What is your current profession?

What do you do for a living and if anyone is interested in your professional occupation what advice would you give them?

(Student is not a profession so dont say "student")

During my 7 years of studying psychology i was working as a Human Resources assistant. After my 3rd year i was promoted to Human resources advisor. Early this year i recieved my doctorates in psychology. Although some would think i would be working as a clinical psychologist, ive come to love my position as a HR advisor.

Using my study of psychology has come of an amazing benefit in the position im in.

So my advice for anyone whos inrerested in HR;

1. Dont apply for the position if you care too much about how other people see you.
2. Must be able to take control of any given situation
3. Must have patience
4. Even though you are not of managerial position, management seeks your expertise on recruitment and employment evaluation. So its best you show a personality of confidence and determination.
5. This is the most common thing needed in every job but as a person in HR, you must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

So whats your profession?

You tell us not to say student, but you also ask what do we do for a living...But what if a student gets lots of scholarship, so then the person does make money out of studying...I don't know where are you from, but here PhD students can be on state scholarship which means they basically get a salary. So they are studying and researching for a living. Doesn't that count as a current profession?

What if a student has a part time job which requires no profession?

Did you mean profession or occupation too? (In which case student is obviously an occupation as well).

What if someone has a profession but is currently jobless?

See, at the same time you were:
-a student
-an assistant/advisor
-you could also be considered as a psychologist

So which do you consider your profession? o_O Do you define yourself as a HR advisor, or as a dr of psychology? Or maybe a dr of psychology who's working as a hr advisor? How would you define yourself if you had no job right now?

Using my study of psychology has come of an amazing benefit in the position im in.

So my advice for anyone whos inrerested in HR;

1. Dont apply for the position if you care too much about how other people see you.

Few weeks ago I read an article about giving advice for job seekers, and the people commenting under the article had a pretty bad view on HRs. They say HR is useless and they come off as cocky and bossy people. Is it true or it's just that butthurt people who didn't get the job, make stereotypes? (Do you also only spend a few seconds skimming through CVs? How much does appearance affect your decisions?)

Also, does this thread by any chance have an implication of being a test to see Nbers reactions?

OT: I'm a student and occasionally had part time jobs (summer jobs).

You tell us not to say student, but you also ask what do we do for a living.

I asked about your profession. Which defines someone who uses education, skill or training to be of service to others or an industry.

You can list student as an occupation as seen in job applications because its asking what you do that keeps you occupied during the day.

An intern can be seen as a profession as they are using their special education and training to be of service to others.

So dont mix up profession and occupation.

I was a student and i have a Psy.D degree. However my professional career is an advisor.

As fors people who dislike HR. Its because some feel they have a lot of power. Sure we are the disciplinarians of the company. We are basically the tattle tales of the work place and the ones who say, you can or cant do this.

However, some take it too far, dont build rapport with employees and are hated amongst colleagues.
