Even though I was never a fan of Brazil, it wasn't exactly that Brazil was as terrible in the game as people make it seem. Anyone who wasn't aware of this, Brazil used the offensive type of total football - maybe because Neymar was gone, maybe because they were eager to score goals; who knows in reality. The tactic Germany used was tici taca, which was a perfect counter to their play style.
Germany was easily better squad, but if Brazil used a different tactic, Germany wouldn't had gotten so many goals as easily. You can also notice that in the later half, Germany scored only 2 goals and Brazil playing more coherently.
It's not always about the squad, no matter how good players you have, if the opposition can counter your tactic, they might have significantly better winning chances than your team. The rest depends in the execution of the tactic and how well you manage to fight it off.
I agree, while I believe Germans would have won nonetheless the margin would have been smaller.
Scolari never studied the German style, the base of countering tiki-taka lies in controlling the space, playing a very compact midfield structure and heavy defense makes it difficult for team employing tiki-taka to take shots on target and then counter attack.
In 2012 Champions League semi-final Chelsea played a very compact 4-5-1, against Barca and didn't allow them space to perform, Barca enjoyed the possession, but couldn't make chances, ergo lost in 1st leg 1-0, and tied second 2-2.
In Brazil vs Germany, defense was poor there was too much space for the German midfield, even wings to create chances and score.
They dearly missed their true defender Thiago Silva, who provided support for Luiz, which Dante couldn't and collapsed.
There was no coherence in the team. Scolari should have had a little defensive mind-set, and should have started Dani Alves.
Anyways like I said above Germany would have still won it because Brazilian attack was poor too and Germans were clinical, professional and played like a machine and in second half were conserving their energy and not risking an unnecessary injury.
1-0 for Netherlands, Silva again making a stupid challenge.
