College and college degrees, in my eyes, increase the chances of holding a good job, if you're shooting for one. Much like doctors and engineers. However i do see some of your point, my parents have only 2 year college degrees and they work in cardiology at a local hospital when usually a 4 year would get just as high.

By experience I mean actually real life work experience. You get that from either WORKING or from an apprenticeship which usually comes from trade crafts. And yes most freshly graduated college students do tend to ask for more money because we (myself included then) think our little diploma's will promise us anything!!! A lot of employer's do not even take into consideration your diploma. I've been to TONS of job interviews where they don't give 2 shits about my degree or where i went to school and more concerned about how much REAL LIFE experience ive had (FOR EXAMPLE) taking apart a transmission, repairing it, and putting it back together. Experience is the BEST way of getting a job!!!! THAT I can bet my life on!!! I'm 27 years old have been in and out of colleges (graduated them all) with atleast a 3.0 gpa (scholarship requirements) and thats what most every potential employer has asked about... Work experience greatly outweighs your diploma...

My point is that if you go to college, you have a better chance at doing something you wanna do instead of doing something you have to do. The OP wants to know all these different things but the best way to do learn that stuff is to go to college.

You shouldn't have to go to college, to do what you wanna do, that's probably his point.

Not necessarily. You have to weigh the risk of going to college (losing money, losing time etc.) to the reward (opportunities, networking, experience etc.) for your certain interest (doctor, businessman, teacher etc.) in order to logically find out if college is useful or not. If you feel the risks outweigh the reward then no, you shouldn't go to college and if you feel the rewards outweigh the risks then you probably should go to college.

look to put it simply kenotthib. Figure out what you wanna do with your life. That's exactly what it is!!! Your life... not your parents not mine nor anybody else on this site. You do what you think is best for you and if you fail then so be it. Life is about learning. If what your truly passionate about requires you a college degree then go for it!!! But say you love cars and want to go into that field, college is NOT necessary!!!! I have a friend who is a Master Guildsmen technician for Mercedes Benz who's currently making 180k a year working 3 days a week who has NEVER attended ANY type of school upon graduating HS.... He does what he loves and loves what he does. Hes 33 years old living in a ****en MANSION in CT with his own 2 bay shop in his home garage. He works 72 hours a week and can support his family on his own (wife is stay at home mom). Not all of us are that lucky but you get the idea!!! Don't jump on the bandwagon and go to college because your friends are doing it... Most people dont figure out what they truly want to do for the rest of their lives until their late 20's to mid 30's....

True. Thats the many problems many people face, but i think if you have the opportunity to go to college and not have to face those risks then you should go

I really want to be a benefit to mankind, I just feel like with the limited amount of time I have that the college route may not be the best way to go. Plus college prices are highly inflated.

Sorry but I disagree with you on that. You have the internet readily available to you!!!! I've used the internet to learn about all kinds of (College) stuff. String theory, learning about quantum physics, are 2 things I have taught myself through the use of the internet!!! And I only listed those 2 cause those are 2 things I understand just as well if not better than somebody who paid the money to learn about it in college... And all it cost me is my internet providers fee (included in my rent at my apt) which i pay for anyways and maybe about 2 months worth of free time.... Take the initiative to look into something that interests you!!! you dont need an overpriced education to learn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try to get entrance scholarships, they're really easy to get.

The problem is that you look down on people. All of your comments show that you believe yourself superior to those who choose not to go to college and get jobs that a lot of other people don't want. We are both alike. We have jobs that people complain about doing but are the first ones who call upon us to do what they need. An army job is tough and I can't imagine what you're going through but stop looking down on people.

I don't see myself superior. I see the nonconformist hipster wannabes that sit around complaining about the government but refuse to do anything productive to change it as useless. Its like the occupy wall street morons. They sat around complaining about the economy. That didn't change anything. If you have a problem with the government lobby in congress against whatever you think is messed up or better yet get a government job work your way up and change the rules yourself. Change in the government typically comes from the inside not out. No matter how much people think that yelling making signs and blasting something on the internet will change thing it doesn't work that way. Its common sense. If you were working on something that needs to get done but the guy your working with is screwing it up what's better yell at him and hope he gets it right or just do it yourself your own way. Those who don't are sheep. If there's a wolf in the flock what do they do? Bah until the sheperd comes to save them. They are the worst kind of people.
My job really isn't hard. Its 90% waiting around and 10% scrambling around at the last minute to accomplish some random tasking and having the patience to put up with dumb pvts and incompetent officers.

