Strongest Hokage is the 3rd, Hiruzen Sarutobi

4th hokage was strong but he couldnt beat madara, while 1st did.

1st hokage> Madara uchiha>Minato namikaze

4th was fyting madara+kyubi+protecting kushina+protecting naruto+protecting konaha and we don't noe 100% if its madara (4th refered to him as masked akutski)

1st fought madara+kyubi..but all he had to do to tame the kyubi was put him in a cage wit his wood release, n i don't think madara had his space-time jutsu at the time

^^4th hokage agreed himself that madara's space time jutsu was better than his and 2nd hokage. He went one on one with madara (he left kushina and naruto at home). He was aware of madara's power that's why he sealed kyubi in naruto otherwise he could have finished madara himself if he could.

Ok first it is very hard to tell who is the strongest, especially because some may be stronger against some opponents while others might be weak against those types. So it ia all about who is fighting ho... and trust me everyone has a weakness.
I also remember reading in an interview that Kishi said that Minato was the strongest dead shinoby.
I see most people are forgetting the Second Hokage who was a water jutsu master (best water jutsu user ever) he also had a space-time jutsu and also he developed Edo Tensei.
The Hokage's strength should be measured by his capabilities to protect the village. And in this one i would go with Hashirama and Minato... i mean the Wood style is epic... and Minato was able to handle even a full powered tailed beast bomb... doubt even Wood element or anything could withstand it.

Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, was said to be the strongest Hokage in the village's history, as well as strongest of the Five Kage of his era.
Which during his era was, A the Raikage (Known for having chakra level comparable to that of a tailed beast and many argue to this day is the fastest ninja alive), Onoki the 3rd Tsuchikage (one of only 2 people that are known to have it and it's destruction Powers), Yagura the 4th Mizukage (the Sanbi Jinchuriki who is one of 4 people to be known for EVER being able to control a Tailed beast), and last but not least the 3rd Kazekage (a Iron Sand user and is hailed as the village's strongest Kazekage)

, they were hailed of being the "best shinobi", which in life is a step higher the "strongest" is it not? kishi has said bith, so you can either believe saru is the strongest or hashi is the best. it really doesnt matter. so just let it go....

well minato didnt handle a ttb, he teleported it away. it isnt the same as tanking one like you make it seem.. hashi's chakra was so huge that his wood would tame the kyubi with minimum effort it would seem. so if you want to compare a bijuu fight, there is no one who can defeat a bijuu better then true madara, tobi, or hashirama..

Thanks for telling me is was a fake, didn't know for sure.
And by handle i mean manage to do sth against it... yea Minato teleported it but he was able to do so and protected the village, what could any other hokage do against a tailed beast bomb? yea the first could tame the kiuby and restrain it but against the actually ttb his wood wouldn't stand a change.

And in the end it is all useless, we know nothing but stories about the Hokages... besides a fast fight from Minato and an old aged Sarutobi nothing much was shown of their abilities, so based only on the stories and on what characters in the manga say we don't know for sure.
Unless Kishi actually says that X character is the strongest we can not no for sure, not even characters words can be taken for granted as we have seen before.

we don't reali know how 'huge' hasi's chakra was...n i don't think 1st/tobi/madara can defeat the kyubi...senju can tame it while the sharingan can control it..id on't think thats the same as defeating..i dould be rong

doesn't make sense...but from what i think your trying to say...i don't think he would have been named hokage if he lacked experience...when the fox attacked the village evry1 was relying on him to deal with it..even the 3rd was useless

yes i'd say 3rd is the most knowledgeable (comes with age) but strength and knowledge is two diff things.

the only person that knew the capabilities of all the hokages is Jiraiya and this is what he said..."his(4th's) capabilities as a ninja were unrivaled in history..." Jiraiya ep90 of Naruto...so no the 3rd wasn't the strongest kage it was 4th

..i don't know what chap of the manga it would be from but i'd assume it will be there as well

I'm gonna make a point for this VS threads:
the beauty in the strongest chracters is that fame narrates them not facts from manga so we can make up our minds on it and choose who we think is the best
ever thought that even Kishi doesnt quite know who would be the best!

ye its fun to argue for your chosen characters sake but there should be a limit, once ppl get aggressive its just stupid

I chose Minato, my friend chose Hiruzen, some other guy will chose Hashirama

the point is don't get aggressive on such matters just enjoy the argument XD

+ the Manga contradicts itself at times so even many facts from the Manga arent all that valid
