This is somethin I have been thinking off aside from the numerous theories about Tobi. Correct me if anything, I have been thinking about this.
Tobi at the kage summit, told about the ten tails and sage of the sixth paths story?
He said that only those with sharingan and rinnegan are able to read the stone tablet at wich the uchihas posesses.
A rinnegan bearer would be able to understand the whole tablet, about ten tails and sage og the six paths.
But a sharingan bearer would only understand some?
As Tobi currently wasn't a rinnegan bearer, how then is he able to know the whole story?
We saw edo Madara achieve the rinnegan, wich came as a big suprise, but he testified that it occured before his death against Hashirama.
So there would be no way he would have read the stone tablet, and informed Tobi about it.
Or maybe Tobi took Madaras rinnegan after he died and read the stone tablet, then took em off and put em on Nagato, sounds very unlikely to me.
The least we know this is all coming from Tobi, an untypical sharingan bearer, stockpilling sharingan eyes at his lab somewhere.
As he said at the kage sumit "I like to stockpile good eyes" refering to Sasuke, this gives me the impression that he is without respect to uchihas wich leds me to believe he isn't one either.
Also he has an active sharingan all time as Kakashi, wich further supports it.
At the fight against Konan I think, he states that he is the second sage of the six paths, and that Nagatos was the third, if this is to be true then it sounds to me as if Tobi has a long story, way back to Rikudos time.
The think is Tobi just knows too much about everything, he has shown that he is a mastermanipulator and without doubt the most ambitiouness, independent of time.
Even Minato took him very serious on hos words, he sacrified his life in thrust that his child was the child of proffecy, wich is destined to face of against Tobi.
This all has led me to believe, that Tobi is in fact one of the sons of sage of the six paths, none other than the younger son.

This all comes from the time Tobi spoke with Naruto where he told about the two brothers, and about the older brother getting mad because he wasn't chosen by Rikudo to led.
Tobi has stated that he is weak, that he lost his powers somehow?
This is what I think happened.
1.
The younger son was chosen to led by Rikudo, but the younger brother had evil intentions, he was a mastermanipulator that even fooled his father.
After the death of their father, the younger brother sought to reign under his definition of love wich was to control all people somehow.
This was the reason the older brother was mad that he was chosen, and he fought against him, and gave him severe damage so that he would lose most of his powers, and after that he himselft died, resulting in the younger getting obsessed with the powers of the uchihas.

The older brother was rightfully chosen to led, resulting in the younger brother after Rikudos death, to want the led. This would assume Tobi lied when he told Naruto that the younger was chosen, but we all know Tobi lies.
So the younger son sought to fight as to achieve all power, and he was in the fight damaged so severe that he lost most of his powers, by the older before he died.
The younger brother was evil to begin with.
Tob himself told the story about the two brothers, he said the younger brother believed in love, and the older in strenght.
Tobi is talking about love here!
he believes his solution the moon eye plan is the final solution, his definition of peace.
Also we have only seen the senju perform time space jutsu "second hokage" as Tobi seem to master, the senju.
The reason he lives this long is because he was blessed with the power of rikudos body, a very long lifespan, and given he was the very first senju also.
And if you look at the picture, the younger brother has the same hair as Tobi
and also the eyes look much alike.
