Depends upon what kind of background you have. How educated your parents are and are from which region. Persecution is a very vague term. Care to detail what we are talking about?

Either way if parents are religious they may try to make you follow it t an extent be it an culture. Try to talk to them rationally and you can probably find a middle way where you can live your way and yet do not hurt their sensibilities too harshly.

I can't detail what I'm talking about because I don't know much about my parents' education, they went to college in India, that's all I know about that. To me, it seems like they've lost their hearts and their minds, to be mad at drawings just because they resemble the devil is ridiculous to me. I remember when my friend gave me his devil horns to wear for halloween, and my parents ripped it off my hand, gave it back to my friend, and they said something along the lines of, "No thank you, he doesn't want to wear that, he'll be staying in tonight." I still can't get that memory out of my head. What I meant by persecution is my parents talking down to Indian atheist such as myself and other Indians.

Yo, so why should I listen to my parents? Usually when we're in an argument, and I tell them to F off, they tell me to listen to them and do as they say because they're my parents. They make obedience sound like a good thing. It makes no sense whatsoever. I'm from America, and America wouldn't even be what it is today if it wasn't for people rebelling aka disobeying King George aka Britain's rule. Disobedience is a very good thing, it shows you're independent and can fend for yourself. Did you know that the number 1 thing people regret when they die is letting people, including their parents, make their decisions?

No matter what any half-baked Sociologist or Psychologist states, ***'s primary function is procreation. If you cannot fend for your brood, you should stick it back in. It's just that simple.

Many teenagers these days don't know the gravity of the situation. Abortion is a delicate matter. Many families do not support it because it some how defiles the sanctity of life. There is no such thing as 100% fail-safe contraceptives. If a child is born, then he ends up in foster homes. I don't understand how people are so obsessed with *** and don't value this important factor it.

I would side with your parents on this front. 30 is extreme, but, you should abstain till you are able to care for yourself and earn to a degree that if such a thing occurs, you can at least provide for your family. Now, as far as college is concerned, then perhaps your parents do not have the money? Maybe you should have a talk. If they don't have the money, how can they send you to a good college?

What about you working part time to raise money for your own college tuition? There are several things to be considered here. Don't act so disrespectful.

Although my parents aren't much better. Even though I am Australian, my background(aka my parents) are from sri lanka, and whilst they said that I could end up with who ever I want, the really want me to marry someone with the same background, and whilst my dad said it's "my choice", whenever I make a choice that he disagrees with, he goes ballistic.(which is hypocritical.)

I think this might be generalizing a bit. Don't get me wrong, I know that a lot of people in those areas are complete pricks, but as someone of Pakistani decent, I know that not everyone in Pakistan is like that. Some places over there are decent, and some are absolutely awful. My mother's parents are two of the nicest people I've met and they were born and raised in Pakistan. My father was also born in Pakistan and he's a pretty cool guy. I would never want to visit the place myself, but I don't think it's right to say that the entire place is festering with paedophiles and organ traffickers.

Yes, I know similar feels, except my parents are trying to force me to marry foreign chicks. I'd sleep with chicks fresh from India, but as for marrying? Nope. I'm wondering if I should just cut contact with my parents for good, I want them to learn from my life, but I've been trying for years and it's not working out. I wonder if they are going though cultural identity crisis and cannot decide how much to change and what to retain. Punjab area in general is quite confusing. They can be so dynamic at some points and at some other quite rigid.

The Punjab area is infested with hypocrisy, ignorance, arrogance, and contradictions to me. I don't think that area can be made sense of, it hurts my heart knowing more people like my parents and even worse run their mouths spewing their ignorance. I'd say you did I think lots of Americans and other prudes around the world care too much about what other people do in their bedrooms. Honestly it depend on what they are forcing you to do ,but if you are doing this because you think disrespecting them and "doesn't listen" makes you cool . It doesn't.

They are the reason you are in this world ,you should be thankful.
Did they raise you ?
Did they spend money and worked hard for you ?
Do you live in their house ?
If that so ,then you should at least respect them by obeying their house rules .
