Why are Madara and Izuna considered the first to get the mangekyou sharingan?

I feel you, but in the manga they referred to themselves as "clan" too. But that could've been a translation error or something. I think I remember now Madara being called the founder of the clan but I'm not sure what that's about

EDIT: My bad I didn't see your other post about rereading the manga
No, I recall the Uchiha and Senju clans both being established while their fathers were the head of their clan as I believe Hashirama referred to the opposing clan as the Uchiha, so you're correct.

I swear I read that Madara was the founder of their clan, but I guess not.

They're not. Madara was the first one to awaken the Mangekyo within the Uchiha Clan which Madara created. Before then, there was no Uchiha clan, so any other Uchihas that did awaken the Mangekyo before the establishment of the Uchiha Clan is irrelevant.

Since Indra wasn't a part of the Uchiha Clan, then he wasn't even considered in that statement.
He didn't create it, having a tablet that dates from the Sage's time suggests Indra's descendants were always a clan, he and Izuna were considered the first because no one else of their era had seen one due to its rarity, that doesn't mean they were literally the first ones to awaken it.

Madara did not create the uchiha clan. This is seen when we see the uchiha and senju clash when madara was a child

Uchiha clan long exist before Madara even born. What he create was Konoha with Hashirama.

That SenseiSama dude sure have an issue to agree/likes two posts that contrast/disagree with each other.

When we were calling Indra as Uchiha ancestor, he was not believed to have had sharingan, he had some thing else which mutated into Sharingan. Later story introduced new stuff and changed it.
