Why do people assume that if you read a manga you have to like the MC?

What do you think about this?

Yeah I was being sarcastic. I hate to see how mad some people got though :( :( :(

Disliking the main char, as others have said, WILL make the manga much less enjoyable though. That's pretty much a fact. It's one thing to not care about him but if you dislike him then yeah, you're in for one abstract ride.

well sasuke is my fave so i still enjoy the manga even though i dont like naruto.

Naruto gets the most screen time, if you hate him you won't be able to enjoy the series as much.

Just my opinion.

That really isn't true. I used to hate Naruto and Sakura so much for the entirety of Part 1. I still watched and read it cos there's more to Naruto than just the main character. That is ridiculously shallow. I despised Sasuke for most of Shippuden, I still sat there and read and watched through it because there are other amazing aspects and characters within the story that I can enjoy. It's not just Naruto sitting there, talking to himself; he is always interacting with others and an amazing storyline. Some people read or watch an anime just for the friggin art. No-one should presuppose what a fan reads or watches an anime or reads a manga for

Actually Naruto in part 1 was godlike, Naruto as a character was very likable unlike in Shippuden especially this War arc.

The only reason why I still read Naruto was because I still like Kaguya, Black Zetsu, Hinata, Tobirama, Gai, Neji, Lee, Kabuto, Orochimaru and most of the Akatsuki member. Sasuke even gain some of my respect recently, so I'm starting to enjoy his character. Other than that, screw Naruto :p

I disliked Naruto at Part one as he was extremely annoying. Since he has matured in part two I am rather indifferent towards him.

Either way I only read this manga because of Lord Sasuke.

Naruto is a pretty simple character when you get down to it. MC's don't get much love in most stories anyway, most people go for the anti-hero's/villains.

I sorta sympathize with that. There are only a few "good guys," that I actually enjoy in fiction.

Depends which manga you're reading. If it's one that overtly revolves around the main character eg. Yugi in yugioh, then I'd imagine it would be less exciting. If it's naruto, then you can get away with not liking either naruto/sasuke since they are main characters and rivals.

The fact that you don't like naruto and have stayed with this manga should answer your question. Anyone that thinks otherwise can go buy some ointment for their butthurt.

Because most of the plot revolves around the MC. So why would you spend your time watching/reading it if you hate the protagonist?

Oh my goodness.

If you don't like the MC you shouldn't be reading the manga

OMG! You don't need to like a main character to like a story! Consider those stories about complex characters that are still interesting. People watch/read those stories because the character is interesting, not because they like them necessarily. Sometimes, there can be a story with no likeable characters and people are still reading/watching cos the plot is so complex, and you have forums like these where people can moan about those characters doing that thing they don't like. It actually helps the thing sell!

I've hated every single one of the main characters and still stuck around because the plot was friggin amazing, the fight scenes were awesome, the hate/love-triangle between the characters was different, new and interesting, and the mysteries in the series were attractive. You don't have to like the MC to like the story revolving around the MC. Think Death Note, where some people are Pro-L and Anti-Kira from the very beginning

There is more to this manga than Naruto Uzumaki. I want to know how Sasuke will end up. I want to know if all the villages will unite and become one. I want to know if Sasuke will lead his own new Uchiha clan. I want to know how the outbreak of the Naruto and Sasuke battle will commence. I want to know if Sakura will end up with Naruto or just by some stupid reason she ends up with Sasuke. I want to know if the Bijuu's will be destroyed or saved. I want to know how Hashirama was killed. I want to know if Obito will live or die in the end. I want to know if Sasuke will go back to the leaf or go his own separate path. I want to know if Madara will come back. I want to know about the different clans and how they originated. I want to know who Hamura is. I want to know if Kaguya is an alien or not.

There is more to this manga than Naruto Uzumaki. I can use plenty of examples from Bleach and One Piece.

Yes. Like how people are pro-sasuke and anti-naruto. But in this situation for me, not liking naruto or sasuke is like watching a sports match without taking sides.

Part 1 Naruto was mostly about Naruto until Itachi's arrival.

Still, everyone equally gets almost the amount of screen time while in shippuden almost almost everyone especially the Konoha11 gets neglected

Well if you don't like the MC and the entire series is based around the MC, the series won't be as enjoyable. Then again, I hated Jason from Far cry 3 but loved the game.

Because they're stupid and don't realise that there are other protagonists out there, not just the main one.

It's not a requirement to begin with. So that logic doesn't even make sense for me.
