By that way most of those historical figures will be forgotten after some centuries.Without texts only way to propagate information is through stories,to remember is through landmarks as generation goes people will forget things.Land marks wont stay same either.stories will get head and tails and they will become legends.May be they will remember people like Hitler.They will be like "Man, My grandpa used to say that there was a guy called Hitler in Germany who killed many Jews."Just think how much about history you learned from your parents or people,It is just a little things about your place nothing more.Only thing people pass to next generation is religious stuff so only things about religion and Gods and myths will be remembered.

It varies. I think the people who will get remembered are religious people like Jesus and Buddha. Maybe historically important people like George Washington, Kings and others. It varies in different places. BTW I don't think people are going to remember Socrates, Ceaser, Michealangelo if all records are not lost I may be wrong.

Yeah I agree. As for the philosophers, I believe since their names have survived this long after the fall of Greece, that their names will remain in history forever.

Just about every intellectual or philosopher owes his roots to the concepts they have established.

Philosophy is something that will always exist in any society. People will look back in order to move forward.

It's all subjective and would alter from culture to culture. For example Julius Caesar and even Alexander the Great, along with Bonaparte would be remembered by most militaries , as their military tactics - especially Caesar's - that are still studied by militaries today. People in music would never forget the names of Beethoven or Mozart, but then again, other cultures have other prominent musicians.

In terms of political based history, I don't think the whole world needs to know George Washington, as his importance lies with the people of America. In Pakistan for example, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Alama Iqbal are remembered with respect - not sure about this generation of miscreants though.

By and by, it's a subjective list and is solely dependent upon culture, philosophy, school of thought, and individual perspective as society and individual are two different things. Personally, I don't care about religious figures, so Rumi holds a lot of value for me for his quest for Reality and Truth.
