Alright, I have quite some things to say about this new game after skimming through your conversations above.
I got to admit I was extremely impressed by the improvement of the graphics and how the battle moves are much more explicit and interesting than before. Also, the Pokemon constantly move in the battle, which also makes it seem more realistic. (I'm hoping they add more aspects to this, such as facial expressions or more bodily motions. But I guess what they have right now is much more better than I'll ever expect on DS graphics, and I'm grateful enough.)
I have to admit though, while the storyline is excellent with a bit of weird concepts and twist (I mean, taking Pokemon away from trainers, yet you're using them yourself? Honestly? A bit weird, but unique), however, the originality kind of fails, and along with this, comes some fail naming.
I mean, Krookodile? I don't even know how to pronounce that. And Vanilluxe? Serperior? I almost found myself wincing at the sheer lameness of those names. Good thing the legendaries don't let you down.
The Elite Four layout was pretty decent and interesting, I have to admit.

As for characters in general.
Quite obviously, you can see I've taking a bit of liking for Cheren, and no, not because of looks, but because of his deep character arc in the story. Yes, my favorite thing about most games is definitely the story line (not to mention the music...still listening to Victini's battle theme, Team Plasma's and N's...all as epic as the other), and seldom anything else. I simply don't understand why everyone is cooing over N...just because he looks cool? Rather shallow, if you ask me. I don't want to go on...but the fact that personal connections are now rather unappreciated as a part of literature.

As for the game, I finished it in less two days, yes, with all-nighters, just because it was epic like that. Great graphics, excellent storyline, a bit of fail with originality...
Kind of don't know what to do after beating the game, quite frankly speaking.

If you're referring to N, they're just pokemon that he uses for that battle and that battle only, thats why you don't see the same pokemon twice in his party throughout the game, [excluding klank.]
Why N is cool?
N, was raised by his father [who he doesn't know is actually Ghetsis,] with injured pokemon always around so he was tricked into thinking that trainers mistreat their pokemon, thus he wants to HELP Ghetsis 'liberate the pokemon.' Ghetsis is actually using his son to be a weapon. And apparently you learn from a battle that Ghetsis has tried manipulating the human heart to his will.

N. is your antagonist throughout the game but his values and ideals are thousands of times more pure than yours that YOU may even be the antagonist in this plot.
N. can also talk to pokemon which is shown in the manga before the games came out. :]

"The Pokédex, eh? So... You're going to confine many, many Pokémon in Poké Balls for that, then. I'm a Trainer, too, but I can't help wondering... Are Pokémon really happy that way?"

"As long as Pokémon are confined in Poké Balls... Pokémon will never become perfect beings. I have to change the world for Pokémon, because they're my friends."

"Chargestone Cave... I like this place. Formulas express electricity and its connection to Pokémon... If people did not exist, this would be an ideal place. You have been chosen, you know. Does it surprise you I said that?"

"Many different values mix together, and the world becomes gray... That is unforgivable! I will separate Pokémon and people, and black and white will be clearly distinct! Only then will Pokémon become perfect beings! Yes, that is my dream! That is the dream I must fulfill! <player>, do you have a dream of your own?"

"They may say it is for understanding one another better, but what Trainers really use battles for is to compete... And they hurt each other's Pokémon! Am I the only one who finds this terribly painful?"

"My vision is to change the world without using force. Trying to change the world by force will just make others resist. If people resist, the ones that will be hurt are the innocent Pokémon used by foolish Trainers. You understand. Pokémon are not just tools for people to use!"

______________
Some cool N. facts! ^___^

N uses 15 of the 17 types of Pokemon, only not using Pokémon of the Poison and Ghost types. Ironically, Poison-type Pokémon are often used by members of villainous teams.
The cube hanging off of N's belt is the first iteration of a Menger sponge, a geometric figure that simultaneously has infinite surface area and zero volume.

Yeah I copy pasted i got lazy, at least these are the reasons why he is one of my favorite characters in the pokemon universe.
