The second Faction, The Order, has revealed their Objectives for the arc. Details here. For all the muscle-heads who just want to punch, rip, and maim inhuman enemies... here's your shot, the Order's all about militaristic behavior and ruthlessness when it comes to Divinity and anything derived from it.

Hey so I don’t exactly know the best place to post this, but I wanted to show my concerns,

Before I say anything, I want to say that this is not an attack on anyone, especially not on the work that has already been done. I have seen Dan putting in a lot of visible effort with customs, checks, and maintenance with his faction in the NW, and I genuinely appreciate it. I also very much appreciate LoK’s effort with the list of improvements, changes and updates shown to the RP.

That said, I’d be lying if I said I’m not struggling with motivation right now. We have had about 2-3 months since the RP was sort of beginning its revival, the build up of the NW and choosing of the sensei who were supposed to run it, and what we have landed on is a flaskback arc that builds directly on material that, to be honest, i think quite a few or alot of people weren’t very engaged with in the first place, including myself. Personally, I was hoping the revival might feel more like a reset, or at least a strong pivot or change to everything. Something that would energize people more, and move into new territory or old. The world is far too large for the player base, it could have been more centralized, a two faction world, two villages, vying for power or whatever.

I understand the narrative reasoning and perspective. But because it is a flasback, in essence there is not much we can do to alter or change history, and it feels like we are reliving events whose outcomes are already decided, instead of shaping the story and future of the setting. That makes it harder, at least for me, to feel agency or feel like i want to invest in the story, it would only be for whatever “rewards” were possible, and thats not why i RP, i want to create a story that is fun to write and read.

On top of that, I also worry about the staff. I see alot of visible work from Dan, especially customs but to be honest I dont see what the division or responsibilities looks like for staff. Like I know there exist real life, I cant say what people are going through, but for example, it does not feel reasonable in a revival where we agree on an example of custom cycles of 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, and customs are already not checked from previous cycles in several of the custom threads (regardless of whose responsibility they are). I know I use customs as an example, but I think it is because it is difficult as an outsider to really see what is happening or going on behind the scenes and who has what responsibilities or what efforts are made, so maybe that is just my perception, but from this view, it feels or looks like alot is resting on one person (Dan) who seemed to have been checking most of all the customs these days. I know it has historically led to burn out and for people quitting or even for the game to end.

Just for context, since the revival i have tried to participate in the RP as much as possible making like 10-20 missions, i started my Jinchuriki journey, i participated in the delegate story of the golden amputation, and genuinely want it to succeed and enjoy it. All of this is why I am writing this, because i want to see it continue and not drift into another ending.

Just to summarize my concerns are:
  • Is there a large roadmap beyond flashbacks?
  • Is there room to pivot to an entirely different story if players dont engage with it? ( I honestly feel less interested in this than my own story).
  • How is staff responsibilities currently divided and how does it prevent burnout? And also what about staff activity?
  • Is there openness to more player driven direction instead of NPC driven arcs? Which feels like less agency for the player.
Just a little thing, I am not trying to demand change or anything, I just want a discussion and understanding. I think for me id love to feel like I am building something new, something better than before, not just revisiting something that didn’t land the first time around.

If Im the only one who has this view, fair enough, but if others share it, maybe its worth talking about.

I agree with you on pretty much everything. I vaguely voiced the same opinion and it got shut down. Zaph does his share too in my eyes but it feels like there was that spark that people were ready for as far as the RP and then it kind of turned around and did the exact same things that drove people away. I'm totally unmotivated. I am sure this will somehow hurt someone's feelings even though it is my own personal view on it. But there is no reason for me to RP at the moment.

Personally.

Been busy these past couple days.

To start, the current flashback arc is intended to get players active again or at least reacquainted with NW interactions (speaking to NPC's; learning info, getting missions, etc.) while more considerable work is done on the proper continuation arc which will be influenced by the actions taken in this flashback. It is by no means mandatory, but it is encouraged for reasons I just mentioned. I get that you dislike this method, which is essentially a story gap-closer, so I have a question for you: What would make this current flashback arc 'better' or more enjoyable? Or would you rather the whole thing went away and we just started with a new arc and narrative straight out the gate?

I can't speak for any other Sensei apart from myself but my corner of responsibilities look alright. Kumi Exchange is UTD and its similar for Missions with like 3 recent ones unchecked. Customs are a whole other beast, and the frustration is warranted. L is back and actively checking customs, though, so the backlog will be cleared up soon and the new cycle should run quicker now as well.

You don't need training in the base elements. Just get started on ranking up and unlocking stronger ranks of your chosen element and then later get all the others through Jounin rank.

Noticed only a few people have interacted with the new arc. I don't like the look of it, therefore I'm introducing some changes that would (hopefully) get more people to participate. The first change would be making the Faction Objectives into Missions, eligible for kumi, faction relics, and mastery progress. The other change would be to release Rifts which include a few newly designed ones that are based on the survey I held in here a month or two back.

I am also open to suggestions of all kinds. If something is bugging you about the current flow of things, it's your right to speak up. It's only way we can get meaningful change. :hs:

Personally, I'm having a little difficulty parsing the whole storyline. Just from looking at it, it's interesting enough, the missions presented so far come off as some basic tower defense style of game. The ability to choose sides with the Freehold or fighting hordes of CoT with the Amputation are fine additions to the game. This is my understanding of the game so far.

However, I do find the game presented in its state to be too ambitious, given the number of players currently participating or wanting to partake in it. For example, killing 3,000 CoT to progress the Amputation story seems a little out there given that an S-Rank mission would equate to 20 of them. Assuming that people actively partake in these S-Rank missions, that's still 150 missions that need to be completed for the Amputation to progress its storyline. It seems very unattainable to me, given the purpose of this NW arc is to become reacquainted with the mechanics of the game.
