The village was way more powerful, the coup d'etat would've failed miserably and probably children, poor olds, women and some men might of survived. You're sick, Itachi is a fail attempt of a Machiavelli type character.

Chill out people it's just a story. The only part that confuses me is that Itachi could have at least spared the kids and taken them under his wing or something, instead of going "hate me so you can kill me" on Sasuke. Look how that turned out. But again, this is a story. A story needs drama 
people who agreed on itachis actions simply dont understand what they are saying and discussion with them is pointless

The strongest clan in the village would at least kill off a few hundreds of people, But thats not the worst part, The other villages WOULD attack...because of the instability in konoha....

They never would have suspected Itachi, their prized gem and pride of the clan, to kill them. Itachi killed them quickly, quietly, and swiftly.
Had the entire clan gotten together and prepared for their assault on the village it would have been mayhem.
They'd weaken the village from the inside out just like the Sand shinobi did. How? A surprise attack.
If the Sand could cause so much destruction, then I think a clan comprised of natural geniuses could too.
After Konoha got weakened, the other villages would see that as the perfect opportunity to invade. The other villages would all want this boost in territorial power. At the same time they can't let any of the other villages succeed in overtaking Konoha because that would make them stronger than the rest. They'd all jump in and a war would begin.

And jesus christ people..... why do you think there was to be no survivors? Look what happened to sasuke....Now think what would happen if a entire clan eventually grew up from those kids, who would want revenge, yes...a bunch of sasukes

you think lets say a group of 100 uchiha can handle the entire village every clan every ninja and itachi and shisui?
keep in mind shisui would still be alive, if this was the way it was going to go down
there wouldn't be a surprise attack because itachi is the mole, they'd wipe them out before they get a chance
it'd be an over night or maybe two night rebellion, and the next day it would be like nothing ever happened maybe like 50 dead
and if shisui got his hands on fugaku he'd just KA him and make him retreat
