AS a whole generation the current is better, they have more powerful or above average shinobi now than it was then, from hashirama's generation, there was only madara and tobirama and izuna that were powerful enough to be known I can name more than 4 shinobi from the current generation that are powerful enough to be known and that would crush the average senju or uchiha of that generation. The current generation is super saturated with talent. Saying Hashirama's or Kakashi's generation was better is just ridiculousness. There is less than 10 descent or better shinobi from hashirama's era that we know of and only powerful shinobi are known in the " Naruto " series when going back in history. The same goes for kakashi's generation. Match any kid version of the previous generation with the current generation kid selves.

That's my point. Kakashi was progressed through the ranks so fast because the level of competition back then was so damn low. Check this out, if the rank acually makes a difference then this will discount all your kid ranking up shit. When neji was only showing a portion of his skills vs hinata, lee said " I have on my team the most powerful genin to ever come out of the leaf " no one contested that not even gai who was both of their sensei or kakashi who was right there as well, and then kakashi even later stated when seeing neji's abilities that " I didn't know such a guy existed ". Obito and Madara are from completely different generations, so I see no reason why they should be teamed up. Naruto or Sasuke >>> Madara or Hashirama from the past. Its as simple as that. It took Madara more than 100 years to become Juubi Jinchuuriki, Naruto and Sasuke are only 16.
