If you were actually caught up, you would see that the OP storyline is more straightforward and balanced than the Naruto storyline.

i mean i watch this anime i then learn there is a rubber fruit which a character ate and is now elastic and all stretchy names like captain buggy i mean wth what do people see in such anime

One Piece is no where near naruto
1) If you haven't read and/or seen all the chapters and episodes, you have absolutely no right whatsoever to say something like that as that means you're completely ignorant whatsoever or how else would you call yourself? I mean what you're doing is no different then criticizing a football match you didn't even see. How can you say that OP is nowhere near Naruto if your knowledge about OP is zero? Only ignorant and arrogant people do that. You don't even know the name of the main character apparently =/

2) OP has some childish aspects, however by no means it's just "childish". My Little Ponies and Diego are childish, OP isn't. The theme's it has are way more mature than Naruto. Yes in terms of logical reasoning OP is a bit childish as in Naruto things like using fire are explained by an entire chakra mechanism. In OP you can be fire itself by just eating a certain fruit and in OP some people survive even extremely weird and fatal injuries without a real explanation like having a steering wheel stuck in your head. But you know what, that childish aspect isn't bad, it's part of OP's charm, it's one of the reasons it's so popular. If you actually don't like that, it means you're really boring with an imagination that's as dry as a cucumber in the Sahara desert. As placing aside that childish aspect, the theme's OP has are way more mature and recognizable than any Naruto theme.

For example an important theme in the current arc goes is racism, even though it's by showing a completely fictional type of racism, it's very easy to draw a parallel with real racism. On top of that it's shown in a way it's enjoyable to read and not like some grown up boring moral lesson. Other theme's have been human slavery, clear social differences. It's actually way more mature in that aspect than Naruto as Naruto simply doesn't have such mature theme's outside universal things that have been chewed on countless of times.

3) What we see in it? It's overall seen just way better than Naruto

- Extremely detailed. Not only just in the artwork, but also in the background and development of characters. I mean even minor characters get a certain amount of attention. In Naruto you see continuously new ninja in the current war, however a quick snapshot is the only thing they will ever get. While in OP, even if they don't say a word, you see the same character appearing on several occasions, which makes it way more realistic. Also characters that once had an important role and seemingly disappeared, suddenly come back in a new context, making the character look different.

- It really looks like Oda knew exactly how he wanted his story, even though there have been moment he actually just came up with ideas in the middle of the story, he writes OP like he really knows what he wants. The current arc is related to one of the oldest OP arcs from around 500 chapters ago and they perfectly fit. Not a single contradiction, unlike Naruto. He can also give an enormous amount of information in one chapter about different characters. At a certain point he was following around 20 characters on different places at the same time and still the story progressed.

- Oda can even kill characters of which you would curse anyone who would dare to kill him and can get away with it, making it perfectly acceptable. That's something not much mangaka's can.

- Unlike Naruto, OP really doesn't have much haters. There are continuously people who follow Naruto, but hate that character or are complaining about that event...that rarely happens with OP. There are always people who are not satisfied with something, but rarely actually haters.

- Oda can fit an extremely large amount of action in one chapter.

- His characters are all clearly unique.

- Not much fillers in the anime.

- Oda succeeded in a really good "power gauge", something where most people fail due to what I call the DBZ-effect. In DBZ Goku can barely beat Raditz, his power lvl is actually extremely low (only a few hundreds and that after fighting all this life). At the end of DBZ it was somewhere in the billions. Oda made it so that Luffy isn't OP and that he just doesn't win everything. He made it perfectly clear that one character can clearly defeat another character and that character then can beat a character that beat the first character. As a result it's easier to create VS threads in OP than it ever will be in Naruto.

It looks childish. I started watching it, but it has no plot development or anything. All the episodes are just random, wtf, jumbled together. I know everyone says OP is amazing, I just haven't seen it yet.
They aren't. The plot is develops in the least as much as in Naruto and the episodes in Naruto are way more random than in OP, which is clearly proven that even the oldest of arcs can suddenly play again a major role in the most recent one.

