People always like to hype the likes of Hashirama, Hiruzen, Minato, Itachi or others, but always forget Jiraya's place in this manga. When we talk about his hype, some people always try to give excuses, but if we look closely, Jiraya was always portrayed as someone on Itachi's level if not stronger, but it seems that people don't read the manga well and start to underrate this guy. Just to make you remember Jiraya's place in this manga, i will show you some sentences coming from the people who faced him:
Kisame, someone considered here as a powerful Akatsuki member definite Jiraya as someone out of his league. Even Itachi says that if they faced off, they might end up killing each other, at the very least, they will hurt each other badly and that back up won't make a difference
People gave the excuse that Itachi was lying. Why? Especially when Kisame is his partner since a long time, so he knows
Another thing that you should take into consideration is that Kishi purposely made these two(Jiraya and Itachi) die at the same time. Furthermore, he again purposely gave them the higher stats in the databook. People may say that stats doesn't count, but i don't believe Kishi made all that for nothing. I think he created that to show us a sort of equlity in their respective battle power. He even created a stupid excuse not to make Jiraya a Edo in Kabuto's army
Another praise concerning Jiraya is during his fight against Pain(Akatsuki leader, Rinnengan possessor). He said that if Jiraya knew his secret, he would have never won
Again people create excuses by saying that Pain was not full power or something and that he was joking. Just to make you remember, during the fight against 6Paths of Pain, Jiraya was at a disadvantage because:
- He was in enemys territory, so knowing nothing about the location when Pain knew everything
- He was fighting an unknown enemy he never faced before holding the ultimate dojutsu
- His enemy on the contrary
Eventhen, Jiraya defeated the 3Pains he was fighting before
In order to reduce his power, Kishi purposely made Pain crush his hand when he let his guard down:
Eventhen, he still fought the 6Paths of Pain together with this huge handicap
And managed to defeat and capture one of them in his toad barrier:
So the fact Pain says that Jiraya could have defeated him if he knew his secret isn't that far-fetched
Kakashi even wonders how Jiraya was able to handle 6Paths of Pain when he is already struggling against 2:
Even Minato hyped his master by saying that he is a example that we should all follow and that he can't think of a finer shinobi than him
Tsunade says that Hiruzen(God of Shinobi) always wanted him to be his successor, to be hokage, unfortunately Jiraya wasn't interested at all
Jiraya hypes himself here by wondering if Suna even with all those preparations(preparing Anbus or others) could forcibly stop him:
I'm sure i'm even forgetting some other hype, but this is all to show you how i believe Jiraya is probably one of the most underrated character here when the manga implies that he deserves to be considered as one of the strongest in this manga
By feats, he one shoted a Akatsuki member like Konan effortlessly
By feats he almost captured both Itachi and Kisame only failing because Itachi was pushed to use Amaterasu to escape
