Coming from
here
Baiken had FINALLY arrived at her destination... Now, she put her clothes back on and would take a rest by a nearby boulder close to the temple in which she was trying to find. Likely laid to waste by Phetra...
After taking her much needed break and rest, Baiken suddenly awoke, distraught and very aware. Something had pinged her sixth sense-like conscious on a level unimaginable to most... Who was she kidding... No one could imagine it. No one had the senses she did... She woke up from what felt like resting for days but in reality was only several hours. The scenary had not change, it was still nighttime, as if Baiken had just arrived. However it was unclear to her what time it actually was. She got herself up and relit her pipe to take a couple puffs as well as took a deep swig of her saki.
She surveyed the area. It was quite dull and uneventful. Baiken had no complaints. She was quite tired of the constant cutting down of her foes. Besides... That was not why she was here...
She traveled on forth to a nearby pillar. Nearby meaning at least a half a mile away... She gently laid her hand on it., rubbing it as if there was some connection of some sort she was gaining through this "totem".
"
We are close..." she said to herself. She continued forth, but something didn't feel right... As she travelled on, the air pressure seemed to get more dense and heavier, as well as the general vibe of the place becoming more intense. Coming here was supposed to be the exact opposite, so Baiken was not quite sure of what was going on but she continued on forth anyway as she didn't come this far to turn back... The path towards the temple was dimly lit and foggy. Again, opposite of how Baiken envisioned. The deeper she got, the foggier it got and eventually she started to black out and give in to visions in her head while basically having her body autopilot towards her destination.
She saw visions of a green or goldish-skinned old man... Very old... She had seen him before in the past, but not sure from where... He was wielding some sort of flame in the palm of his hand while atop a giant turtle... Her visions were happening so slow in her head but her body was traveling ever so quickly through the fog towards the temple. As if her body itself knew exactly where to go as Baiken was not even technically conscious. She kept uttering and repeating short sentences as she traversed what had become more of a nightmarish land the further she got.
"
Humanity..." "
The flame..." "
Save them..." "
Millions of them..." she uttered as she finally came to a halt and came to. There were two pillars. One closer to Baiken than the other with the further one having the same flame the old man was holding in her visions. As she regained her sight in exchange for her visions, she uttered the name "
Phetra". She did not question herself about who this was or how she uttered the name of someone, or something, she had never seen or met. Even though she had no answers, deep down inside, it was like she had indeed found them... But... What was it that she really found...
Her... "
Humanity..." Baiken whispered to herself and she leaped atop the first flameless pillar to stare into the unique flames not but a few inches before her... However, this flame did not light up the area as flames should. Either something was wrong with the flames, or something wrong with Baiken being here... This area. It felt wicked to her. And although Baiken was no coward, she knew when to hold them and when to fold them. The sky got increasingly darker. Pitch-black as the clouds formed at the distance which would appear to be right above Baiken's head in the surrounding area.
In the back of Baiken's mind, something had shouted "
LEAVE!" and startled her enough to get her to slip off of the first pillar but catch onto the next one with the flame. Almost like an impromptu jump. She slowly but surely pulled herself up to it. Someone, or something, was in Baiken's head. And it was very clear she was not welcome here for some reason by someone. Was Baiken not welcome here given her violent past... Or did that past mold her into something threatening to whatever invaded her mind... She did not sense anything in the surrounding area, but Baiken felt the threat of something beyond her words. Very uncharacteristic of her... While trying to survey the surrounding area, Baiken tripped asthe result of a large crack in the pillar... She got up and dusted herself off... However she noticed... She fell on the fire... And it did not burn her...
"
What the?..." Baiken questioned herself. She slowly reached out to the flame but before she could touch it again to see what the deal was, the flame was somehow sucked inside of her and appeared to seal itself in her heart. The flame itself was attracted to Baiken... She aggressively patted herself down, desperately trying to put out what she thought would set her on fire. However it didn't take her too long to realize that she was not on fire at all... And something inside Baiken had changed... Emotionally and spiritually. She no longer felt the burden of her past woes but more of a duty to prevent it from happening to others. She no longer felt hatred and self-loathing, but love and self-care... Now granted, this seemingly did not change Baiken's stank attitude as a fly flew past her nose and she tried swatting it away while uttering the word "Baka..."... She didn't lose becoming the badass warrior she had become, but rather gained something otherworldly, or perhaps too worldly to explain or describe... At this time, what appeared to be wormholes in the sky started to open. On the other side seemed to be the cosmos, or something similar. What Baiken noticed as eyes, pitch-red, blinking in the portals. Multiple of these eyes in all of the portals Baiken could lay her eyes on. Earlier, she could not sense the presence of anything at all. Living or spiritual... Now, her senses were overwhelmed. This was not a good spot to be in... "
Fold em..." she said to herself and ran back the way she came with the utmost urgency. Eventually, she got back to the shore unharmed and it seemed as if she was not followed. She stopped next to the same boulder she fell asleep on.
She started to have visions of the old hermit man again... He did not speak but held up a finger, harnessing the same flames that had sealed themselves inside Baiken's heart. He pointed towards his own heart in which the flames from his finger seemed to have gone inside him. The same way the flames on the pillar went into Baiken. She had no idea what the visions were telling her, but she was trying her best to interpret them.
Not wanting to waste anymore time as she was afraid those beings she saw would catch up to her, Baiken left the area with urgency and tried to sense the nearest presence she felt was non-threatening for help or comfort as what she went through was not necessarily the most calm thing someone could experience... She wrapped her hands with tape from her ninja pouch, shakily and lit her pipe in the same fashion: shakily. She continued wherever her heart took her without even knowing her heart was guiding her...
