[Discussion] How do you feel about a black James Bond?

Apparently if Daniel Craig isn't interested in playing Bond after this upcoming movie, they are considering casting Idris Elba:

He's most famously known for his role in The Wire. He has been in recent movies such as Pacific Rim, Thor(Both), and No Good Deed.

I personally think it would be a great fit. He has that bond-esque demeanor(Maybe not in that picture but in general). Now... Some people such as Rush Limbaugh(Lol) think a black man should not be able to play James Bond because the fictitious character is a white man from Scotland. Obviously Idris Elba is a black man from Britain.

While I understand the point(Just a little), "The character itself is white and from Scotland, how could a black man play it...", at that same time the character is fictitious. Who he is played as shouldn't necessarily matter as long as the actor can pull off the Bond vibe that we all know so well. I wouldn't care if the man was Japanese, Indian, or Brazilian. As long as he could pull it off.

Rush's argument towards this is what if Kelsey Grammar wanted to play Nelson Mandela. Lol.The difference is Mandela is a real person. Anyway I've typed enough, what do you guys think about a black James Bond and do you think Idris Elba would be a good fit?

I really don't care, James bonds is the most overrated franchise. It was cool back when film was just starting.

Even a black man couldn't save this series.

The popular theory goes that James Bond 007 is a codename for the most-prestigious spy of the M16, and that would make sense given how several different people (actors) have acquired the codename over the years. It's not unreasonable to say that eventually you would get a Black spy in the M16 who would be prestigious enough to earn the 007 codename.

I'm not too sure but I don't think James Bond's background is even important to the series so I don't see why not. I was never a fan of the series to care enough anyways, though.

He seems like he could play it just fine.

I love Elba he's freaking rocks Luther but I don't think he should play Bond for 50 years it been played by a white Guy so don't think they should change Races entry of other good white British/Scottish/Irish actors out there like Damien Lewis, Sam Worthington, Andrew Lincoln, Jon Hamm, peoe like this would do great oh and Tom Hardy

I personally really liked the choice. Idris hás the combination of "class + ability" that makes a good Bond.
Face is not really important, seeing as we had a blond, a scottish, a brunnette Bond and they all represented the character well...
