I understand the idea of forgiveness, but really...If someone killed my parents, my friend, went to war with my homeland, and tried to kill me a plethora of times, but did basically a few good things and turned his life around I might be able to forgive him(but probably not), but I wouldn't call him awesome/cool!

What does this prove? It's the same shit as "He's the coolest" The only different here is that a reason was provided.

The 'nothing but' there basically states that Obito has always been awesome 'because he wanted to become hokage'. Obito Killed thousands of people and destroyed villages? No big, he wanted to become Hokage when he was 12. Every iteration of Obito is the same person, you can say "Oh, naruto refers to blah blah as masked whatever" but the fact is it doesn't matter what he referred to him as, he was still a mass murderer. If we only include the obito's that "Wanted to be hokage", that's <12 year old obito and the 5 minutes of obito who was revived by narujesus. Even then, those phases of obito barely fit in with the context of what BZ was talking about so stating that naruto's response was directed solely at them implies that naruto went off on a significant tangent with no warning or sign.

No matter the translation, it's a stupid, stupid line. It could have been handled better. Forgiving someone and calling them cool/awesome is a completely different thing.

Obito regretted what he did and tried to make amends as much as he could. He sacrificed himself in redemption to save Naruto, one who will surely make the world a better place.

Obito is no longer evil and saw the error of his ways. I think that merits forgiveness. What else must he do to earn that?
