yes i agree he is awesome he would put up an extremely good fight -- epic --(except vs madara, minato, naruto and sasuke because lets face it theyre pretty much sick and itachi would end it fast too) but he would lose to most

Knowing this Onokis would use that for his own weaponary too.

i wish i would have came to this thread sooner it looks really good.
in a desert, while a storm, with 1 tail, Gaara is nearly unstoppable.
people who would have a chance is Itachi, Kisame, Naruto (idk why i just see it), Pain, Jiraiya, Hashirama, Onoiki. just to name a few.
all these people, like Gaara, have the ability to change the environment or landscape in which they fight in. they all have shown to have the power to do so.
so it could go from fighting in a desert, to fighting around black flames (Itachi), an ocean (Kisame), forest (Hashirama) or change it to the insides of a toad (Jiraiya). the others have shown they can destroy the environment they fight in, tailed beast bomb (Naruto), chibaku tensi (Pain), and dust element (Onoiki)..
so these guys could change the environment to their benefit or destroy it and make Gaara lose his benifit.
but Gaara is still a strong SOB.
it would still be a tough fight agaisnt any of them.
Itachi has his MS techniques. Gaara coul easily deflect Amaterasu though and even dodge attacks from Sasunoo by flying. Itachis shield can only block from one direction so it would be simple for Gaara to direct an attack behind him. Tsukiyomi is the biggest isse though. without a defense to it Gaara is a goner. unless the 1 tail cancelled it for him.
Kisame would be a hard match. it would be massive sand vs massive water. lol they would turn the background into a beach after the fight was done. Kisame could engulf him in water but than again Gaara might answer with filling the water bubble with sand..? or maybe create a hole in the floor and the water would be drained like somebody flushed the toilet? lol. idk Kisame has the big advantage of absorbing chakra. it could go wither way.
Naruto beat Gaara as kids and beat him in the 3rd Shippuden Movie. with his new power Kyuubi Mode Naruto would be lightning quick and get through Gaaras defenses. as seen dring the chunnin exams. Lee and Sasuke both showed Gaaras biggest weakness is speed. how well Gaaras sand can hold up agaisnt Rasenshuriken or Tail Beast Bomb Rasengan.? that i a good question
Hashirama in theory would give a good match. we havent seen much of the 1st, only when Oro edo tensi him but that still wasnt much. the 1st was considered the strongest shinobi in his time. able to use earth, water and combine them for wood, he could either use the dessert to his advantages (earth), destroy it with water or wood and make a forest. but its all theortical since we havent seen much of 1st fights.
6 Paths of Pain is powerful. there are endless possibilities that could happen if he fought Gaara. biggest assets Pain has is the beast summons, chibaku tensi, the almighty push that destroyed the village, absorbing jutsus and chakra, and the dragon soul thingy.
now imagine Jiraiya fighting Gaara in a desert right? and all of a sudden Jiraiya surrounds the desert in the toad stomach. than Jiraya just disappear and leaves Gaara to just be digested in the giant toad lol.. nobody thought of that huh? Jiraiya has a better shot at beating Gaara than most thought.

I agree with Draegod even if in his passionate defense of garra's abilities i do believe he overstated garra's immense chakra. I also belive that the constant sand storm/sand shower would drain his chakra pretty fast should he have to face kisame or anyone else who has enough chakra to outlast him. but I may be underestimating how little chakra he would need in the dessert

please read the first post please.!. the reason why gaara lost was because he was fighting over the village and making sure know one get hurt. diedara was smart enuff to take advantage of his passion of the village. i said know civilians or village, just pure desert; that means just sand and more sand on top of that.
gaara has a huge amount of chakra or controling the sand is easy for him. either way he is powerful and can use it for long periods of time
whether thats true or not, it doesnt matter when you are 200 meters underground and have no oxygen and cannot move a finger.

ya i get what your saying but without the shikaku he looss alot of chakra and the sand jutsu takes alot of chakra so after awhile of close up combat ( which makes him use more chakra to make up him lack of taijutsu) that is my theory

i wondered, since he'd have shikaku would it even take any of his chakra since its not his will but the shikaku's (or sand itself) if thats the case he'd only need chakra to do special sand attacks like tsunami, coffin/burial, 3rd eye, sand clones, sand rain and wouldn't take much to use his personal sand since its alrdy rich with his chakra so he'd last for a looooooong time before he'd be breathing heavy unless he tries to control massive amounts of sand on his own will like defending againest deidara's bomb.

