keep in mind that shino is one of the ninja that NEVER lost a match as far we have seen. shino is also smarter than gaara and he is more strategic than gaara as well. gaara is more likely a brute force ninja that only seess......waving sands in the air is a perfect strategy.(not)
If Gaara's sand defense is impregnable to Shino's bugs, that way Gaara can pwn Shino.

keep in mind that unlike gaara shino is both very offensive and defensive at the same time. shino bugs also adopted to new jutsu that they have survived through. i doubt that gaara could leave a scratch on guren,who took on the e tails. even kakashi himself admits defeat to her and his only hopes was shino...
Great matchup, very weird too, I don't know how bugs versus sand will collide... I think it's interesting enough but I think Gaara will have the upper hand because sand is everywhere and bugs need to reach out somewhere first so I think Gaara has the advantage. It kind of depends where the fight is taking place as well...

be honest the day gaara lost his beast...was gaara ever seen as a great ninja again.No, in order for gaara to attack shino a piece of his sand must be detach to attack shino and i dont see the reason why reason why shino cant do the same trick as to what deidara did. also shino's bugs eat chakra as well just like kisame's sword.shino can easily suck the chakra out of gaara attackiing sand...like what the people did when they came after gaara(not the akatsuki). there were a man thaw fought gaara and his Armour absorb chakra the moment anything with comes intact with his suit it would suck the charaka dry. and gaara failed because the suit suck every chakra out and the sand became nothing but mud. (the last episode before naruto goes off with jiraiya). and it was the konoha ninjas that came to the rescue(naruto, rock lee, shikamary etc) and it was lee that came to gaara's aid to defeated the guy with the armour...why because lee didnt need chakra for his taijutsu's devastating attacks.
Although there's a question on the duration of shino's bugs sucking the chakra out of the sand techs. Idk how long does it take for shino's bugs to suck a tech's chakra, I'm thinking it'll take time to suck everything out of it, and a counterattack may transpire if so.
If several counterattacks transpire, then Shino may have a hard time catching up not unless he has the speed.
Hmmm... maybe for an ordinary ninja who has much lower stamina, Shino could easily lock the target out, but Gaara is no ordinary ninja (for me) even sans the one tailed beast. TBH, I haven't seen Shino fighting an awesome ninja yet, say, even at par on his level so I can't really tell on what extent the bugs can perform.
I also found out that bugs need to entirely catch the target first without escaping, so he can only take advantage of such tech if Gaara cannot escape so.
One thing that bothers me is: Can the bugs consume a tech's chakra or not? I have only seen bugs consuming a person's chakra. Though both have chakra, it may be possible that bugs selectively consumes chakra. There's still a lot of question behind those bugs that bugs me.
ddint you see when shino demolish guren, the crystal user that i highly doubt that gaara could defeat. the fight with shino and kancoro(gaara's brother)he asked shino "how did you stop my puppets from obeying my control ' shino said "my bugs can suck chakra from anything that uses chakra.
