What Madara REALLY said about Hashirama

Did he mean Hashirama is stronger than his current Edo form?

He didn't say can't because he's explaining to the Kages who was the only person who could beat him. Why would he say, "Hashirama can't beat me" when he's been beaten by him in the the past. He's saying could because it's past tense, because Hashi was the only one who could beat him before but not anymore.
If the bolded part were true, then he would have said "only Hashirama could ever stop me, but even he wont stand a chance against me now" or something along those lines. The fact that he says "but he's not here anymore" implies that if he was around, the outcome of the fight could be different.
You have to look at the whole sentence, not just one phrase.

Oh and I can use a dictionary too:

Could: Used to indicate ability or permission in the past.

Source?

So can we stop posting dictionary references?

You conveniently left out the fourth definition of your own link
4. (often foll by well) used as an auxiliary to indicate a possibility

You don't get it. The definitions contradict themselves which was why I said can we stop posting definitions. Could is still a past tense verb of can, and when do you use a past tense verb, when you're talking about the past.

True, which is why as I said before, you gotta read the whole sentence in order to understand it well.
Like I said, the fact that he says Hashirama is no longer with them instead of saying even Hashirama wont be able to stop him now suggests Hashirama could stop him even now.

Do you not see that they're contradicting themselves? Honestly I feel like I'm english class and you don't know what a past tense verb is.
you buddy already crawled away i siggest you do the same cuz you look foolish not being able to accept whats infront of you

could ( possible )

ever ( anytime )

you say its confusing but its not

only hashirama could ever beat me

hashirama possible anytime coud beat me and last time i check anytime ( ever ) includes now as he is talking unless your suggestime time stoped so anytime doesnt include now cuz time doesnt exist anymoe
