I was reading the interview with Kishi, it said that two important characters would die...
One being J-man and the other maybe being Kakashi. Pain does state before he throws the nail that it's not a clone and says, "die"! I'm sorry to say this, but Kakashi is going to die. And I don't want him to die!!!!

I don't see the ninja of Konoha that matter turning on Naruto because he didn't show up to fight Pein. They know he's the 9 tails, and they are his friends. The rest of Konoha can dislike him as they already have, but they don't matter to the story. Danzou said something like "now the nine-tails is contained," and he that has nothing to do with peoples' opinion of Naruto.
Regarding Kakashi, I don't see him going down so easily. I'd also rather see him die than lose his eye. He's Hatake Kakashi the Sharingan warrior or Copy Ninja. Granted he was a genius without it, but he's legendary with it.

Pein is a pushover now that everyone figured out his secret its only a matter of time before they team up on him and kill him. I thought he was better than that but i am still anxious to see what he can do though
