I've actually been saying this for a while. If Kishi had in mind to introduce the concept of the Ootsutsuki, and have only those of the lineage be relevant (or Kakashi getting a powerup from the lineage), then he really should have chosen Hinata has the female lead, as, inevitably, Sakura ended up being there for the sake of being there. Nothing shows that more than the team 7 moment with Kaguya. If he made Hinata a main, he could have had a female lead that could keep up with the others.(assuming proper development was used) Hinata's backstory was one that could blend in with Naruto and Sasuke's as well. Real shame. Sakura would be fine as a side character as most of her problems is that we expect much from her since she's a main, while Hinata has the potential of a main, but due to being a side character, she doesn't get as much screen time, so ends up being virtually only the inevitable girlfriend of Naruto and not much else.(after chunin exams) Both characters would be immensely better in each other's roles.
