I personally am not fond of the idea, now don't get me wrong the actor in question is deffenetly brilliant, but why does he have to be james bond?

why can't he be lets say the new replacement for 003 or any other number? it would be much more interesting if he was a different agent in the same universe, than just another james bond.

(I feel the same way about daniel craig. he should have been a different agent in the same universe)

Nah, it would obviously be done to cater to black people. Leave political correctness out of entertainment.

No, it's because he's a good actor that would be a good fit for the role. Race only came into play when far right wingers got a hold of this information.

It's not like the black community of the world got together and said we want to see Idris Elba as the next James Bond and it will be racist if he's not Lol.

While Idris Elba is a talent (Loved him in No Good Deed) I can't see him as Bond.

However as Bond is supposed to be a white man then just keep it that way.

It would be like if they remade the Shaft series and had a white actor play the title character a role that was made famous by Richard Roundtree a black actor.

Wouldn't be long before Al Sharpton started a tirade about it.

It's not really an issue of whether or not racebending is okay, but simply representation in the media. Making Bond black would make sense because it'd serve the purpose of increasing representation of black people in iconic, main roles. What purpose would making Shaft white serve? It wouldn't be the same thing, so that comparison is invalid.

I don't think you understand how Iconic Shaft is.

It saved MGM, helped launch Black Hollywood, won several Academy awards which was quite rare for black actors and movies in the early 70's.

So my comparison is quite valid, Rush's not so much.

*Points naysayers to the white Jesuses, Egyptians and Moses*

Jesus and Moses are middleeastern , so they are white . Not sure about egypt , but some of them were white . For example Cleopatra

I would prefer a white James Bond tbh . Someone who is more like Sean Connery since he is my favorite .

Irrelevant to my post. I never said Shaft wasn't iconic, nor implied it. I said the purpose is to increase representation of black people in iconic, main roles. As in, take the amount of representation of black people in iconic, main roles that have been done so far, and add onto it. I never said that they didn't exist.

The comparison isn't very valid. While both are indeed cases of racebending, they also both beg a couple questions: Why? What would be the point? Making James Bond black serves a point, which I have said above and made more clear so that you don't misunderstand it again. Making Shaft white would serve no point and accomplish nothing, so it's not comparable to making Bond black.

Take the your logic about a black Bond and apply it to Shaft.

That's the point, Shaft was a movie series meant to target black audiences.

Remaking Shaft with a white man is basically the same thing you're saying with a black Bond.

But I must end this because Idris isn't be cast as Bond to expand the list of Iconic black roles but instead he's being cast simply because he's the best fit for the role.

Try reading my post before you reply, k buddy? You know, like actually reading it, since what I said and what you're replying to are clearly two different things.

You know, you have a habit of trying to change your angle when your posts contradicts themselves.

Just admit it, you've never the glorious movie that is Shaft.

I never contradicted myself or changed my angle. For one, I never said it was to increase iconic black roles, but increase representation of black people in iconic, main roles. There's a difference, with the most prominent being that I said the latter and you addressed the former.

Secondly, you started by saying the two cases are comparable. I explained why they weren't and rather than responding accordingly, you just basically repeated ¨No they're comparable.¨ I explained why it wasn't the same thing, and you responded with ¨They're the same thing¨ without saying why, or refuting my reason for why they aren't, making your reply kind of pointless.

Watch this.

You tend to single out selected parts of posts and not actually read all of it and then apply your logic which would work if your questions hadn't already been answered.

Face it, your entire basis is off an assumption of what it won't do which completely missed the entire point of my original post after I derailed yours. Re-read the OP and the re-read my first post.

Thanks, pumpkin.

Not really. I responded to the part about Shaft because that part made no sense and wasn't a viable comparison to what the topic of the thread was about, which was whether or not a black man should play Bond. Your logic is that it'd be the same as making Shaft white, and I replied and explained why it wouldn't be. I didn't change my argument once or contradict myself, you simply either misunderstood me or deliberately rephrased what I said for the sake of being able to supply an argument. I never said Shaft wasn't iconic or that black people haven't played iconic roles before, but there you were with an entire reply to me about how iconic Shaft was for some reason. I said Bond being black would be good for increasing the representation of black people in main and iconic roles, you replied as though I said it'd increase the amount of iconic black characters. You certainly did try to derail my post by twisting my words around and addressing arguments I never expressed; then when I pointed it out, you tried to do so yet again, and it didn't work again. Quite frankly, it's a rather weak debating tactic but I suppose admitting to it is commendable in some form.

You see Riker, you are again missing the point. You've missed the basis of the comparison between Shaft and Bond. You missed the point of my posts by taking what I said and tweaking it. You also missed the point where you think the reason Idris is getting the role and by doing so you contradict yourself. Furthermore you keep going back the "Representation and the amount of iconic black characters" Something you brought in that might have served a point if we were talking about a new film series entirely.

The fact of the matter is this, a black Bond makes no more sense than a white Shaft or an Asian Poncharelo.

The last one is from CHiPs in case you're wondering.

Well, he is a Creationist after all.

Seven days.