I know that the first chapters/episodes might seem childish and not appealing, but that's with a lot of manga's, including Naruto. Mangaka's evolve and so does their artwork. I was already caught soon by the character Roronoa Zoro and I really got caught by the story itself starting from the Barati arc.

maybe thats the problem about op, is that you have to get in the middle just to enjoy it, as soon as i watched naruto i was hooked, and it was a manga, kakashi vs zabuzu, i was like 14, then i watched the when they became team 7, the naruto story is pretty good in my opinion, i see nothing wrong but the many fillers,
You don't have to get into the middle, you only need to get passed the first few chapters/episodes.

i will give it a shot, it just annoys me that he ate a fruit to get his power, but ill watch it one episode at a time, but im always put naruto on number 1, and bleach i also like fullmetal as you can tell, but ill see if i can throw op up there

what you think about bleach?

lol i hope he knows raseangan

but those sales are through the rough, but people have to admit, naruto is a good series to keep up with, but i cant hate on op, because real talk luffy is bad azz :|
What's wrong with eating a fruit and gaining its power? yes it seems childish, but if you read the entire manga it's really something very clever. On top of that it's no different then getting a KG. Especially because you still need to learn to use the fruit. Once again after 580 chapters we suddenly saw that Luffy had done years of training to actually use his fruit, while originally it was even mocked as being utterly useless. You also don't know how two DF actually mix up.

naruto ranks #1 in the world dont it anyway "one pice of shit" is a retard show just looks to dum 2 me some of the charaters in the show just look stupid.
Well if you didn't read it, it means by default you're extremely ignorant as how can you formulate such an opinion if you don't know what you're talking about? You just based that on seeing a few pictures? Now that's just childish, so it's really surprising that you wouldn't like OP.

Read it. If you then still hate it, say it again by stating real arguments and not just some empty, mindless fodder.

You sure get serious when you're arguing Calixd
Either way, it is probably as you say about them knowing little about OP, because they most likely haven't watched/read more than an episode/chapter.

I liked Naruto but I have to agree with Caliburn, One Piece is more realistic and has a better story than Naruto. For example both mangas did the 2 year time-skip, Naruto only learned Odama Rasengan while Luffy learned the basics of the 3 Haki (Kenbunshoku Haki, Busoshoku Haki and Haoshoku Haki), reinforced the moves he already has with same Haki and brand new techniques (Gomu Gomu no Snake Shot, Gomu Gomu no Red Hawk, Gomu Gomu no Elephant Gun and Gomu Gomu no Elephant Gatling).

For people who read and watch both manga and anime, you have to admit One Piece is better and you also realize all the faults Naruto has. It is only about fights and it doesn't matter how or why they are there, once this person is fighting that person that is somehow all that matters.

give me the news wer it says one piece is greater than naruto
You must be thinking about popularity, because we're talking about rating, and One Piece has far better rating than Naruto.

Rebecca Black, as a singer has a lot of views on Youtube, but if you look at the ratings of her videos, they suck, which means that even if a lot of people has actually watched her video, doesn't mean that they enjoyed it as much as another video which has much better rating, but far less people have watched.

Rating is what determines if a manga or anime is great, not the popularity. Popularity only says how many people watch it, not how many people enjoy it.

Take Japan, the source of all manga and anime, not only does One Piece have better ratings than Naruto there, but it has 5 times more sales.
"Since 2010 One piece has sold 54.8 million copies out of its total of around 240 million copies. This amounted to more than number 2 Naruto, number 3 Kimi ni Todoke, number 4 Fairy Tail, number 5 Bleach, number 6 Bakuman, number 7 Gintama and number 8 Fullmetal Alchemist combined."

"Since its release, One Piece has become the most popular manga series of all time in Japan and one of the most popular manga series worldwide. It is the highest-selling manga of all time in the history of Weekly Shōnen Jump, as well as currently being its most acclaimed manga.[1] In 2010, Shueisha announced that they sold over 230 million volumes of One Piece manga so far; volume 61 set a new record for the highest initial print run of any book in Japan in history with 3.8 million copies (the previous record belonging to volume 60 with 3.4 million copies). Volume 60 is the first book to sell over two million copies in its opening week on Japan's Oricon book rankings"

Sales and rating is what matters, popularity don't mean shit.
And thus: One Piece is greater than Naruto.

