ahhh, but there is a difference. Gaara was forced into being the jinchuuriki and was cursed as a child, many of his rampages were triggered by events happening to him, all the deaths could have been avoided if say his father didnt try to have him killed every week. He overcame that, showed true control over the tailed beast and became liked. Sasuke openly turned his back on the village, and even vowed to destroy it, something gaara never did. Even if the random citizens you never see decided he was cool, the konoha elite would know how he so frivilously wished to annihilate the village and would never allo0w it. My preferred theory is one i saw today, i see him using this battle as a means to gain control of the juubi. It is the next logical step for him to become truly on naruto's level again because the last time they really encountered each other, was when he popped into naruto's head and pimp slapped him from using kuramas chakra...that was about when naruto first started using it to a great extent. Now he has nearly full control, and quite honestly, his speed an power are enough in my eyes to wreck sasuke if he actually chose to...not knock him out to put sense in his head, but actually tried for a kill shot? he could do it in an instant at this point.
