dude.. heres why.. if everything went according to itachi's original plan.. that is sasuke killing him and returning back to the leaf village.. and sasuke having no idea about the truth of itachi.. but just incase.. saskuke found out itachi's truth.. itachi took measures to prevent him from falling in the hands of madara.. such as the amaterasu he planted in sasuke's eye.. and the gift he gave to naruto..
so itachi told naruto that he didnt have to use it.. because incase itachi's original plan had been successful about sasuke not finding out the truth.. and sasuke returning to the village.. there would be no reason for naruto to use it.. (it applies to both theory 1 and the rinnegan theory)
What makes you think that was Itachi's original plan? Itachi certainly wasn't that naive.
Let us consolidate what we know of Itachi shall we?
- Itachi was a genius.
- He avoided killing anyone from the leaf, and made it seem coincidental.
- He knowingly sacrificed himself to awaken Sasuke's MS.
- He tested Naruto to be sure Naruto wouldn't kill Sasuke just because it would be the easiest path (ie Sasuke joins Akatsuki).
- He implanted Ameratsu into Sasuke's Sharingan just to attack Tobi should tobi reveal his sharingan to Sasuke.
- In all the flashbacks of the Uchiha Massacre we never see Itachi striking anyone down, just standing around in the aftermath. Unless you count the genjutsu used on Sasuke later.
- Showed up in Konoha just after the 3rd's death to ensure the leaders knew he was still around and that Sasuke wasn't to be exploited.
- He believed in the Senju way of peace.
- Believed that Sasuke could and very likely would become addicted to vengeance, turning on konoha after his death, and eventually the entire ninja world.
Now if we can agree that Tobi never speaks the whole truth, instead spins and contorts events to serve his own intrests and ego.
We can assume that the sharingan doesn't give a way to give the Rinnegan to any Uzimaki, otherwise the entire clan would have been allied with the Uchiha, not the Senju, and they'd all have Rinnegan powers.
and obviously a simple message wouldn't warrant the ominous warning that he would hope naruto never needed to use it.

Itachi's intention was for the CROW of his power to be for Sasuke. If Itachi planned further and made it so it could be of use to Naruto against others is yet to be seen but highly doubtful.
There is no way that it was for Naruto to gain the Rinnegan.

Did anyone think that it might be a way for Naruto to seal Itachi's own eyes that Sasuke has therefore rendering the EMS an MS?
See my earlier post.... I've been stating that Itachi's "gift" was a way to seal the Sharingan, in part or full, for quite some time.
this is a very informative forum. itachi giving naruto a type of seal to reappear during naruto & sasuke's battle... i highly doubt this, i think its more a jutsu.
