in Naruto there are loads of different factors to consider then just strength and power in a fight.
saying this i do think minato would beat itachi.
you guys are missing the point...if this came from the writer of naruto then what he probably means by Minato being "stronger" is that he can in-fact defeat Itachi, since Kishi created these characters the obviously he is the god of the narutoverse

i always thought itachi was weaker than minato its obvious the guy is super fast, comes up with plans in a sec and is the most tactical ninja ever which he proved in his match against madara and the guy took the kyubi away from madara in seconds and then even took on the kyubi and sealed it pretty fast, kishi already portrayed the guy as almost an unbeatable character i never thought Itachi woud beat him even though he himself is amazing, minato always seemed to be a ninja above others probably naruto, sasuke(due to ems) and madara can beat him right now IMO.

u bring up good points but i also feel that it is a little off that minato can beat hashirama the guy who beat madara with ems and kyubi but u have to realize that minato himself is strong also he was one of the greatest shinobi and its shown in the flashback however i would like to see more to believe it and you gotta understand that kishi's words are pretty much final unless in some case he does contradict himself but it does happen once in a while.