And for the question if OP is childish; No.
You can compare it to Minecraft, it's a new game, yet the graphics is from 1980 and look very childish, but its a hell of a game.
Don't judge a book by its cover is the perfect thing to say right here. You watched what, 1-2 episodes.. out of 521... It's like reading the first page of the book and deciding that its crap.

Not to mention that it only takes 1-2 years to write a book, while this series has been going on since 1997. Even before most of you kids were born... It has only improved from day one.

aint naruto fault one piece be making thoes stupid looking people..thats 1 reason i stop watching an he aint never gone reach that dam island he trying to get to.seeing zoro fight is the only way i can watch that show.u kno wat ima give it another try it probly wont last long 4 me though.
People only whine about the animation in the beginning like you are now.
What island are you referring to? Unlike Naruto, Luffy has already accomplished most of the things he needed to.
Its also funny how you couldn't even back up what I said about Naruto because you know its true.

Thank you Cali and Mugi for teaching these children a lesson.

Never gonna reach the island? How would you know, you're not the mangaka..
At least you can see that he is progressing towards it(or you could, if you had actually watched/read the anime/manga), unlike Naruto who has done so many circles around his goal that he has lost track of it.
Luffys goal always remains the same: Pirate King
Naruto goal: First he wanna be Hokage, then he doesn't feel like being Hokage because he cannot even save a friend, then he surpassed the Kages, and now I don't even know what he wants. But its more likely that Luffy will reach his goal rather than Naruto reaching his.. he has lost sight of his own goal..

You think they are equally good, and you've only watched 93 episodes. We'll see how your opinion changes when you catch up to the current episode:p :p

93 episodes of One Piece equally good to 470 + episodes of Naruto ^^
100 + episodes of One Piece >>> 470 + episodes of Naruto.

As I did. I used to whine and say the same things these fools used to say.
Then I decided to stop making myself look stupid and actually watch the show to see what all the fuss was about, and it became my favorite, just like how it became the favorite anime of other members here who once said they wouldn't watch it.
Two of these people who were complaining made a failed attempt to negatively rep me after I brought out that comparison board and put them in their place >.>

lol Cali on fire xd
It's in my nature. I'm a relativist so I believe people can have complete opposite opinions. What is good for one person, is bad for another. I accept that, I can believe very well that there are people who don't like or even hate OP. However it annoys me when people voice their opinion about something while they know nothing about it. That's just plain ignorance and arrogance.

I read both OP as Naruto each week, I like them both. But taking all aspects into account I find OP better than Naruto. That's my opinion and I fully accept that there are people who have different opinions. But what I don't accept is that they are crapping on OP and say that Naruto is better while they have never read OP. How can you voice an opinion about something you don't know? That's like writing a review about a book, a movie or a football match you didn't read nor saw. You haven't a clue what you're talking about, but still you're saying it sucks. I just hate such an attitude.

Only people who are arrogant or ignorant do things like that.

I liked Naruto but I have to agree with Caliburn, One Piece is more realistic and has a better story than Naruto. yeah, I'm planning to make a comparison someday between the four major timeskips of Naruto, OP, FT and Bleach :p

The order would be IMO:

1: OP
2: FT (not kidding)
3: Naruto
4: Bleach

One Piece rock hard, and it's NOT childish. The only thing that's childish is Luffy (sometimes xd), but Naruto was like that to.

The Rubber fruit? Well, because of that Rubber fruit Luffy defeated God O_O

In support of Mugiwara's arguments:

Actual proof that OP deserves it's popularity, and that it's not just some kind of internet Youtube star like Rebecca Black or Justin Bieber.

EDIT: During 2008, take note that the top selling manga volume was OP's Skypeia Arc, lots more than Enies Lobby. Take note which arc running RIGHT NOW is similar to Skypeia.

I was inactive for a while to catch up. I started from the Romance Dawn.
I was skeptical at first, but then as I kept reading it just flowed and never stopped.
Originality, Simplicity, and Substance. It holds on to these 3 things and expands on them.
Childish? Nowhere near the childish feats of Naruto.
OP also has stories on the first page of every chapter.
