Its not a battle of who's stronger... Its about who did more for Konoha. So it doesn't matter if he had Tobi's help. Minato had Kushina's help holding down the 9-tails if that makes you feel a certain way.

He still took part in it, but if it helps I think Danzo and the elders are equally culpable. I like Itachi and think his intentions are good but that night caused more harm than it solved in the long run

Itachi sacrificed not only his loved once (something no other previous hokage have done), but also sacrificed himself. Instead of being acknowledged, was put in the bingo book instead to be hunted down and killed.

Itachi did sacrificed his clan for the village but did Itachi really love his clan? I remember Sasuke's flashback of Itachi talking bad about his clan to the other Uchihas who questioned him bout Shisui's death. Itachi grew up around death and fighting that made him dislike his clan for wanting to start a civil war. Everything Itachi did can be said to be for Sasuke's sake instead of the village, even tho he did it for both of them. Itachi actually hurted the village by making Sasuke hate him, Sasuke became a major criminal who only Naruto doesn't want dead. It would have been better if Itachi trained Sasuke himself if he wanted Sasuke to be strong. Itachi did everything so Sasuke would be regarded as a hero in Konoha but Sasuke went against that, Itachi only left the village so the Uchiha's name wouldn't be tarnished but that's what Sasuke is doing. Itachi started to help the village when he graduated the academy at 7 and died at 21 or 22, he was leader of the anbu black ops and did a lot. He prevent a civil war.

Minato graduated the academy at 10 and was trained by Jiraiya. Minato trained Kakashi and had Naruto who both would do alot for Konoha. In the 3rd Great Shinobi War Minato played a huge part in defeating the enemy's platoons, he was feared by the enemy and "flee onsight" orders were given when they saw Minato. Minato save Kushina, Konoha's Jinchuuriki and prevented the cloud from gaining another tailed beast (cloud had 2 already). Minato stopped Tobi and released the fox from his control, then saved Hiruzen and other ninjas from being killed from the tailed beast bomb. Minato sacrificed his soul to seal Kurama's yang chakra into Naruto (making sure Konoha has a Jinchuuriki to have balance power with the other nations and gave Naruto the power to protect Konoha and the ninja world from Tobi), sealed his and Kushina's chakra into Naruto to help him with the fox (saving Konoha from the fox being reborn and helped Naruto gain the power to turn the tide of the war into the alliance favor). Minato left a key to help reseal Naruto's seal which helped Naruto gain the fox powers that aid him in the war and the rasengan that allowed both Jiraiya and Naruto to kill many enemies of Konoha.

if the uchiha wasn't stopped i believe there will still be alot of survival afterall they are just plotting to start a war to take over the hidden leaf power. But minato stop tobi who is willing to destroy all the whole konoha plus the world with the kyuubi power.

but that all back fired on him sasuke is a bigger problem now? and what about the uchia children ? the non sharigan users? the elderly? they deserved to do it and you dont always have to kill someone like you how you stated with the example of minato their are other options sometimes.

Sasuke will never be a mistake in my mind. Similarly we shouldnt judge itachi based on sasuke, i dont believe thats fair. About the uchiha, he had two options, either join his clan or slaughter them. The fact that he didnt complete his mission (not killing sasuke) and begged the 3rd to take care of sasuke hints that the elders wanted him to kill every one of his clansmen. This is something you have to take up on the elders and not itachi.

If you were to look at it itachi killed few (his clan) and stopped a possible 4th ninja war, whilst minato slaughtered many and the only lives his saved was konoha's. Both are to be respected, but if we were to go by sacrifice/who did more, its clear as day who takes the cake.

Lets not forget that, minato atleast will be respected in the ninja world what what he has done, but also the statue. What does itachi get?

Itachi sacrificed more, he had to sacrifice his whole clan, his own image, and lead his brother down a dark path.

Minato did more though, if Tobi and the Kyuubi had been allowed to run unchecked there would be no more Konoha. those 2 tbbs alone would have wrecked the village. and he enabled Naruto to save the village again, and probably the world next.

minato stopped tobi and the fox from destroying the village completely and he sacrificed himself his wife and his new born son to keep it all safe after he died

all itachi did was kill his clan so they didnt take over the leaf wich would have made no difference if it was run by uchiha or senju and then lived his whole life for sasuke who is now gonna take out the leaf if it wast for the sacrifices minato made he would prolly succeed so in the end what did itachi really do

1.Minato Sacrificed more willingly (he chose to sacrifice his life and put the kyuubi in naruto for the future of konoha).

2.Itachi sacrificed more un-willingly(seeing as he did not want to kill his clan but was ordered to for the sake of the village).

As for the sasuke thing, it wasent his intention for sasuke to go back to killing every1 in the village that was tobi pushing sasuke to go kill them.
they both sacrificed alot but i would split it into those two catogories

The way Tobi talked about how much Itachi loved Sasuke, even beyond the village makes you think why Tobi never mention how much Itachi love his clanmen. Itachi only showed to care about Sasuke and Shisui in the manga, only during the time Tobi attacked the village did we see Itachi showed he cared for his parents. The difference between the Hokages killing their family from Itachi killing his is that none of the Hokage's family members had evil intentions towards others or the village unlike the Uchihas. All of the Hokage 's put the lifes of the villagers first and will protect them accordingly, examples are Hiruzen vs Orochimaru, Jiraiya vs Tsunade, Naruto vs Sasuke, Kakashi vs Sasuke. Orochimaru was Hiruzen's favorite student and couldn't kill him years ago but when Orochimaru attacked the village Hiruzen was set on killing him to protect the village. Jiraiya didn't fight Tsunade but he did threaten to kill her if she sided with Orochimaru,. we know Jiraiya loved Tsunade when they were talking before he went to spy on Pain and he said Tsunade turned him down in his flashback while he was dying. Naruto sees Sasuke as a brother and knows he have to kill him, he said they both will die but someone said Naruto means he will kill Sasuke and himself. Kakashi liked Sasuke the most in team 7 in part 1 but knows Sasuke have to be stopped. Yeah they are not related but we are talking about bonds here, two friends can have stronger bonds than family members. You have to remember that. Sasuke said he severed all of his bonds with Naruto, Sakura, ect.. except with Itachi, he was going to use that bond to further his goal in killin Itachi. Now the only really strong bonds we see Itachi have were with his parents (Tobi attack), Sasuke and Shisui, now isn't it possible that Itachi severed his bonds to hs whole clan except Sasuke? Itachi was cold to everybody in his clan in Sasuke's flashback except with Sasuke (at times). I know I said somethings about Itachi that I shouldn't in my last post but I'm also judging how his and Minato's actions also effected Konoha like who they trained or saved. What Minato did in the 3rd war was stop the rock ninjas from entering the fire nation's territory to attack Konoha and stop the fox and Tobi from destroying the village. Also it should be noted Minato choose to save Naruto over saving Kushina, he had to make the choice between two innocents and his love ones. The way I see it Minato left the Village in the hands of his student (Kakashi) and his son (Naruto) to protect. Itachi left the village in Sasuke's hand but Sasuke didn't carry out that role.

imho Minato, yeah Itachi was hated, but he lived for awhile even if it was brief, but it takes a lot of bawls to use the reaper death seal, and if I'm not mistaken, your soul remains trapped in the reaper death god for all eternity, it's like saving the world and being rewarded with a 1 way trip to hell, not to mention being impaled by the fox.
