They don't need to land a hit. Hiruzen appparently can use genjutsu so that's enough to crap on Minato.

He has never shown one though, besides having a high stat in the databooks or being master doesn't necessarily mean using them, it can be recognizing one and the ability to dispel it, like Might Gai for an example, he has 3 in the databooks, most probably due to the fact he could dispel Kabuto's genjutsu.

her Toxic (since you want to call it that) gas works best in a closed room and even as awesome as you say it is we've only seen it bruise weak sasuke, she almost got her ass handed to her by black zetsu.

Lava and working with limited chakara runs that bitch dry after a few times.

Tsunade tanked susano swords, still went on i doubt getting burnt from a gas will bother her that much, facts are facts mei cant stand against Tsunades stamina and experience or jutsu with hers.

Everyone else acknowledges this even those that don't like Tsunade.

Me making a mistake about a jutsu has nothing to do with anything else other than the fact i don't know chemistry.

Nah not referring to the anime, and yes i think she endured more during the madara fight, theres no fact mei can land lava release on her and continuously at that.
