Why should I listen to my parents?

Damn, that was inspiring or something, made me feel tingly. Thanks man, this whole thread was made because I either want to join the army, go to university, become a professional cyclist or learn a trade and become an electrician or plumber. They think i'll die doing any of those things just because they heard of people dying doing those things on the news.

Try to take into account what you're parents say. Even if they're wrong, just try to please them and go along with what they say if it's something important. Everyone gets angry at their parents at some point, but they only want what's best for you and swearing at them will only hurt their feelings. If what they're saying is completely ridiculous, gently tell then why they're wrong don't make the situation a big deal. If they're being completely unreasonable, that's when you put your foot down but don't do anything drastic. Remember though, your parents are probably right more often than you realise.

IMO you're a spoiled brat, telling your parents to F off, that's the most unrespectful thing you can do, my parents would give me a pedagogical tap, and I'm thankful for that, because of the hits I received (for my sake) I'm polite and respectful.

Go to your parents and tell them you're sorry, they're the ones that worn you after all, it doesn't matter what they say they stay your parents.

That being said; it's great that you already know what you'd like to do after college though, you have to respect your parents as well no matter what.

I'll try to be respectful when it comes to speaking to them, it's just difficult when they want me to be super religious and eat butter chicken and curry, and not smash bishes, and not skate, not bball, not join the army, not go to college far away, etc.

I am an atheist, I don't know how I am though, considering how much family and so called "friends" have pushed their sikhism on me. I might make a separate thread about Atheism, anyways I rebel because my parents want to be a stereotypical Indian sikh. I'm not though, and I never have been.

You're not alone. Everyone near that age faces a similar problem. Your parents are in a transitional period. They don't want to loose you, but at the same time, you need to be let go and deep down, they want that too. I'd make some sort of compromise and/or have a really big talk about it. That should work. If not, you'll have to follow your heart. Tell them your dreams and aspirations. If they don't see it after you explain a plan or something, you might have to just leave. If they want you to college, I suggest ease it in. Do 2 years at a college close to home and slowly go away to the one you want to do. It gets harder if you want to join the army because you could die, but at the same time, you could die everyday. Just try to ease it all in and remember, you have your entire life ahead of you. Get moving, follow your heart, but take somewhat slow or slow enough for your parents to let you go.
