team-spirit and their big hopes of winning the name ''European Champions''.
But don't overrate Juventus! Both teams are strong and have their own different weakness.
Conte's comments:
Bayern are a reference point for us; not just on the pitch, but also as a club. How things are working here, this is just great. Of course we are looking for weaknesses. We have studied them and prepared very well. We know our strengths and their weaknesses, even if they have few. We are talking about a team who are always able to score at least one goal, who are always capable of winning the game and who are always able to come back.
Buffon:
We know how strong we are. It will be different to three years ago [Juventus lost 4-1 to Bayern in the group stage of the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League]. That game was a real shame, we played horribly and my back was hurting in the end as I had to pick the ball out of the net four times.
Toni Kroos:
Juve is a great name in European football and of course they will be a hard and strong opponent. Juve, from my point of view, is the strongest team after Barcelona. They will be very strong in defence like always. It is an Italian team. It would be ideal not to concede a goal. Our aim is to win the game. We want to travel to Italy with best chance to go through to the semi-finals.
Muller:
We are concentrating hard and we know it will be difficult. Of course we are not expecting a 9-2 win again. This will be a completely different game to last Saturday against Hamburg. It will be extremely important not to concede a goal. All the offensive players will have to do their share of defensive work. Our last game against Juventus was a very important one. We won it and it was kind of turnaround of our season in 2009/2010. So I have really good memories.
Bayern team news:
While David Alaba was rested and therefore absent from the squad against Hamburg, Mario Gomez was missing with a muscle strain. The versatile Luiz Gustavo replaced Alaba and played at left-back for the first time this term.
Juve team news:
Mirko Vučinić (flu) sat out the Inter match but trained on the eve of the match. Sebastian Giovinco, who received a bad knock to the ankle in the final minutes against the Nerazzurri, is also in the squad. Conte said he "would not know until tomorrow" on Vučinić. Giorgio Chiellini recovered from his own ankle problem to play from the start on Saturday.
