Yeah, this jutsu can be used for all sorts of things, keep that in mind and don't focus only on 1 usage.

Genjutsu: Kahen Tonsou (Illusion Technique: Flower Petal Escape)

Rank: D
Type:Supplementary
Range:Short
Chakra Cost:10
Damage Points:N/A
Description: The user vanishes in a whirlwind of sakura petals.

Read the description. What's the medium for this genjutsu?

Good old fashioned hand seals!

Not this time. This time is visual contact with your body that serves as the medium for the genjutsu.

Ok, so, once that happens, you disappear to your opponent's eyes, enveloped in cherry blossom petals.
But you must remember that it is an illusion, so you can't use this genjutsu to evade , for example, a fireball.

Either way, once your opponent stops seeing you, you can move as you wish. Even go to him/her and slice their throat out

Pretty as a flower. If I have clones out can I make the genjutsu make us all appear to turn into petals?

It's not specified, but I wouldn't count on it.

So this technique can be used defensively right? Like if a jutsu is incoming you can cast this gen jutsu on the opponent and then side step their incoming attack?

It's considered Supplementary, I guess. It doesn't actually defend from the technique, like I said. If you can side-step the technique, than yes, it covers your movement. But if you can't side-step it, simply casting this jutsu won't do you any good.

Yes I meant within reason. Normally you can't just jump out of the way of an attack but if you use this first, I imagine it'd be a legitimate move.

Yeah.

Genjutsu: Kasumi (Illusion Technique: Servant)

Rank: D
Type:Supplementary
Range:Short
Chakra Cost:10
Damage Points:20
Description: An illusionary servant that is really a paper bomb that once in range of the opponent will explode.

This is again cast by handseals. Something small, like 2 or 3. This will change a paper bomb (or any other small object, if you want to be more creative) into a clone of yourself, or, again if you want to be more creative, into another person, animal or even some humanoid thingy (remember that the less you change, the less your opponent will notice he/she is on a genjutsu. If suddenly a huge ogre appears when I'm fighting a genin, it won't stick, obviously). But if you turn into a small butterfly, I'll be less tempted to attack it. This will mask the obvious threat of an exploding tag, and allow you to deploy it more easily.

This is cool when you perform the hand seals you can continue movements to pretend that you are performing a more recognizable technique. Such as taking a huge breath to make it seem as if you want to perform a fire attack or another that vomes from the mouth.

Yes indeed! Likewise, you could block your opponent's view and preform the handseals hidden, making something that could approach your opponent without him noticing, like a rock or a lizard etc

Lol, indeed ;)

Genjutsu: Kasumi Juusha (Illusion Technique: Mist Servant)

Rank: D
Type:Supplementary
Range:Short
Chakra Cost:10
Damage Points:N/A
Description:A Genjutsu technique that creates false attackers to delay and confuse the enemy. Though these servants are not real,
the actual ninja is able to remain hidden and throw kunai and shuriken matching the movements of the servants. This makes it appear
the false servants are capable of attacking. When the enemy attempts to attack the servant, they will merely disrupt the servants illusion body but not destroy it.

Now you create multiple copies of yourself, and use them as a distraction.

I love many Mellys lol.

*I pick a random patron of the spa who has just had a drink delivered to him and do a couple hand seals to trap them under the genjutsu. I create 4 clones of myself and they go over and start chatting him up. He thinks he's having a great time but everyone else sees him talking and laughing loudly to himself. As he's distracted a make a water whip and whip him in the booty. Then I steal his drink and bring it to you!*

How about a Bahama Mama Sensei?

Very well! Don't mind if I do *takes a zip*

Anywho, moving on:

Magen: Narakumi (Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing)

Rank: D
Type:Supplementary
Range:Short
Chakra Cost:10
Damage Points:N/A
Description: Causes the enemy to see a whirlwind of leaves and a spinning world that puts the enemy to sleep for one turn.

This requires handseals, and again, doesn't require that you opponent sees you. Basically your opponent will start to see the whole world spinning around (which is great because your opponent looses balance, especially if he is running, or preforming some complex taijutsu sequence), and it is followed by a shower of leafs, which blocks his view. Finally, your enemy falls asleep.

Whats the catch to this one? It seems too good to be true and D ranked. Does the sleeping process take long?

Nah. Given the amount of changes it makes, it's easily noticeable and given it's rank it's easily blockable. In fact, it serves more as a distraction or a way to hinder your opponent than actually defeat him/her.

Genjutsu: Kori Shinchuu (Illusion Technique: Sly Mind Affect)

Rank: C
Type:Supplementary
Range:Short
Chakra Cost:15
Damage Points:N/A
Description: Traps the opponent in a illusion were they wonder lost and in a circle for hours.

This manipulates your opponent's sense of direction and the surroundings, so that your opponent ends up making decisions and going through paths that make him wander in circles for hours. This is a really discrete genjutsu, meaning that it takes a long time for your opponents to realize that they're in trouble. Do you know a way to use this jutsu in battle?

I would think this is very good in heavily crowded battle terrains such as woods or mountains. It would give the opponent more of a sense of reality as if you're hiding and they have to find you.

That's one great usage.

Mist Technique is one of the situations where this technique is quite useful. When your opponent preforms the technique, he will keep some mental annotations about your location and the surroundings. If you use this technique on him, you can change that perception he has, and get him lost within his own technique. This would make it so that your opponent can navigate through the mist as much as he wants, while the fact remains that he will only go where you let him go. Preforming this technique will not only make your opponent miss any localized attack towards you (Something like fireballs or earth spikes), but it will also mean that you can control the area where your opponent is, because you will make him move only where you want him to move, like going around in circles within a small area, where you can aim your jutsus to.

Hidden Mist is one, another would be when your opponent goes underground. Normally he would try to strike you from beneath, or go behind you, or retreat to wherever you want, but with this technique, you can trap your opponent underground, and prevent him from doing whatever he wants. Likewise, he won't be able to aim any localized attack at you, for he will have a missed perception of where you are.

So it is important for you to realize that, within this jutsu, you can control where your opponent goes and where your opponent sends his jutsus, all by choosing the right word play ;)