I admire your courage to serve this country, however we have no business interfering in other countries and war is driving this country further into bankruptcy.

The budget and who we fight is for politicians and the people to figure out. Its just my job to go handle things and produce the best end result possible. I agree we had no business in Iraq but when I look at it I focus more on the good we did than the bad. Saddam should have been brought down in the first war and their government is truly better off now. Afghanistan has just been going on too long. Their government will fail because of corruption from every level. Their police are gangsters plain and simple. The higher ups are just fighting each other over scraps. People talk about our government being messed up? They have no idea how good they have it.

Wow, such a slave mentality.

I rather fail in this slave system, than be a brainwashed conformist, who thinks the way of happiness is to do whatever the f*ck your master tells you is right.

People like you make me regurgitate, because every ideology, opinion, interest, or goal, is influenced by corrupt society.

You sound like the 8/10 group of people, just an "echo" of the governments words. You put so much trust in a system, that really doesn't have your best interest.

Edit:I bet your dream is to do all those things mentioned, and become rich, right?

Exactly the dream of every slave, who believes this type of government is necessary.

I mean, someone has to take stand, you can't be mad at me. Society will never get any better, if we think on a basic level, like you.

I don't give a damn what the politicians think. I don't even vote. I do my job and I help better society by being a productive member of it. You will not. I can't understand how you can hate so many of the people around you. I really don't. As for my life goals if i wanted to be rich i wouldn't be in the military would I? I want to retire when I'm 40. Get a job a regular job and live a typical life in a medium sized house. Your hate for the rest of the world is misplaced. You should take a look at your life because you sound like a very angry and self loathing individual.

Then don't do it. You don't "have" to do it, that's the point I'm trying to make. It's up to you. Either do it for experience, or don't do it. Either way it won't matter in the new Era.

To be honest I don't know I just want a stable job and study everything this world has to offer in science, math, politics, philosophy, literature, engineering, and some other things but it would take way to long to go to college for all of these.
I like how you value knowledge greatly. One option you can do is find what you are interested in the most (you can do so by experiencing your many interests and see which satisfies you the most or take tests for your personality or career you want) and then specialize in that one interest while your other interests are for when you have spare time. Then you would have to research loads of information on being successful in that one particular field and college may or may not be an option for finding opportunities for success. It's up to you to gather as much useful information about it and decide whether you risk college or not.

They're not that easy if you don't play sports and even if you get one, odds are it's not going to be a "free ride" scholarship and depending on which school you choose to attend and how big of a scholarship you obtain it could have little to no effect.

Go to college, to prolong your parents retirement.

There you go, issue solved. =)

Edit: If you don't wanna do it for your parents(which is not wrong), then do it for experience.

i dont get it. Do you know what prolong his parents retirement means? That means it will take LONGER before they can retire. Lets say they wanted to retire at 50. Their daughter now goes to MIT. Now they cant retire until 60. Now their son wants go to college. Now they cannot retire until they are 70. I think you are confusing prolong with making their retirement last longer instead of their retirement being delayed. "Go to college, to prolong your parents retirement"

That sounds like a very bad thing to do to his parents. You make it sound like its a good thing lol.

Go, and have a better life

or

Don't go, and work at McDonalds for the rest of your life.

So, because I'm not a slave, I hate myself? You know what makes me angry? Deception and ignorance!

I don't hate anyone, it's not your fault you have a slave mentality, and resort to insults and baseless assumptions to survive in the argument.

Your opinion matters "not", for the truth that will come to fruition. I help those around me, I'm loyal as f*ck to my family, AND I work at a daycare, voluntarily(Which means for no pay). You wouldn't understand any of that would you?

You believe war, finance, and spending money is the way of happiness. And no, I'm not saying I'm perfect, I'm just aware of the deception, that you choose to close your eyes from.

Edit: Lmao, your idea of "helping" society is killing offending forces, just so YOUR people can be happy, and teaching people to conform to liars.
