How can Kakashi beat Guy if he opens the 7th gate ?????

Ive always wondered how Kakashi always was said to either beat gai or match him in prowess(before the 8th gate was released of course).

The problem I have with Kakashi is although he's known to be fast, he has always been tagged in some form or another by opponents slower than even base Gai. He got kicked into the water by zabuza, stabbed in the chest by a deva path pain, and kicked into a tree by kakuzu while he was charging in for a Rakiri blitZ. So I've always wondered how Kakashi could possibly be a match for gai if gai went 6 or 7 gates.... I'm assuming kamui would help him a ton but even before he got kamui, he was said to be Gai's ultimate rival so that means that he was able to match Gai just fine before kamui. It makes no sense... What do you guys think ? I feel like gai in 7th gate would blitz him before Kakashi could even do anything ...

My guess is that Guy didn't go all out on Kakashi, and by "out" I mean exactly 7th gate, because 8th is technically a suicide technique, so let's not count that. Or maybe Kishi didn't plot this moment insightly enough.

Maybe, but i'm confident Gai needs 7th gate to beat Kakashi since Kakashi is not just kamui. He can find a way around with clones to restrain Gai and then warp him away. But i'm not talking about Kakashi vs Gai since gai obviosuly wins with 7th gate, i'm talking about overall power.

According to this logic Sakura speed = KCM Naruto because she was shown fighting side by side with him.

No, Kakashi can't beat Gai in a head on fight where the 7G is unrestricted. Not a chance in hell. Even warping and running away is useless since Gai is fast enough to interrupt him mid warp as long as they remain in close-mid range.