I have to keep bringing up the fight with kimimaro, gaara was rested and at full power, he even still had the shikaku, (I think that's a downside as I explained in my first post) but he came close to his limit, he could not even defend himself against kimimaro's final attack and he only survived because of kimimaro's illness. (check chapter 217 page 12 to 14) on that last page gaara actualy sais "we would have been completly beaten, would we?"
and now your going to say that it's because he was not in the dessert and that it would be totaly different, and you would have a point to some extent. it would make a big difference, and I did state this in my first post aswell, he would not have to waist chakra to create sand since it would be all around him, but that would not make for a monumental difference.
and I stay by my point, gaara without the shikaku seems more composed then with shikaku, and this gives him more focus and makes him a more difficult opponent to defeat. on top of that it lets gaara use the chakra he would normaly use to suppress the shikaku.
also: unlike naruto gaara does not go to the shikaku for chakra
his seal is most likly not set up to mix the chakra of the beast with that of his own. that way to preserve his personality (true this is speculation but with a serious thought behind it)
and I prove my point with the fight of gaara and sasuke at the kage meeting, there gaara effectivly blocks the raikage's kick and sasuke's amateratsu with his sand. we know how fast the raikage was in his raiton armor and amateratsu is a blindingly fast jutsu as it ignites where the user focusses. so gaara got a lot quicker with his sand defence. amaterasu has to be faster then lee's taijutsu at the chunin exam and lee had to work realy hard to get through it.
so this is what I'm saying so you don't missread me again:
in the dessert withouth the shikaku
*gaara one on one, you would have to be a realy powerfull shinobi to stand a chanse since gara is going to focus his attacts on that one opponent to concerve chakra. or you have to be realy good at genjutsu as I suspect that's gaara's weakness.
*gaara vs an army of normal shinobi, using one or 2 big jutsu to thin out the hurde and focuss the rest of his attacs to eliminate the survivers, but this is going to push his limits.
*gaara vs a group of powerfull shinobi (like now with those revived kage) he is going to be able to put up a good fight, but he need's backup to win and survive
with the shikaku he could let it go insain but that only works against a large groop of normal shinobi. I meen, even a young naruto beat the shikaku with the help of gamabunta (his summon)

I'm sorry but you don't seem to get what I'm saying either. I didn't say gaara is weak, certainly not in the dessert, but he does have his limits just like any other shinobi and you seem to forget about that while imagining him making big moves constantly with your constant sand storms and such.

first off, gaara lost to diedara because he was protecting the villiage...the OP specifically said no villiage or people just a 1 on 1 fight.
Diedara would not have beaten gaara if gaara wasnt also trying to protect his entire villiage with sand.
second, i doubt genjutsu will effect gaara at all when he is inside his sand sphere. Most genjutsu require some kind of eye contact, and gaara is using sand to see, not his own eyes.
third, I dont think sasuke or itachi could beat gaara in the desert like the OP was saying.
Even if a susanoo is put up, what would stop gaara from pulling the whole thing down under the desert and leaving it there.
Im sure if itachi was under a few hundred feet of sand with a huge amount of pressure on him, he wouldnt be able to move. He would be alive with his susanoo protecting him, but for how long?

true i like that observation but wasnt gaara in the desert when deidara captured him. he wasnt so invincible then cuz deidara had actually beaten gaara in his own territory

barbobot you need to watch that fight again. deidara did try to attack the village but the village also attacked deidara with a million arrows and what not. also deidara outsmarted gaara because the sand gaara used to shield himself he also used to tocrush deidara's arm. and thats when deidara infected gaaras *special* sand. so when gaara used that same sand to guard himself deidara's clay explosives penetrated gaaras sand shield knocking him out. deidara just out smarted gaara. and it was basically a one on one fight. deidara attacked the village and the village attacked him back with there fire power (arrows explosive tag arrows etc)
